  • $200 NBA Swingman Jersey? | Retail Jersey Rant | Mitchell & Ness Hardwood Classic Review
    In this episode of Man Cave Stuff with Jakkbox Creations, I ordered a jersey from a NBA team's official website. What I received was not what I expected. I go on a mild rant about swingmans and the de-evolution of retail jerseys.

      Part of the problem is the nomenclature that they use for jerseys because a swingman is usually listed as an “authentic” jersey. Which is obviously confusing because most people consider authentic to be the closest thing to what the actual players wear. If you go to the official NBA store website and filter by “authentic”, you will see that the M&N swingman jerseys are still included. 🤦🏽‍♂️

    It's true the quality isn't the same when peter capolino ran Mitchell and Ness. I got a newer bird authentic and a bird authentic from mid 2000's. The newer bird is made of polyester when the game worn Celtics jerseys are nylon just like the early 2000's Celtics bird jerseys. Even the tailoring is not the same anymore and yet they charge more money

    I’ve been a fan of Mitchell & Ness for a long time and historically speaking, they have always made great, high quality products. That said, clearly something changed during their partnership with the NBA/Nike where it was determined that it was in their best interest to reduce the quality of their swingman line. Perhaps the reason is because they offered a much better product at the same exact price point of Nike’s own swingman line (coincidentally around the time that Nike became the official partner for NBA jerseys). It’s very unfortunate for hardcore consumers because we all know how limited most of these throwback uniforms are and now there is seemingly no option to acquire them affordably unless you get lucky and purchase from a third party vendor (who are quickly running out of stock).

    I DEFINITELY understand your pain,I am just baffled at how Swingmans are nowadays with heat pressed twill,it's beyond infuriating.Since the last Adidas Swingmans version they went into this new method and Nike/Mitchell have only made prices higher while durability takes a hit. Two years ago M&N Swingmans were stitched and GODLY with the heavy fabrics too!
    As far as the price of your specific jersey,that's definitely the Team Store upcharge,idk if you could buy that anywhere else but as for example,the spurs have Sean Elliott jerseys for $175 instead of the usual $135 at the malls.
    Only through their site is it $175....and is heat pressed too..

    • @JakkBoxCreations
      @JakkBoxCreations  Před 3 lety +1

      Great point! It was actually during Adidas’ time as manufacturers that the swingman’s lost their stitching. You’re right. Hey Johnny! So I'm guessing it's the 1992 throwback. Back then the Eagles used screen printing, but that process makes for difficult manufacturing. So M&N went with vinyl graphics for their reproductions. All that to say, they're shouldn't be any sewn numbers, letters or logos. Hope that helps.

    That’s crazy that they’re now charging $200 for swingman jerseys and they’re not even stitched at that. I purchased a Magic Johnson M&N swingman jersey a couple years ago for $100 compared to the $300 authentic. That to me seems a bit more reasonable. Authentic’s are always the way to go, but the price tag does hurt a bit 🥴

    • @JakkBoxCreations
      @JakkBoxCreations  Před 3 lety +2

      Buying options are always a good thing. I'd never knock anyone for buying one over the other. Especially for what they're charging. And $100 for the greatest Laker ever?! That's a win right there!

    • @jaekidd
      @jaekidd Před 3 lety +1

      @@JakkBoxCreations absolutely! For some it’s preference. But it mainly comes down to affordability, which is understandable. The fact that they’ve increased the price on replica/swingman jersey’s is not ok. They’ve always been a good alternative with reasonable quality. But for them to up-charge and cutback on quality is unacceptable. I personally would much rather shell out some extra cash but know what I’m getting, rather than gambling and going the affordable route and receiving mid tier quality. I think the last decent swingman’s the NBA had was right before their adidas contract ended. The year before Kobe retired, those were great! But yes, luckily M&N swingman’s were cheaper a few yrs ago and I was able to snag a Magic jersey for a decent price. It’s not the authentic which I know is 10x’s better lol but it looks and feels good 👍

Crappy quality, the size L fit like an old Adidas retro swingman small..
