ENABLE vs WINX... Already a good debate in the comments!

Whenever this topic comes up I always ask myself would Enable beat Humidor, Hartnell, Gailo Chop, Kluger, Benbatl?
Hmmm I wonder if she would?

I think Winx was truly elite at 8-9f but against really high class 7f or 10f horses she would have been vulnerable but she never ran against any so was never put to the test.

Enable was a great champion horse, but Winx was better stop comparing to who she raced and just look at how easy she did it was way to strong late would of put 2 lengths on Enable would of been great to watch tho.

If Enable was a colt, she would have probably ended her career at the end of her 3 year old season and gone to stud. I'm glad she wasn't because she gave us the privilege of watching her up to being a 6 year old. I've loved her every race and hope she produces many classic winners in her new career as a brood mare.❤

Enable's career harked back to a bygone era of racing, when the King George was the highlight of the summer, where the finest 3yo's routinely took on the older generation (and frequently bested them). When the Breeder's Cup was a truly coveted international event, attracting the best on both sides of the pond. The 2019 King George was the most thrilling renewal of that race since Grundy/Bustino in 1975. 50 years from now it will still be spoken of with awe and reverence.
    Concerning Enable vs. Winx:
Winx's greatest weapon was her superb turn of foot. Australian races at the middle distance more often that not are paceless with a sprint to the finish. Such races don't drain much energy out of the horse and those with the quickest acceleration usually prevail. This is how Winx was able to string together so many wins with such short periods of rest in between. If Winx had run in England in races with an honest pace, I believe she would have been successful sprinting or over a mile, but at middle distances she would never have been able to stay so close to the lead to be in a tactical position to unleash her signature kick at the end.
To run well at the middle distance in England requires much higher stamina to maintain a quick cruising speed, as well as energy in reserve to finish strongly. All these attributes Enable possessed in spades. Enable faced much better competition, ran far more difficult and taxing races, and proved her ability to maintain form after traveling, winning at the highest level on 8 different tracks in 4 countries. Both were terrific mares but Enable was far greater both in ability and from a historical perspective considering what she accomplished.

I wouldn't say Australian races are paceless, they tend to be a bit more sit and sprint, that is true. Comparitively, Euro horses, dawdle out the gates very slowly but start a longer run earlier than Aussie horses would start to sprint. Australian horses use a bit more out of the gate to get their best position, slow down a touch mid race and sprint a bit faster over the last few furlongs, but overall they are differences in fractions of seconds. You only have so much petrol to get to the line and if you get there at the same time, which is relatively true. It's somewhat irrelevant in comparing performance how each got there. The great thing about Winx was that they tried everything, they did run Euro Style races indeed a number with Euro horses to try to best her. They tried to stack her up. Those race sectionals are available online. I definitely don't see winning in those circumstances is less meritorious than having a pacemaker make things cosy for you.
I think if you had seen some of the tracks that Winx raced on and realised that Sydney Metro gets more annual rain than Stoke-on-Trent, I think you're opinion on easy runs may change. Maybe not as difficult as some of the tracks Enable ran on, but not easy runs at all. If you are getting a month or two off between runs you would want them to be hard runs. You also seem unaware of the concussive effects of our summer and spring courses and how it leads to micro-injury and arthritis. Not every horse stands up to her schedule, in fact at the top level it is rare. She was exceptional in that regard and had more Group 1's than Enable did races. Racehorses aren't made sitting in the paddock.
Also Australian horses began the modern trend of racing in both the King's Stand and Jubilee with Choisir for which the Euro pundits used the same argument you are. I think Winx was a more genuine racehorse. They never had to adandon major targets like Ascot because 'we couldn't get her ready in time' two years in a row. What does that even mean? They never had to use every trick in the book to get her to workout in her last two seasons.
Enable was a gun at her peak and would get my tick over 2400m, but 2000m and less, especially at the older ages, Winx all day.

Queen of the turf. We're lucky we got to witness her. I wish her the best at stud, and look forward to seeing her progeny on the track. Thanks for the memories Queen.
As for the debate... we’re lucky we got to see both of them. Two extraordinary mares at the top of the game, the longevity of both their careers is something we rarely get to see on the flat-we would be lucky to ever see a another attempt a 3rd Arc. Both trained to perfection. IMO though, Enable will go down as an all time great of racing, while Winx will go down as an all time great of Australian racing, obviously still being a great of sport. 👍🏻

I remember being there at Ascot for her first King George win - I’d backed Ulysses, the Eclipse winner, who she made look pedestrian. She was superb in her 3 year old season; if you had Winx run in the field which Enable beat, powering clear to win the Oaks in record time, I think Winx would have come up just short. Two great mares in their own right, but I’m not sure many - if any - fillies or mares would have beaten Enable in her 3 year old season. Superb.

Enable is definitely one of the greatest British Racehorse🇬🇧🐎 ever.
She wins lots of great horse race in British; And even though she only join in fillies and mares only horse races, however she ends up becomeing one of the best racehorse in the world.
She became the first ever racehorse to wins the colt-dominated King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes three time time, and no other racehorses has ever archived that!😃
Miss Enable even became a twice-winner of the Frence Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (2017, 2018).
In addition, she made history again after winning The Breeders' Cup Turf (2018), and became the first horse to win both the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and Breeders' Cup Turf in the same year.
Enable is the pride for feminist like us and definitely one of the greatest racehorse of British...👍🏼🇬🇧🐎
...oh no! She is one of the greatest race horse in the world, and in history too!😃👍🏼🇬🇧🐎
Hope she will have a happy retirement life and give birth to talented mares and colts who can join great horse races like the St. Legar Stakes, King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Derby and whatnot.😃🥰♥️💖

Enable defeated Waldgeist in the 2018 Arc, Breeders Cup, and 2019 King George and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, before losing to him in the 2019 Arc. Had the turf been firm at Longchamps , I have no doubt Enable would have won the race that day making her the only three time winner of the Arc. She will go down in history as one of the greatest.

The Enable vs Winx debate is a silly one.
One horse ran 7-10f on easy manicured flat velodrome like tracks against rubbish opposition 98% of the time and the other ran over 12f on testing European racecourses against high class opposition more than 50% of the time.
You may as well ask who would win a race between Black Caviar and Makybe Diva they are so different

Did she not like the track or does Frankie just not ride it well?

  • @elgransenor1472

Did she race better left handed or right handed?
    Or didn’t it matter?
In the same way it was disappointing never to see Frankel run at Newmarket again after his Guineas win it’s a shame we never saw Enable at Epsom again after her Oaks win.
Winx won about 25 races at Randwick/Rosehill.

It didn’t matter, as for running at Epson again, there was only the coronation cup for her but that was pretty early in the season for her as she had mid summer/autumn targets.
