  • In this Patreon-requested video, we’re gonna take a look at a company called OneMain Holdings, ticker symbol OMF. Their stock currently offers a generous yield that’s exceeding 9% and they’ve never had a distribution cut since going public in 2013. So right away these two things make this stock pretty appealing, especially for those who love high income. From a performance perspective, they’ve done pretty well, as their share price is up about 121% since going public, without factoring in dividends being reinvested. Overall it looks like this holding has some good potential, so let’s take a deeper look at this company and see if it’s worthy of consideration for investors.
    To give a general overview, OneMain Holdings is a financial services holding company that engages in consumer finance and insurance businesses. The company originates, underwrites, and services personal loans secured by automobiles, other titled collateral, or unsecured. The company also offers credit cards and insurance products comprising life, disability, and involuntary unemployment insurance. OneMain operates through a network of approximately 1,400 branch offices in 44 states in the U.S., as well as through their website. This company was founded 112 years ago, back in 1912 and today they have a market cap of over 5 billion dollars.

      Yeah, I' m 50, retired a while at 45. 1 have 35% of my capital invstments in an IRA. 25% in index funds, and the balance spread across other investment accts. in cumulative of over $ 5M. I receive income from my rental properties too. Zero debt and all is going accordingly. My financial consultant has been patient and has done a wonderful job for me throughout the years.

      No doubt being financially free and not having to worry much about health care and other expenses especially after retirement cannot be overemphasized, making smart plans and setting up diversified investment portfolios is quite essential.

    the yield on bonds have decreased especially on the long end (30 and 10 Y) indicating that the demand is still there even if the supply remains huge showing a preference for safety. I'm still at a crossroad regarding whether or not to liquidate my $38k .

      I agree with you. I started out with investing on my own, but I lost a lot of money. I was able to pull out about $200k after the 2020 crash. I invested the money using an analyst, and in seven months, I raked in almost $673,000 .

      Lots of individuals undervalue the function of advisors until they are burned by their own emotions.     Having had invested in Lending Club back in the day. Defaults were a dime a dozen, and I had my share of losses. So, yeah, I'm not touching OMF since all it takes is one little recession and investors lose everything. Almost as bad as MPW.

    I ran into someone that worked for OneMain Financial and he said the money was good, meaning he was paid well, but felt terrible about signing people up for high interest loans. He felt most people were either not going to pay the loans back or go into more debt.

      Worked in this industry 1985-1991, felt same as that guy. Then they moved to collections/recovery, unbearable. Got out.

    My largest payout ever came from this company. They have quit paying specials, but I still like the $1 dividend! Been buying recently too! 28% profit margin - I am in!

      Make sure you average out the amounts that are distributed to you. Holding this stock is like having a commission based job.

      @@wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303 This is an easy stock to hold! I actually have this in 3 accounts. I follow pretty closely, but that is what I enjoy doing! The dividend has been the same for last year and a half. No complicated calculations here! I actually do no calculations (or records) my brokerage does that!

    Forgot to mention their dividends are qualified . I guess it’s obvious but with the high yield some may overlook that

      Whether a dividend is qualified or not qualified is like last priority to me; however, more and more people, especially retirees are always looking for stocks that pay qualified dividends.

    Price jumps around too much on this one. In 2015 it collapsed to $16 then back up to $45 then back to $13. Way too much volatility. Maybe if it drops back to $13 to $15 range it's a short term buy opportunity for a quick pop. Definitely not a long term play.

      It reminds me of royalty trusts. All you would have to do is hold onto this stock, but just make sure the price is consistent from ex dividend to exdividend. Make sure the price is always in the green from the price you had originally bought it at.

      @@Growth_Stock_Life Except close ended funds have a risk when trying to sell shares because they are limited. If for some reason, it gets to a point where people are not buying what you are selling; you could be left holding the bag.

      @@wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303 Never had that problem. We are screening funds for various metrics and there is a risk pyramid for these investments. I constantly liquidate holdings at highs and reinvest to expand working capital. If your goal is income it's not a concern. Diserfication into around 50 holdings that yield an average of 9% ish will mean nothing exceeds 2% of your portfolio and any such event will be negligable.

    Too much risk for my blood plus I plain just don't like the business. No dividend policy....hhmmm. I could see having a small portion in this company but I couldn't be comfortable with anymore than 2-3% of total portfolio max.

    They are a predatory lender and they are probably a great investment if you have no morals. This is the type of company that should be avoided at all costs especially if you wish to have investments that do not screw people over

      @@chrislegros9476 It is going to be my goal to look up, as I have been, every business behind a stock and only invest in those with fewer controversies and lawsuits. At one time, I wanted my portfolio to be one with business that had no bad history.
      Then I found that to be able to compete in a capitalistic society, one HAS TO undercut and do unethical things to survive.

    There are going to be massive defaults this year ( 2024 ) so I expect this company to rake in assets but drop or eliminate it's dividend.
