    Wonder about the sharp turns into those robotic milk stalls. Seems like a recipe for WLD in every video I have seen, only one with rubber down to help negate it but all placed in such a way that it isn't avoided in the first place.

    5 Rows of stalls and only one side for feeding? Dont you have minimum requirements for feeding area per cow?

      I thought the same

    • @rweisele
      @rweisele Před 3 lety

      Herbert, most all new dairy operations do not feed the cow while milking, they are fed before or after milking. Therefore a free choice feeding method is all that is necessary. I milked cows starting 32 years ago, and fed my cows while milking the the feederless milking was coming in even at that time.

    • @herbertlandschmid3012
      @herbertlandschmid3012 Před 3 lety +2

      @@rweisele i know that i have 3 rows of stalls and 1 side for feeding. i always feed for 25-26 hours and give the rest tp the heifers so theres 23 hours and 5 minutes in that my cows can get feed. but they still somehow decide that 2/3 of them have to eat at the same time and thats also all that fit. Young and low social rank cows often decide not to eat at all if they cant do at their time and so they get (subclinical) ketosis. So my new barn has one feed slot for every 1.1 cows to help avoid that situation.
      Also theres a law in my state that requires you to have at least 1 feed slot for every 1.2 cows. a very old law actually says every cow should have its own but thats from a time when they were tied in place in 99,9% of barns so that made sense back then.

    How do the robotic milkers know if a cow gets mastitis??

    • @hughmarcus1
      @hughmarcus1 Před 3 lety

      One of Lely’s features is the ability to sterilise the clusters between each cow, thus reducing transmission of mastitis.

    • @Kilhamjim
      @Kilhamjim Před 3 lety +2

      @@hughmarcus1 I can understand that, but it doesn't help if the cow has mastitis , how does it tell the dairy person which cows to treat. And which cows milk to discard.

    • @hughmarcus1
      @hughmarcus1 Před 3 lety +2

      I can’t say for certain if Lely can do this, but other robotic systems do monitor the milk & can dump the milk from a qtr or the whole cow if needed. Given that Lely are at the front of the market I’d imagine they can too.

But they have decided to take a huge loan at for their time, basicly puting all on one card to build freestall barn for 60 cows + youngsters. Today we have almost 30ha by our own about 100 in total rents. We have barn at maximum capacitance. It pays of to take some debs to do that but dont overdoo it. We have now one of the labour moved to machine work, meaby not robots, but compared to feeding and taking out manure manualy to do same work quickly on bihher scale and with less efford pays off. @@xsardas1999 just dont go any further than you and your family can work it on your own and still have some time for each other. Ive seen so many highly profitable farms break apart because the marriage didnt last just because they thought they had to work 14 hours every day and had no time for each other. First Goal is make the farm profitable yes but when it is you abdolutely need to spend time with your wife and kids too. even if its just going to the waterpark between milking times on a sunday and takig your wife out to eat in the evening. costs not much time and helps a lot.

      That shed is comparably cheap. In currently building one for the same number of cows but to the absolutely highest of German Standards (the one shown in the video would make a mediocre machine shed here) and that costs 1.5 million euros without taxes. But I hope to be able to use it for at least 20 years because legal standards for new cow sheds and old ones are currently rising at rate that if it continues there will soon not many farms be left.
