I think that how you are Breathing on the Vent depends on if you have your Vent settings right now to do it or need to be changed. And you get more Anxiety to be off of Breathing Support if you are not able to Breathe on your own and they reconnect you to the Circuit again.
I recently had to endure being placed on a bipap machine while in the hospital and much like with my experience on CPAP years ago I found the mask itself to be the most unpleasant part of the entire experience.
For me having Medical Equipment doing my body functions you get used to it and depend on it because you are not able to do it on your own and only get anxious if I have Equipment malfunction issues and being worked on and things like that because you know that you need it to be working right to stay alive so when something like that happens you get scared until you are up and running right again because it is not always working right and something can happen at any time and you need to go to the Hospital and Emergency room so you need to be prepared for that.
Hello. Thank you for the question. Ventilators work by pushing high pressure air into the lungs during inhalation. This expands the lungs (and mimics a person taking a breath in). The ventilator then switches to a low pressure. The decrease in pressure causes the air to leave the lungs. This mimics a person exhaling.
The Vent pushes the air into your lungs with high pressure and then switches over to low pressure so that is how you exhale with a Vent breathing for you.
Hello. I do not use a speaking valve. In order to speak, the cuff on the tracheostomy tube must be deflated. For more information about how to speak with a tracheostomy tube, please see the following video: czcams.com/video/FSL57g7iIN8/video.html
I just found your channel because my grandmother just recently got a tracheostomy, she’s not on a ventilator, but she’s on a tracheostomy due to cancer and possible swelling from the treatment. I’m a totally blind viewer and I have kind of an odd question for you, what does the ventilator sound like? Is it loud? Also, can you talk with the ventilator engaged?
Hello. Thank you for sharing about your grandmother. My ventilator is not loud. It sounds like a gentle whisper. Yes, I talk while my ventilator pushes air in and out of my lungs. All my best to you and your grandmother.
My ventilator pushes air in and out of my lungs. When the cuff on my tracheostomy tube is deflated, air escapes up my respiratory tract and out my nose and mouth. When the cuff on my tracheostomy tube is inflated, all the air enters and exits via my tracheostomy tube, and no air passes through my nose and mouth. If you would like a visual of this process, please see the following video: czcams.com/video/7zsVmahVoMg/video.html
No air passes through your nose and mouth because the Vent is Breathing for you and the Vent is pushing the Air in and out like if you could do it on your own and you could pass Air through your nose and mouth.

That is a great point.

Thank you for sharing your insight.
That was very interesting. I did wonder what it felt like to breathe on a vent
I am glad I could help.
This will make it easier when I'm faced with this choice, hopefully not soon
Do you have NTM PD? That causes respiratory failure
No, I do not have NTM PD.
How do ventilators help with exhaling if someone can't? Does the air just leave their lungs, or does the ventilator remove the air?

May I ask if you have a speaking valve inline while your trach is cuffed to allow you to still speak even while the trach is cuffed?

Is it true that is good to lie prone at your stomach so the pressure will help recoiling and strengthen your lungs?
I do not know.

Hello. I made a video about what my ventilator sounds like. Here is the link if you wish to view the video: czcams.com/video/tcf2ZLYOk8U/video.html
Do you use your nose or mouth to breathe?
