    2. Describe a time when being transgendered put you in an awkward or dangerous situation.
    3. How have your parents/guardian/whomever raised you reacted? How did you tell them?
    4. Have you taken testosterone? What kind of side effects have you experienced?

    I need to get back to working out.. I re-gained a ton of weight not that long ago, and let's just say it's done nothing good for my self esteem. x.x - Glad you made this video. I've thought about protein powder mainly because right now my diet isn't so great. (Not eating as much or as often as I should, going too long between meals of any kind, etc.), and I was told that a protein shake would give me more energy for actually working out.

    Before, there was only "aoi" which was a semantic unit used to convey the color spectrum other languages see as "blue AND green." Now, "aoi" has been become distinct from a relatively new word, "midori," - "aoi" now covering the blue electromagnetic spectrum, "midori" the green portion of that spectrum. Words diverge all the time as new words are developed. I doubt any Japanese person would say "midori" is slang. Likewise, any scientist would NOT say "gender" is slang.

    Language can expand in order to encompass more of what we come to see in the world. Medical terminology is constantly evolving, for instance. There is nothing about adding to vocabulary or changing which words you use that threatens grammatical conventions. Switching pronouns does not change grammar. It just replaces one semantic unit with another semantic unit of the same type (one pronoun to another). And if people get confused, that's why we've developed a language that can explain things.

    @vadergbx11The fact is that some women have masculine personalities. Some portion of them are probably resentful of people who can easily grow beards, and have male bodies. Which means that the angry, masculine women I bump into (who know nothing about me), aren't necessarily crazy, but possibly just frustrated and jealous.
    As for whether or not some lesbians want to be men, I think it is extremely likely that at least a small percentage would want to.

    It's just a recognition of the multivarious ways in which a single semantic unit can be applied by different people based on their understanding of that semantic unit. That's how trans*people use the word. Whether it's scientifically correct is debatable. Whether it matters if they use it in a technically incorrect manner depends on how important you think it is to be technically correct. Whether your feelings about their usage should dictate that they agree with you is simple: No. They choose.

    Technically - and not in call cases - the person in this video was born without the sex-determining region Y gene coded during early development. We label such people as "female." But there are females with the Y gene. It was simply coded inactively and didn't cause any changes in the ovotestes to make those "females" male. But there are instances of females with Y chromosomes, and men without Y chromosomes - the gene from the Y gets coded onto another but the chromosome itself doesn't pass.

    IT is a fact that, without any intervention, any sex can have developed a multiplicity of ANY chromosome, non-sex (autosome) and/or sex (allosome). And, no, technology has developed enough to show entire chromosomes and show multiplicity. The "XY" is a chromosome PAIR, not a single chromosome. And each chromosome in that pair can be analyzed separately. They can't be reduced. You'd have to go into every cell with unprecedented technology and somehow extract individual base pairs from every cell.

    You said, "They can't be reduced. You'd have to go into every cell with unprecedented technology and somehow extract individual base pairs from every cell."
    -But because an embryo at it's beginning stages is only the size of a few cells, there aren't very many cells to extract a percentag of Y chromosome, and in fact, doctors have done this many times in attempts to change the "sex" of a child (at the parent's request), it's why doctors say it happens at embryo stage, but the experiment fails.

    To correct you, BPD is not a chemical imbalance, it's an emotional thing, an emotion that many people have when they are raised by narcissistic parents by some degree, or were in toxic relation ships in the past. Many unskilled psychiatrists prefer to use medication instead of fixing the root of the problem (this makes the patient worse), REAL skilled psychiatrists get to the root of the problem (the emotions) to fix the problem, & many patients have been cured by that procedure.

    The difference between gender and sex is no longer "slang" because it's been adopted by science. Slang is just a change in words or a reduction of multiple words into one word, not a distinction between words. When "sex" and "gender" were defined to fit scientific findings, they each took on new meaning. Neither of them became slang, they just became distinctive of one another for the sake of clarifying concepts. Language has never been static. "Proper science" overwhelmingly supports this.

    [cont] As you know, men have an X and a Y chromosome and women have two X chromosomes. So besides the usual 0.1% (or 3.2 million base pair) difference between people, men and women differ by the presence of the Y chromosome.
    The Y chromosome is a tiny thing; it is about 59 million base pairs long and has only 78 genes. If we look at base pairs, the difference between men and women would be 59 million divided by 3.2 billion or about 1.8%. This translates to men and women being 98.2% the same.

    Such psychological docters you speak of do not study narcissism in their feild, there are 2 types of psychology researchers: #1 there are the ones that observe traits but only filter it through their uncertainty in life as a result only coming up with changing theories & results, #2 and then there are those who purposely study narcissism, & from the patterns & traits, they discover the root of all psychological problems stemming from narcissism. Dr Sam Vaknin is a doctor who studies narcissism.

    @Itsisjustme There are obviously no clear cut rules when it comes to sexual preferences or gender identities. But as a general rule, most people tend to be resentful of those who have what they never will.
    That goes for a lot of things, poor people tend to be resentful of those who were born into the 'right' families, short people sometimes wish they were taller, and feminine bodied people sometimes wish they were more masculine.
    Lesbians, since they are human, are no exception.

    To be fair, I will point out your conjecture in an otherwise salient scientific discourse (more accurate on your part than I know Alan's discourse to be). You make conjecture about his disposition. I say this to clarify objective discussion imperatives, but I will add on a personal note, my conjecture in regards to his disposition (a bit arrogant and assuming) seems to match yours. You presented clear and compelling evidence, and if Alan doesn't alter his beliefs, that's his self-serving bias.

    In regards to your reply that was in my inbox but no longer visible here: I explained in every comment that I found illogical why I found it illogical. I rebutted individually, and when I felt strong objections, I noted them. I explained in one comment in particular - at length - what constitutes a valid and/or sound argument, and explained why I felt yours fell short. I recall instances of mentioning when I felt your comments were unsubstantiated and said that explicitly. I needn't say anymore.

  • @tcpseudonym-tp158
    @tcpseudonym-tp158 Před 11 lety

    The allosomes (sex chromosomes) in someone's karyotype is not the basis upon which science considers any species male or female. It's the presence of a coded sex-determining gene or genes that is established in order to make that scientific distinction. And aneuploidy (multiplicity of chromosomes - any chromosome) is created in utero/-vitro, without the intervention of external technology. This happens the same way in Downs Syndrome (multiplicity of one autosome [non-sex chromosome]).

  • @tcpseudonym-tp158
    @tcpseudonym-tp158 Před 11 lety

    You did note how people justify and alter their beliefs to avoid cognitive dissonance, and that is supported by science. But, not every instance of justification of cognitive dissonance is an attempt to alleviate clinical anxiety and/or depression. Parents have been shown to have a relatively miniscule effect on someone's development of a self-concept - PEERS have been shown, categorically, to have more influence on our self-concepts. Self-concept (scientific analog to "sense of self) changes.

  • @tcpseudonym-tp158
    @tcpseudonym-tp158 Před 11 lety

    No doctor in their right mind would attempt to make alterations of single base-pairs. I don't know enough to say that they can't influence which chromosomes are passed on (maybe in-vitro, they can - I don't know), but messing with any base-pairs containing portions of any gene (genes being a PORTION of chromosomes, not all base-pairs belong to genes, some are just structural) is dangerous and could result in many different developmental abnormalities.

    The difference between "sex" & "gender" has already been established in the older linguistics; words like "sex", "man" & "woman", were already invented to describe the physical biological differences, and words like "masculine" & "feminine" were invented to describe culture, the word "gender" was already invented to describe physical differences, the first person to change the meaning of these words was probably misinformed of the dictionary as a child (probably had an "F" in literature classes)

    You misunderstand:
    everything I said was all about the physical biological make-up of things, along with addition spiritual implications in relation to my scientific argument only, it had nothing to do with what the person wants to call his/ herself, someone could call their self "cheese" as a title & it would not have anything to do with my argument about science. You can talk all about what "names" people give their selves to invent new-age "slang", but I'm arguing science & super-dimensions.

  • @tcpseudonym-tp158

    I may, in a fit of frustration, post the word "illogical" to any comment I find to be so, just so you know I'm actually reading them, but I won't make any attempt to counter-argue unless I believe their is a chance for the discourse to go beyond antithesis and into synthesis (combining of information, coming to new conclusions, altering hypotheses, etc...). If you see something other than "illogical" as a response, it means I feel there is at least a possibility of synthesis. Show discretion.

    If you compare men & women with the same exact health: the GROWTH of muscles, body tissues & bone structure function differently, the out put of human development in human biomechanisms are VERY different because the genes in men & women are 50% different, men have the YX chromosomes while women have the XX chromosomes, & that makes a BIG difference in the OUTPUT/ expression of tissue, bone & muscle development. Basic logic I learned in high school. An argument can be a valid argument (follow its premises to reach a conclusion/conclusions), but if the premises are not sound, the entire argument is ONLY valid, but not sound. In order for an argument to follow proper logic, it must be valid AND sound. Baseless conjecture formed from a single sentence of someone you haven't even met, coupled with premature analysis that any credible scientist would scoff at, is not a sound premise. You're not being logical

    The problem was baal's attempt to project her unique feelings on the video maker, instead of letting the video makers (or people in general) speak for theirselves, Baal implies hat everyone she supports somehow feel & think exactly as she does, and I disagree because everyone is unique & thinks differently than each other, baal spoke possessively about the video maker, & even though it may *seem* supportive on the surface, it's actually a passive strategy that narcissists use to gain adoration.

    Sex, then, is only differentiated by the active coding of one portion of the Y chromosome, and it sets off a reaction that changes the phenotype (outward expression of genes) in significant ways... but not always to the degrees we normally see (some females lack in typical estrogen features, some men lack n testosterone features). Transmales are essentially changes the outward expression of their genes without altering the genes themselves. We label the phenotype "female" n that can be changed.

So they go through life as a lesbian. Meanwhile, guys like me cruise through life taking the facial hair and masculine physique for granted, which is probably irritating to those unsatisfied individuals.

I was speaking of the variations in bone structure and potential muscle growth found through out men and women. Features predominately found in men can also be found in women, and vice versa. It has to do with genetics, child development, and hormone balances. I'm not denying that the physical strength of male figures is some "times" number is greater than female figures...

    We invent new words all the time, independent of our parents sometimes, too. When science backs it enough to warrant a change, we make distinctions between the newly denotated words and the words they have become distinct from. That is not "gender slang." "Gender" is not a slang word - it's a word differentiated to explain a separate concept than what "sex" explains. The concept the word "gender" explains is sociocultural and always has been. They just found a word for it. That's not slang.

    Standards of beauty established in a culture are not adopted by everyone. While the person in the video may not conform to normative standards established by mass media, people that haven't adopted those standards may find the person in the video more attractive than some Hollywood celebrity. Norms are just that: norms. They're socioculturally constructed and NOT adopted by everyone. Beauty is subjective. [cont] If we take a closer look, we see some of the dangers of looking at raw percentages instead of individual changes.
    Another way to think about this is the 55 million or so differences between men and women are all concentrated on one chromosome and 78 genes. For chimps, the 42-150 million differences are spread out all over the chromosomes over many, many more genes.
    In other words, while the quantity of changes may be the same, the quality is different.

    I must point out that there are karyotype differences in biological males and females. Some males are XX, some females are XXY. All people can be X0 (meaning only one sex chromosome). Some males AND females are XXXY, some XXXXY, some even XXXXXY. It's called aneuplidy. Sex is determined by the coding of single gene (SRY gene), which is one portion of the Y chromosome (chromosomes are not genes, and genes are but a small portion of total DNA). And not all chromosomes are throughout the whole body

    I can't grow facial hair to save my own life... should I maybe take T for that? What would be the downside to that? I'm content with who I am now, but would be nice to have more facial hair to outline my jaw lie and whatnot. Thanks!
