What is a Harmonetta?

  • The Hohner Harmonetta is sometimes referred to as "The Typewriter". It ismore than a "Mechanical Chord Harmonica" You may play chords and single notes. It is a Blow and Draw instrument, Harmonettas are rare but playable ones are even more rare. Even a broken down harmonetta often fetches a good price!
    In this demonstration I play Swing Low sweet Chariot.

    What's the learning curve like for a diatonic player?

    • @kenLeiboff
      @kenLeiboff  Před 6 lety +3

      nacoran hard to say . You should have a good understanding of chords. The keys are laid out logically but you can't really see them from playing position ... the main issue from a diatonic point of view is that you have to play a little softer ....the harmonettas is not overly loud so you really need to amplify. It is loud enough to play with an acoustic guitar,,,,, To simply play a 3 or 4 chord progression. Might only take a few minutes...... the breath control is the main issue. Harmonettas are very expensive. And there is no one left to fix them. The reeds are steel and durable however the mechanism inside is quite involved

      @@kenLeiboff One of my friends have one and he said that he got it fixed (over five years ago) here in Finland if I recall correctly. Accordion/harmonica repairer can do it if they only are willing to take it, which is not the case always. But repairers usually like to take a challenge. My friend said that the major problem is that there are so many screws to take out which is so time consuming that the repairer's "valuable time" is not worth it if you are not willing to pay pretty big money for that (many hundreds). So it's definitely possible to get it fixed even today if you have money.
