    Tyler Ley was my professor at OSU for my undergraduate studies. It’s an understatement by saying he’s a concrete fanatic. I worked under him as an undergraduate researcher for two years and it was nonstop testing with him. A great and fortunate experience to have. He also has the most graduate and undergraduate students working for him at OSU. Partially due to the amount of people needed for making and testing concrete.

    Dazz was also using Sketchup (99% sure). It might throw some viewers off because while you were mentioning the 2D sketching software "from Apple" the video was showing 3D Sketchup. If you go on Dazz's channel you'll see some videos with that 2D app Matt mentioned as well. Cool stuff! Don't underestimate what you can do with Sketchup. I use Rhino in a much similar fashion, but to be honest, Sketchup is probably better for 9 out of 10 engineers given their other priorities and Sketchup's shorter learning curve.
    Gotta say thanks for putting together this video! I've been dying to find a good concrete specific channel. Sadly, Canadians don't handle concrete very well. I'm trying to figure out if it is a code issue, an education issue, or what (I think both). I've started studying the U.S. codes and after a few weeks could conclude that they are far better: They tend to be more thorough and more concisely written, from what I've seen so far.

    Hey Mat, love this video! I’ve been wanting to reach out to more structural engineers for advice so this video was right on time! Thank you! Love your work as always and keep it up! I have a question for u though. PS I’m a high school senior aspiring to be a structural engineer. I remember in your degree review video of your bachelors and masters that its a good idea to take as many structural design classes as you can during undergrad. At my school you do take a fair number of structural design classes but you only get three directed electives for your major. Would you say AFTER you graduate with your degree its not a bad idea to take a few extra classes if you want before going into the work force to really hone in on your theory or no? Would you say just waste no more time in school and head into the workforce and learn on the job and take seminars/audit classes like you said before in previous videos. I was just wondering because there were many classes that seemed interesting to me but i wouldnt have enough room for. 😅 Thx.

    • @MatPicardal
      @MatPicardal  Před 2 lety

      I’d say work first and learn as you go. Most people tend to take more classes because they can’t get a job, so if you can get a job first, go for it. You can technically always take classes after work or go back to school, but you can’t always get work experience whenever you want.
