My husband and I married at City Hall 31 years ago after dating for a year, a big wedding was not necessary ; we been happily married all these years. My wish for you is that you are as happy as we are.

My husband and I didn’t have a ceremony here in the states either. He was my first real, serious partner and we got married pretty young and we’re still doing well! We went to the courthouse to get our papers and had a friend be out officiant a few days later. And then we hosted a party at a bowling alley for a small number of family and friends. I doubt we spent more than $200 total. The ceremony is definitely not the most important thing.

This is important to know, so I hope you read this.
Japan's policy on multiple citizenship is that any Japanese with more than one nationality must make a choice between being officially Japanese or foreign by the time they reach the age of 22.
However, they don't actually have to choose.
What most American/Japanese dual nationals do is they tell Japanese govt, if they ever get questioned that is, that they will forfeit their American citizenship but then they actually don't.
According to the US constitution, the only way to forfeit citizenship is to go in front of the US court and say it, but in reality, nobody dares to go through that process.
Thus people end up keeping both citizenship in most cases - it is not illegal, Japanese govt will not come chasing you or punish you. They are not authorized to to do that in the first place.
I have a son who has dual citizenship of Japan/US and he is 25, I also know a lot of friends' kids who are in the same situation.

@@Adi-Dassler I don't think you understand the point here. They do have permanent residency in both countries by birth.
In Chinese culture, you are who your father is. So there are no confused mixed race.
So, if you were use US passport while you declared as Japanese citizen, and some how you get caught by the Japanese authority, what will happen to you. Be careful about that. Japanese government that this as quite a serious offense. One could get forfeit the citizenship.
Interesting. I’ve read that Japan does not allow dual citizenship.

Im so excited for you two! Its not the ceremony that matters, its the relationship between you two. Ive loved watching this relationship unfold and so glad you shared with us. You have 150k people that are wishing you all the love you deserve.
I actually embedded this video once and it help a woman that is going through an abusive relationship. In the west a lot of women got a sense of confusing Dating to be the same as marriage and not understanding mutual consent is required to count as Dating. This is very unhealthy. In the East we don't have this problem and what I find is western women living in the East (maybe it is due to an Asian influence) are less likely to have this problem. When I saw this video online, I know I can use it to get through to this woman, as a part of a support material. And it work very well. There is an old saying, the first step to getting help, is to admit you got a problem. I can't help this woman to get out of an abusive relationship, but I am able to help her get a better understanding of her situation and admit she got a problem. And it work very well.

I know many people who didn’t have an “official” wedding. They just went to the court house and signed papers and it was awesome. Had a tiny celebration back home with a few close relative and they enjoyed every second of it. Not everyone has this big wedding ceremony and that’s okay! Doesn’t make your marriage less official or important than the other. Everyone is different and everyone enjoys different types of things.

My husband and I got married at the court house. We will be married for 10 year next month. I never cared about the wedding. To spend all that money on one day was silly to me. Congratulations to you guys

This is so very real and I love your content. People get so swept up with social media and media in general and get in debt to have the largest, the most grand weddings. I respect your honesty and transparency, which is one of the reasons I continue to watch your videos. I don't mind seeing any of the dirty dishes, gray weather, shaky camera views, and just regular hard working people in Japan. Please continue this type of realism in your life, I appreciate you in this hyper-content saturated life where there is just too much "showing off" going on. :)
