This custard would be perfect for some little vegan lemon tarts! Thank you!
I just tried this today, and it turned out amazing! No need to worry about the turmeric, you won't feel its flavour in this one! I think it's an awesome recipe, very easy and tasty! Love this channel so much
I made this today between studying and it was amazing and so simple! Keep up the great videos!
Thanks Vegan Corner, I just love your simple and fundamental recipes. I already tried the gnocchi and will be doing this custard now! You're the best :)
Brilliant, fantastic yet again! Thank you.
Hi,I did it today for dessert and its great. Thanks from Spain :-)
Thank you so much ! I can't find many non-dairy desserts where I live and thanks to this recipe I've been making my own all the time, it's so quick and easy !
So far I've tried lemon, chocolate, orange blossom & cinnamon, coconut, Earl grey... they all turned out great :)
Louella.y how did you made the chocolate one? :))

daniellesoy Thank you so very much for saying that! Lots of love to you too ;)
I made this with cashew milk and used 1 tbl blue Agave in place of the white sugar. My husband is diabetic, and agave doesn't spike his blood sugar. It turned out PERFECT!!!! We'll be making this one again, and again, and again.
Amaizing! Thank you! Just subscribed!
Wow that looks amazing! I love lemon desserts!
Banana Wisdom Thanks :-) I hope you give this one a try because is special! Thanks for watching

sweetiepie9411 :-D Make sure to let me know if you liked it. Thanks for watching
Love the recipe thanks
Yum, great flavour combination :-)
CookingWithPlants Thanks :-)
This was great! I wasnt able to strain the lemon zest out though, and that was a bit irritating, and it made wayyyy too little. So I made a second batch, this time chocolate flavor, doubled the quantity and that made 3 nice small pudding cups :) i used 1 tbsp + 1 tsp cocoa powder and I added about 30-40g chopped up dark cooking chocolate, and a little extra sugar to combat the bitterness of the chocolate. It was REALLY delicious, my family loved it! I couldn't believe how quick and easy it was
Wow, this is silky, sweet, velvet heaven! Just left stunned by this, never thought that I would ever be able to have custard after turning vegan but this ....... It is just so good, I had it as a sauce on the brownies which are (by the way) divine but I will leave a post there about those treats and it went beautifully. Thank you guys for all your hard work as it is so appreciated!
+Andy Jones You are welcome my friend! This is not one of our most popular recipes, but it is indeed one of our greatest achievement, as I know how it tastes exactly like the non-vegan version. Thanks for watching
Waw. looks very nice. Thank you
oh my! It's past 11 pm and I'm supposed to go to sleep but all I want to do is watch this video again and make myself some custard! looks absolutely delicious!
IllinoisElohainu :-) You can go to sleep now, the recipe will be here waiting for you tomorrow morning, I personally vouch for that. Thanks for watching ;-)
proves yet again, that food is just wonderful vegan!
Simple and beautiful
Aww I love this I can finally make a vegan custard thank you❤
P.s Ive never made custard before but I'll surely try this.
that sounds bomb. so easy too!
Amanda Leigh This really is a delicious recipe; easy to make and excessively rewarding, and I'm not even a fan of sweet foods apart from fruit. Thanks for watching :)
You never fail to amaze me! My husband will be vegan if cook like you ;)
Li-San Loves :-D That's great! The whole point of this channel is to amaze people. I hope you give this one a try, I was shocked myself by the resulting dessert. I'm not worried about your husband at all, he will become vegan eventually, I'm sure about it. Thanks for watching :-)
Tried this last week, it was delicious! :)
Afra M Great! :) Thanks for letting us know!
I use to love custard before I was vegan! I cannot wait to try this!! So excited haha :)
Raw Awareness Then you'll love this! It tastes like regular custard, really, I was shocked myself! Thanks for watching and please let me know if you end up trying this recipe ;-)
It was my favourite food. I have not had it since eating a whole food plant based vegan diet. So I will try this tonight.
Peach Mango Moon Wonderful! Please let me know how it turned out, I'm sure you'll love it ;)
Keep up the good work with your videos. You are really good makeing delicios recipes and really good enjoyable videos. We been watching a lot of your videos and really love them!

Thank you! :-) Very kind of you to find the time to watch our videos and to leave a comment. I appreciate what you said very much and I hope we will continue to impress you with our work. Many many thanks!
i made today just with lemon juice and its amazing i use custard powder and sugar and its all. next time i will add mint juice or extact 🙆. still explore with what lemon more friendly. 😉
Yummy
Thank you for educating us :P
My pleasure! I wasn't trying to educate, but many things in the kitchen are not really properly understood, so it is always nice to share the little I know with the rest of the world :-) thanks for watching as usual ;-)
I'm going to try this! Very easy and straight forward recipe!
Many thanks!
Graceful4665 Wonderful! If you have the time, please let me know if you enjoyed it :) Thanks for watching!
Looks absolutely amazing! I've been craving this dish and am so happy you made a vegan version! Could you also make a vegan creme brulee for us viewers! That was my fav dessert before going vegan and I would love to have it again!
spanishchica2 Thank you for your support! It is likely that we will make a video for Crème brûlée in the future. However, If you know how it is usually made, you can adapt this recipe to make Crème brûlée as it is not very different. Simply make a thicker custard flavored with vanilla and burn some sugar on top of it :) Thank you for watching
OMG!!! This Lemon Custard is sooooo unbelievable delicious...and it is so simple that i can´t believe it! ;-D
THANK YOU
Thank you :) I agree with you, it is incredibly easy to make and it tastes just like standard custard. I was quite surprised when I developed this recipe. Thanks for watching
Yes yes the tatse is is soooo good!!!!
Yum! I love it - simple and lemony. Thanks so much for meeting my request. I have everything except the lemon. Tough time in the season, especially since California is experiencing a drought (animal agriculture >.
thehungryveg Thank you :-) I developed this recipe for you only, and then let my family taste it. They all loved it very much and I'm sure you will too. Thanks for watching
Yum!
Made this tonight but added some ground earl grey tea and omg.......😭😇😁
+Audrey Scanlon I love it with chamomile, as the final custard tastes like bubble gum. Next time I'll try with earl grey :) Thanks for watching
The Vegan Corner tried this again with chamomile and it was exquisite. Brought it to my family for Thanksgiving along with the potato croquettes and mushroom spread from your channel and everyone really enjoyed it, although I am the only vegan among us. Always looking forward to new recipes!
Audrey Scanlon Thanks a lot for letting me know :) I was sure that you were going to find the chamomile variation interesting, so thanks a lot for trying that out :)
That sounds quite interesting. :)
what is non dairy milk? here we only get soy milk
Looks great 👍😃😃
Thank you :-)
Looks great! Will try tonight! Can you do a vegan banana pudding? The custard in this video looks very similar but how will the banana taste be achieved?
I saw a mini beaker and now a weighing boat..haha I love it!
Giang Nguyen You are eagle eyed :D I've been studying molecular gastronomy for quite a few years now and my house is packed full of lab equipment! Thanks for watching
Tried it with coconut milk, it was delicious!
+prajakta korde Thanks for letting us know :) I'm glad you enjoyed the recipe!
best channel ever!
Thank you :-)
I prepared this dessert today and it was really good, like a pudding :)
I added a bit of ginger as well in it, but I am thinking of a way to make the lemon taste more powerful. I make the oat milk myself by blending one part oat flakes and three parts water (and some dates to sweeten it), and then I strain it. What if I used a part lemon juice instead of water? Do you think it would work? I would also add less sugar in that case because lemons have quite a lot of their own.
I also wanted to say that I discovered your channel yesterday by just browsing through CZcams, and I love the presentation of your videos (I watched most of them already), the humor, the fact that you put a lot of effort. Your videos are really entertaining, they're quite straightforward, and full of valuable information and interesting techniques. I cannot wait to share your recipes with friends and family (giving you full credit, of course). :)
All in all, I think you are amazing chefs, with a unique approach to gastronomy and youtubing, so please continue to make awesome videos because we have a lot to learn from you! :)
Lightnday Very kind of you to say that, thank you very much! We are professional chefs and we have been working very hard for this channel during the last year, so positive feedback is always very much appreciated :)
In regard to the recipe; I don't think that the method you described to add an extra lemony note would work. Your milk will end up quite sour and the final custard too. You can always try, but judging from the proportions you've mentioned I'm quite sure that it won't turn out as good as you expect. For an extra lemony note, I would simply add more lemon zest, or even grate it to release more flavor.
Many thanks for following us and for watching so many of our videos ;)
The Vegan Corner I understand... Thank you so much for your reply!
I wish you the best of luck with your channel! :)
Lightnday Always a pleasure to answer comments :) Thank you for your support
This looks delish! And nice, not a lot of ingredients :) Gonna try to make this as a dessert pudding kind of thing :)
Kwak Thank you. Yes, very little ingredients and yet it tastes out of this world, I promise. If you try it, please let me know if you enjoyed it :-)
deciding what to do with my remaining 150ml of plant milk is hard. pancakes, breakfast pudding with berries, waffles, ?... first world problems
+knallfroosch That's one serious problem you have. I hope you'll manage to find a solution for that remaining 150ml of milk ;)
LOL
i love a very lemony taste to my deserts would adding a little lemon juice stop it thickening or would it work?
Hi, I'm curious if this would make a substitute for heavy creme in drink type recipes (like homade frappucinos) if I let it cool, I tried to use it right when it came off the pan and was still a little hot and ended up with a pudding mixed with crush ice texture in my frappe - not appealing - but wondered if I let it cool over night if it would then work?
Your video gave me a lot of fun.
Do you have any substitute for sugar?
Can I complete the custard with oligosaccharide without sugar?
Thanks for your comment and for watching the video :) This recipe can be made with any kind of sugar, you simply have to adjust the quantity of it to your likings. I hope this helps
????love it. Where you get spatula and where they make please let me know love all you vegan videos
+Melba Perez Thanks! I use this spatulas here: amzn.to/1m3o6Je
one of my favorite channels! would you please make some gluten free breads in a bread maker if you have one?
missjessd123 I do not own a bread maker unfortunately, but I will surely make some gluten free breads in the future. Thanks!
never thought vegan custard was possible will be making this asap
nessa nessy It is entirely possible! And it tastes exactly like the standard one...I guess that eggs aren't that important after all ;)
Can you make a recipe for Indian veggie momos? Love your videos!
Mikaela Stevens I'm afraid we cannot take any further request as people already asked for more recipes than we will ever be able to make. I'll write down your request course, but I can't promise it will be done in the future. Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment :-)
definitely using this one because all of the other recipes for vegan lemon meringue pie use silken tofu in their custard and i hate tofu
This looks delicious. Could you use this custard for a tart filling? Would you just pour it into a pre-baked tart shell and then chill?
Diane Rios You know what? I've never tried to use it that way! It should work perfectly, but I think the starch recommended in this recipe isn't enough! If you give it a try, please let me know how it turned out ;)
I love this recipe! And i can't figure out where you are from based off your accent!
FollowTheSpidersxo I'm Italian but I live in the UK. The accent is simply the one of a person who is trying not to seem Italian :) Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment!
OMG IM TRYING THIS RIGHT NOW :D
+Alexandrine Lapierre I made a batch of this custard 10 minutes ago and it was absolutely delicious :) Enjoy it
+The Vegan Corner I can't believe how easy it was:) I made it with coconut milk... a bit to heavy but still DELICIOUS !! :)
+Alexandrine Lapierre :) Thanks for letting us know
yummmm. thanks for sharing! did you add the tumeric to make it yellow-y so it would look like lemon custard or is there another reason? also i actually like the skin on top of custard hahah its kinda chewy :P
Many people like the skin on top of custard, you are not alone :-) In Japan they make Yuba, which is basically pure soy milk skin. Turmeric is added exclusively for colour purposed. Thanks for watching ;-)
Looks yummy! Does it have to be caster sugar in particular? I noticed in the US ingredients it lists just 'sugar'.
Thanks :-) Oops, my mistake! We used regular granulated sugar and you can do that too if you so desire. You can also substitute it with another sugar you prefer. However, if you use pure fructose, cut down the quantity by a good 30% as it is a lot sweeter than other sugars :-) I hope this helps
hi im looking forward to making this. do you know how long this will last in the fridge?
+Samantha Downey It will last for a couple of days :)
If I were making chocolate custard, what type of chocolate would I use? Chopped or Dutch cocoa? How much? Thank you!
+Patti Tuohy I do that quite frequently actually! Just add in Dutch cocoa powder during the cooking process until it gets of a colour that satisfies you. I've never measured the chocolate in this case, so I can't say how much you need of it exactly. Thanks for watching
Can i use any plant base milk
Thumbs up good video
jjooeegg1 Thank you for watching, I hope you liked the video :-)
I made this custard, and it was pretty good, considering it's vegan and not made with any fat, cream, or eggs. The lemon zest kinda threw me off a bit, but it was an interesting texture lol I think the next time I make it, I will use vanilla flavor instead. Thanks for sharing this recipe!
Olivia I Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy the custard with the lemon zest, maybe you added too much? If you don't like the bits of lemon inside you can always strain it to make it smooth. Anyway vanilla work just as well, if not better, as it does chamomile, which is one of our favourite ;-) Thanks for watching and for leaving your feedback
The Vegan Corner Yes, I think I may have added too much lemon zest (I used from one whole lemon). Thanks for suggesting to strain it. It really is a nice, light and refereshing desert. I am gonna make some more today, using vanilla and a bit of cardamom. I just love sweets, and this one is guilt free. Thanks again! :)
Olivia I That's wonderful! I'm looking forward to know how it was with cardamom and vanilla, as I've never tried that combination myself. Thanks for your patience and for watching our videos ;-)
The Vegan Corner It actually came out delicious with the vanilla and cardamom! I ground up fresh cardamom pods and used a pinch of it, then added the vanilla extract. It was sooo yummy and I ate the whole thing lol. I also added a bit more organic cane sugar this time. Because of your recipe, I went to learn how to make my own oat milk, too. Amazing! I will be making this again soon .. and I will need to double the recipe lol :)
Olivia I I'm so happy to hear that! Thanks for letting me know, I'm now looking forward to try that combination myself :-) Next time I'll double the recipe too, as it might not be enough if you like it as much as we do :-) Thanks for watching as usual
Wow! 0 dislikes! (atleast until now) Hehe, you guys are THAT good :'D loved his recipe btw❤️
Malika Desai :) We do have some dislikes here and there, but I'm not sure if they are related to the actual recipe. Thanks for your comment
Ya not at all, the people disliking it are pretty much non-vegans who are against veganism. But Your recipes are amazing...you guys rock! I've recommended your channel to many of my relatives and friends. Good luck :D
Malika Desai Thank you so very much :D
Can I use this custard as filling for Vegan Lemon Pie?
Fiorella Carvajal Honestly i've never tried, but I wouldn't be too concerned about giving it a go! If you do try it, let me know how it turned out ;) thanks for watching
Is it possible to substitute the pay milk for almond milk?
+Nathalia Ruggeri Sure! Almond milk will work perfectly
Can we use this in Mille fueille?
It would be too thin for that, but the idea behind the recipe is the same so you can thicken it with more flour and then use it for a mille feuille.
Perfection! Where is your accent from? :)
+TianaCosmetics Haha, thanks my fellow CZcamsr ;) I'm Italian, but I've been living in Scotland for 6 years now so my accent is a bit strange.
+The Vegan Corner it's very intriguing to listen too! Love it.
+TianaCosmetics Thank you very much! :)
+The Vegan Corner I definitely picked up the hint of British in your accent!
is there a substitute for corn starch? would something like tapioca starch or xanthan gum work?
Louise Heiwood Tapioca starch will make the custard a bit more elastic and not very pleasant to eat, and xanthan gum is even worse. The only other good option I can think of right now would be all-purpose flour, but that will yield a non gluten-free final custard. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching :)
U could try potato starch
I was wondering if I can use almond milk instead? And, what if I don´t add the turmeric? Sorry for my questions, but it´s easter and no supermarket will be opened until Saturday, and I can´t wait :(
+Camila Lakah No worries :) Sure, almond milk will work just fine and also the turmeric is there just for the colour, so feel free to omit it. Thanks for watching
+The Vegan Corner thank YOU!
I never had custard before is it something you eat alone like a fruit pudding thing? It looks good
+iiavalanchei Yes, exactly like a pudding!
Ok I think I will make this eventually then is it okay to use liquid flavoring like orange juice instead of zest? I don't want to use orange zest because of possible pesticides as I don't buy organic fruit
I don't know if you tried the recipe yet but I would think you could if you use less milk.
Can you use potato starch instead? I'm allergic to corn
I'm really sorry to hear about your allergy. Absolutely- any starch will work! in fact, potato starch might work even better. Thanks for watching
Would adding more starch make the custard thicker?
Yes, it certainly will. However, starch is known to mess up with flavour, so the more of it you use it, the more it will cover the flavour of the other ingredients. I hope it helps.
@@thevegancorner Oooh thank you for your reply! I will keep it in mind. 💖 I'm thinking of using this recipe as filling for a no bake lemon bar! 🥰
Any alternative for turmeric?
Not really, unless you want to use saffron or food colouring. That being said, the turmeric is just for colour, so you can skip it and it won't change the flavour, although the final custard will be white and not yellow.
Um I have a question. Can I replace the cornstarch whit tapioca flour?
Erina363 You can, but tapioca flour tends to make sauces a bit more elastic. I just wanted you to know that before attempting to make the recipe. Thanks for watching
does this work well as a pie filling??
I've never personally tried so I can say. Probably if you make it thicker it will work nicely :)
I was wondering the same thing. Did you try it and if so how'd it go?
Why no lemon juice? Could lemon juice be added or would it actually taste better without it?
The acidity of lemon juice will completely impair the ability of the starch to thicken, and you will get a liquid sauce, rather than a custard.
If I want to make one of chocolate, should I use cocoa powder or chocolate? And how much?
I made it with chocolate flavour only a few times but never weighting the ingredients. I believe that for these quantities, 1 tsp of cocoa powder will suffice to give it a delicate chocolate flavour, and 1 tbsp will make it more flavoursome but much darker and thicker. in regard to regular chocolate, that could also work, but generally with this kind of custards cocoa powder is preferable, and should be mixed with the sugar or with the starch first to improve dispersion in the liquid during mixing. I hope this helps
The Vegan Corner thank you so much for your dedication! 💖💖💖 gonna try this tomorrow 😊
You are very welcome! I hope it turns out as good as I remember it ;)
I only have almond milk! Would it still turn out okay?
I was thinking the same thing...
+whiteshuggah it says in the description
I used it and it turn out amazing
can i use almond milk?
Yes, it's a great choice actually!
Oh my god yeeeees :D :D :D
silanthaler It seems that you liked this video :-D I hope you try the recipe too- it's special, really!
How. An I use vanilla in this ??? Instead of lemon ???
probs! did you try it?
can u put chocolate instead lemon?
Sure! I you look down in the comment there should be someone who already tried and got great results.
Why turmeric brah?
For colour, mate ;)
The Vegan Corner that makes sense I suppose. And that flavor doesn't over power it?
+Violet Evans Yes, you can't even taste it 👍
Livi Villacorta EXCELLENT! Then I might try it!
This looks so good! I actually just uploaded a vegan cornbread recipe, it's pretty much zero fat, I think you guys would like it! I used your recommendation of a soft box above the table! It doesn't look as good as your guys's videos, but it's better than before, so thank you! If you want to see it here's the link: How to Make Vegan Cornbread!
NoahGreeneCooking Happy to hear about the soft-box. I told you that videos are not going to look better only because you buy more equipment. It takes some time to get where you want to be. You are young and passionate and you'll surely manage to make whatever you desire, just give it some time, and remember to practice. Thanks for watching!
i really love you so much, tho i wish i can see you. i hope you make whipped cream one day. Thank you.
nina dobrev :) You are very kind. In case you are interested, there is a photo of me on our instagram page, but I'm afraid that's all about it for now. We appreciate your support a lot, thank you for that!
The Vegan Corner Thank you for feedback
Can I use honey instead of sugar?
+Ariadna111 Personally I've never tried, so I can't really say. However if forced to guess, I'd say that the substitution you've mentioned is possible. Thanks for watching
+The Vegan Corner Thank you so much. I tryed it and I loved it.
Uhm, honeyisntvegan uhm
Ariadna111 Thanks for letting us know! I'm glad you enjoyed the recipe so much :)
Hermy Frances I know it's not vegan. I'm not vegan. But honey is healthier then sugar (depending on the kind of sugar)
can I use cornflour instead of starch u used
+Veena Rafi Do you mean yellow corn flour or white corn flour?
+The Vegan Corner White corn flour is the same thing as cornstarch, so you can certainly use it for this recipe :) Thanks for watching!
+The Vegan Corner thanks a lot for your timely replies.. and for your recipe.
God, beautiful! ❤
Hi. If you add sugar to this recipe, how come it remains FAT FREE. U there?
Sugar contains zero fat, so it cannot add fat into the recipe.
The Vegan Corner
What? Then why everybody whats to avoid sugar? Why ladys avoid sugar o get in shape? Just want to knw. help
That's a good question and you might want to look into some science for that, as I'm no expert on nutrition. However, I consume massive amounts of sugar from fruit on a daily basis and I'm slim, really slim.
The Vegan Corner i am talking about sugar that u used some of your recipes. Those were regular sugar(processed sugar).
Processed sugar is not a heathy food, and no expert will tell you otherwise. In regard to weight gain, low-carb diets are pretty popular, which is why people tend to stay away from carbs of all sorts, processed or not, but that doesn't mean that they will make you fat. Once again, I'm no expert, so you might want to do your own research.
There is no turmic on your ingredients so i wont added
There is now :) Thank you!
