  • Double tonguing.
    Many teachers complicate this technique.
    It's really a very simple technique, the only problem is that it takes a few months to get good at it!
    It's really as simple as 5 minutes/day for 90 days, and you'll be a Double Tonguing champion!
    Best of luck!

    LMFAO I literally looked up how to double tongue because of Czardas and then you play "would you like to play passages like [plays czardas]" and I got super spooked 😂. Thanks for the tutorial btw!

    I've been at it for a week now. It will take longer than that! May I add a little piece of advice? -just practise "ka" for a while, without the "ta". The "ka" comes less naturally, whereas we've been doing the "ta" for as long as we've played the clarinet. Thank you for this fine and useful video!

    • @liamclarinet
      @liamclarinet  Před rokem +1

      I learned by practising ka in isolation, it worked, but I'm open to other paths. I'd wager 50% of my students struggle more with the transition from ta to ka than producing a decent ka. Pretty much, some people have a naturally big powerful ka ... They can skip straight to the "coordination" phase of learning DT. Thanks for the comment and thoughts!

      Try dü gü instead, because when you Take the k to serious the tongue stays to long in the closed position

      @@Jessikas-Klarinettenoase If thinking of [g] helps you, do it!
      Many teachers teach that [g] is preferable to [k] when double tonguing. I do not.
      In my language and accent, [g] and [k] are produced, from the larynx up, identically. The only difference is that [k] is voiceless and [g] is voiced.
      Same goes for [d] instead of [t] when single tonguing. The only difference is the voice, which you don't want anyway. If I want to double tongue and growl at the same time, sure, [d]/[g] is the way!

    it's quite difficult cause when I do so it kinda sucks the air out and messed with the air pressure in my mouth.

    This is something I want to do because my single tongue is 'safely' 112. I love your approach so have started practicing daily and it's working except I can hear the 'ka' in my throat..is that normal and will it eventually go away?

    • @liamclarinet
      @liamclarinet  Před rokem +4

      Thank you for your kind words!
      As with many techniques, teachers tend to over-complicate the teaching of Double Tonguing.
      It more-or-less comes down to coordination + fitness. The older I get the more I suspect everything comes down to this...
      Fitness: building up a "ka" articulation which is powerful enough to overcome your clarinet's resistance.
      Coordination: learning to synchronise finger movement with a new type of articulation.
      Regarding your concern, I can't know for sure what you hear, but I can say that I hear the "ka" far more than listeners do in my case.
      It's the same deal for other noises besides pure clarinet tone which we'd prefer not to hear. Key clacking, spitty reeds, finger slaps, etc... They're all so clear to the player, but more often than not, they're imperceptible to the listener. Especially if the listener is, say, more than 15 feet away.
      I think this is the core reason why many clarinettists enjoy playing in echoey rooms; it's a way to enjoy the rewards of our hard practice!
      Thank you for watching my video :)

    보통은 클라리넷의 더블텅깅은 싱글텅깅이 늦는 사람이 연습하고 익힙니다. 그런데 당신은 싱글텅깅이 비교적 빠른데도 더블텅깅을 연습했군요~ 완벽하진 않지만 훌륭합니다.

    Very helpful! But I still couldn’t understand that how to do the ‘Ka’ while not using my tongue. Dose it looks like to use my throat or still use my tongue but not touching the reeds? Very confusing that what’s the correct way to practice. Sorry for my pool English 😅

      practise is like walking. it's essential to get you where you need to go, but it's not very useful if you're pointing in the wrong direction. I make videos directing people down the least painful, shortest paths to learning clarinet techniques.
