Learning from a mistake the first time and being able to instantly perfect and learn from it shows her amazing talent. Even with such a stumble she is soooo talented
You know they weren't the same vault right? She was always supposed to perform 2 different vaults, but after overrotating the first vault it would be easy to lose composure and also make a mistake on the second. This video is highlighting that she was able to perform the second well even after making an uncharacteristic mistake on the first. Sorry if you already knew that, just wanted to clarify.

Oh yes they do! And sometimes often. Last olympics, team USA womens gymnastics was having issues with inconsistency and they tried bringing back Nastia...she had shoulder issues and did it anyway but couldn't. Then she had to retire. Everyone peaks at theyr own rate and you hope ot lines up with your goals. ❤❤❤

It’s actually safer for her to over rotate this vault instead of under rotating. But the fact she is able to over rotate this insanely difficult vault that already takes an enormous amount of power is just a testament to her being borderline super human 😆 I’m so glad to be living in the era of Queen Simone!!!! ❤
Even with her overrotation on Vault 1, she is SO incredible that she still would have won the gold medal, had she not had her coach spotting her --- on the world's most dangerous women's vault ! It's a .5 deduction just for being spotted. In truth, Andrade was not even close to this. And the female commentator called Simone's 2nd vault "easier" ... at 5.6 ! I'm sure no other competitor did anything harder than a 5.6 vault for their HARDEST vault of the two.

What’s crazy is that Simone still would’ve won the Gold with a fall, if not for the mandatory .5 pt deduction for her Coach standing on the mat as a spotter during her first vault. Spotting is allowed on bars but not on vault. Many Gymnastics rules are so dumb!
No. Everybody over rotates - she didn't get gold until she learned to control that. She used to be brilliant yes - but couldn't stick the landings; which is the most important thing - & she never used to stick the landings in anything really - that's why she went away; had some rest (I think she went to the Island🇯🇲💜& gave herself some time to recuperate; it's tough on anybody constantly training fot years) & then she worked v hard on correcting all those faults & sticking the landings & then came back better than ever. Everybody over-rotates but they learn to control it (& in Gymnastics artistic expression & more is important) they get points for both - you cannot win without power & artistic strengths) When she won this time she was brilliant🙏🏻💜🇬🇧💜

As a composer who didn’t start until my 40s and literally waited 9 years to try again at music school (after I didn’t get financial aid and took 9 years to pay it off tuition for one semester), it means so much to see this.

I remember McKayla Maroney saying in an interview she was practicing this same skill and said that you have to go full out or(in her words),'you like...can die'😂 she was still in early stages of developing the skill so she practiced it in a foam-pit. Wasn't landing it on a mat . One day, the US headcoach saw her practicing it and almost had a heart attack. She wasn't allowed to practice it anymore as it was too risky. Thankfully that coach is gone. Simone is the only woman able to land it consistently and safely.

When you have TOO MUCH POWER it can be just as bad as not enough when you are competing. She over rotated the first vault with too much power. Can't wait to see her in Paris! Think all of 🇺🇸 will be waiting to see her shine! ❤❤❤❤

it's a double pike but it's kind of 2.5 because she starts upside down and lands straight up

In all honesty, as a former gymnast if I ever over rotated on a skill I found it much more difficult to dial it back versus under rotating and trying to find enough power to finish. It was much more difficult for me to dial back strength versus building strength - granted I never had many issues with “too much power,” rather always didn’t have enough power, the concept of dialing back your strength when doing difficulty at this level seems much more challenging.
