  • Three large ships came through the channel in a ten minute stretch. Each ship bigger than the previous, and building wave action.

      Reminds me of the time my wife had to drag me to the urgent care center after I got a 3” thorn stuck through my thumb. After 6 hours of pulling on it with pliers. Same thumb that I almost cut off with a fillet knife 6 months earlier. No ER visit on that one.

    Would have been nice to hear the sound of the water hitting the shore. Instead of the lame music completely overlaying the entire video

    • @ThirdCoastElectronics
      @ThirdCoastElectronics  Před rokem +2

      The lame music, (and yes, I agree, it’s lame), is much better than the wind noise. Wind was blowing directly across the channel that day. Some of the other videos have less lame music. I’ll post one for you with no music. Subscribe and share, and I’ll do the same.

    Noticed that waves of the second ship were taller but not as long as the third one .

    • @ThirdCoastElectronics
      @ThirdCoastElectronics  Před rokem +1

      The waves tend to bounce back off the bulkhead, over to opposite side of channel, and then back again. If the second ship passes through at the right time, it will combine with the first wave as it heads back across the channel. I think this one caught the wave traveling in opposite direction causing it to push up with less forward momentum.

    So what are the physics regarding the wave velocity, frequency, wavelength and number of waves per ship? Does the water recede before each wave, like with tsunamis? Can the displacement of the ship be totally mitigated by the design of the hull? So many questions.

    • @evanrutherfordlazyahole9079
      @evanrutherfordlazyahole9079 Před 2 lety +2

      I imagine the angle of the hull in the water has a major impact but how that effects wavelength and frequency is going to take Time to think about isn't second nature to me... yet.

    • @ThirdCoastElectronics
      @ThirdCoastElectronics  Před 2 lety

      Yes all of that, but there are so many details that it’s nearly impossible to predict without using one of those magic box things with the tappy tappy click click. Basically, if the water recedes, it’s going to push a wave. I’ll post a video from different location later today.

    so nice waves , but really wouldn't consider them large .

    • @ThirdCoastElectronics
      @ThirdCoastElectronics  Před 3 měsíci

      Progressively larger. As in the second is larger than first. I didn’t call these large waves. Though they are a lot bigger than they look on camera.

    • @ThirdCoastElectronics
      @ThirdCoastElectronics  Před měsícem

      We don’t have those kinds of tidal surges here in this area. Our tides are always a gradual transition, unless there’s a TS/Hurricane or strong cold front. All these ships came through within a 10 minute timeframe. One after another.

    This is why Vancouver bc is losing Stanley Park it has nothing to do with rogue waves etc. producing high tides . They are not telling the whole story as shipping is making some people rich. Not the same people that enjoy Stamley Park obviously.

      @@ThirdCoastElectronics Those Big LNG tankers should be throwing a huge wave no matter what. 2 years ago I got on video a guy surfing the qtr waves. It is on Port A shutterbugs but again it was 2 years ago.

    • @ThirdCoastElectronics
      @ThirdCoastElectronics  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, I just drove down there, and one of the ships that came through pushed a wave up over the road. About half way down the bulkhead.

    • @racer_11c45
      @racer_11c45 Před rokem +1

      Back I. 2016 I was at the pier in the channel, Harvey removed it, but the qtr wave cleared the pier, and well everyone that was not watching it for about 400 feet north of the pier. And that was a 250m long 42m wide tanker.
