  • In today's fast-paced world, many people find themselves struggling to find meaning and purpose in their lives. They may feel stuck in unfulfilling jobs or relationships, or simply feel a sense of emptiness despite outward success. What if the key to finding your life purpose lies within you, in the unique combination of intelligences and motivations that make you who you are?
This is the idea behind the concept of "innermotivation," which suggests that by identifying and nurturing our dominant intelligences, we can tap into a deep sense of intrinsic motivation that can guide us towards our true calling in life.
The theory of multiple intelligences, developed by Howard Gardner, provides a framework for understanding the diverse ways in which people process information and interact with the world. Gardner identified eight distinct intelligences: linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalist. Each of us has a unique profile of these intelligences, with some being more dominant than others.
When we engage in activities that align with our dominant intelligences, we experience a sense of flow and satisfaction that comes from doing something we're naturally good at and enjoy. This intrinsic motivation is a powerful force that can sustain us through challenges and setbacks, and provide a sense of meaning and purpose to our lives.
Moreover, by combining the concept of innermotivation with Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs, we can see how nurturing our inner drives can lead to self-actualization, the highest level of human need. When we're able to express our unique talents and contribute something of value to the world, we experience a deep sense of fulfillment and purpose.
So how can we tap into our innermotivation and find our life purpose? The first step is self-awareness. Take time to reflect on your strengths, interests, and the activities that bring you joy. Notice when you feel most alive and engaged, and what intelligences you're drawing upon in those moments.
Once you have a sense of your dominant intelligences, look for ways to nurture and develop them. This may involve taking classes, seeking out mentors, or simply carving out time to engage in activities that align with your natural abilities. As you do so, pay attention to the ideas and opportunities that emerge, and trust your intrinsic motivation to guide you towards your unique path.
Remember, finding your life purpose is a journey, not a destination. By staying connected to your innermotivation and continuing to grow and develop your dominant intelligences, you'll be well on your way to living a life that is authentic, meaningful, and deeply fulfilling.
