Really lovely the precision in your explanation, thank you. No one ever thinks to repair a kettle anymore, it would get thrown away.

It would have good if you showed the tear down right from the very start before the components were detached from the kettle.

What causes my switch not to stay down ?

0:50 Good video. However I can't find a video that covers why a kettle switch wont stay down when you try to switch it on. If I hold it down for about 10 seconds it will usually stay down and on.
    Anyone have any ideas ?

Who would have thought the designers of an electric kettle switch would have designed such a precise and tiny mechanism for a critical function.
Was the part ever repaired , how, and is it working now?

Was jammed tight (repaired), don't know how long that part lasted after this 'repair'

I re secured the disc themostat on my kettle switch and it started switching off again. Then I loosened it and it stopped working, retightened and working again. Looks like loose disc thermostat was the fault, caused by wear and tear on the plastic pin.

Yes if the diameter of the plastic pin gets smaller due to the metal snap disc moving along it, that's detrimental fast ...

I hate those plastic levers connected to the thumb switch, they're so brittle and unlikely to last more than 3 years, designed to fail 🤬

My kettle is heating fine but th switch is not staying down on its own

Take it apart if you feel adventurous, see what's causing it inside

@@theoverengineer I did that and still don't know

@theoverengineer hey I have some good news I took it back apart and heat the little circle metal plate only to realize it's not moving so I removed it and the kettle switch is working again just that I have to click it off. But that's great better than having to put something on the switch for water to boil 😊 thanks for your video. If you know where I can purchase the plate let me know 🙏
