At 6:51 thats my grandfather and grandmother coming out of the store and my dad would've been 11 years old at the time...my Mom would've been 8 years old at the time...those were the times America was growing..still recovering from the Great Depression..family values were strong ..people cared about each other..and history was being made day by day..if I could go back in time...this is where I'd visit first..we all need to remember our history because it's fading every day with each passing of the "older" generation that created it. They were the gifted ones..never forget.

Cool, it's clear enough you could make a photo. That was a great time to be alive.

My mother was from Granite Falls. She would have been 8 years old in 1938. Thank you for posting these films! I really enjoyed watching them.

Strange to see the mill in operation. Wish the town was revitalized again. I love living here.

Times may have been hard but people where healthier and happy. I’d choose then over anyday now idc what stuff we have to make life easier, bc in turn it makes us worse off as humans

This is wonderful. I have a friend there that fixes coke machines. He purchased a huge brick warehouse with beautiful wood floors. It became available because the mills machinery was sold to China along with all the jobs.

My Grandma would have been about 10 years old then. She grew up in Dudley Shoals. Her daddy was a tobacco farmer. Love this footage.

Nice footage. Isn’t it great that someone had the motivation and guts to just go film these people?! Now these images live forever. 😁

Possible but I highly doubt it. Maybe the ones under 15 years old.
