A wholesome beauty with comedic appeal, Dawn Elberta Wells was born on October 18, 1938 in Reno, Nevada. Wells' childhood was a happy and healthy one. She and her mother grew their own fruits and vegetables in their gardens and Dawn rode horses. In her high school years, she was the class treasurer, President of the debate team and an honor roll student. Dawn was on her way to becoming a ballerina, but bad knees prevented her from realizing the dream. She was Miss Nevada in 1959 and went on to the 1960 Miss America Pageant. Dawn had wanted to be a doctor, and enrolled in the elite Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri to study medicine, but then she discovered the Drama Club. She then transferred to the University of Washington, which was known for their Theatre Department, and she graduated with a Degree in Theatre.
Dawn moved to Hollywood and was cast as Mary Ann Summers on CBS's Gilligan's Island (1963). The rest is history. However, there was much more to Dawn than her simple Mary Ann character. Wells refused to be an unemployed actor after the show ended and was never out of work since the show decades ago. She performed in over 66 theatrical productions, including the National Touring Company of "They're Playing Our Song!" She did countless voice-overs, commercials and talk shows. She worked for the Australian news show "Midday" and interviewed such talents as Julia Roberts, Eddie Murphy and Tom Hanks, to name a few. Dawn has also had great success as a producer and has a number of television movies to her credit. After years of touring and performing in dramas, comedies, and musical theatre, Dawn slowed down a little. In 1998, she founded the Dawn Wells' Film Actors Boot Camp in Driggs, Idaho. The camp is for the already trained actor looking to make the transition from the amateur to the professional actor.
Wells managed the camp for many years. She has been in a popular commercial for Western Union, capitalizing on her character Mary Ann Summers. In 2003, Dawn did tours of the plays "Love Letters" with Adam West and Eve Ensler's Award Winning "The Vagina Monologues." In early 2004, Dawn established and founded The Spud Film Institute in Idaho and Wyoming, and held the first ever Spud Drive in Film and Music Festival in the summer of 2004. She was also the artistic director of the festival. If that is not enough, Ms. Wells also had her own clothing line for the physically challenged called "Wishing Wells Collections" and she recently launched her own skin care line, Classic Beauty. Dawn Wells continued to contribute to the business she loved so much and constantly gave back to the acting community. She mentored young actors and traveled to colleges all across the United States to teach Master Classes. She served as Artist in Residence at several Universities. Dawn was in constant demand for personal appearances and speaking engagements, yet never forgot to give back to the Artistic community.
Wells died from COVID-19-related causes in Los Angeles, on December 30, 2020, at age 82, during the COVID-19 pandemic in California. The week prior to her death, she recorded a Happy New Year video to be released on the holiday. Dawn Wells’ grave is at Mountan View Cemetery in Reno, Nevada.
Thanks!
Wow thank you so much for your generosity Karen! Very very appreciated ❤️❤️
The grave stone says she’ll call her mom when she gets there- thus the phone! Thanks Scott!😊
Yup I was going to post that , Scott just said call me when you get there on the grave and there is a phone
I loved that show growing up in the 70s.
She seemed like such a nice lady. Thanks for taking us to her grave. Rest in peace Dawn aka Mary Ann.
Yes I agree and a great show I remember watching Gilligan's Island in 1972when I was 6.
The phone is so she can call when she gets there!
Loved Gillian’s Island as a kid in the 80s. So many fun episodes. ❤
What a sweet, beautiful headstone. Love the photos. ❤❤ May she and her mama rest peacefully together.
So beautifully done Scott. I actually got to meet Dawn Wells when I was in high school. I was in the high school marching band. She appeared at 1 of the competitions we performed at. It was such an incredible honor to meet her. Such a sweet person. She was dearly loved & is so incredibly missed. Well done Scott.
I started watching in the 60's. One of my favorite shows. Enjoyed the video Scott. Rest easy Mary Ann. Gone but not forgotten.🌺🌺
Wonder if someone put a phone there because of what the gravestone says, "I'll call you when I get there" ❤
The phone caught my attention too and I love your idea and I think you're right...what got me about the phone was how they used coconuts on strings to talk to each other lol
Gilligan's Island was definitely part of my childhood past!!!♥️
Loved the show, Mary Ann was beautiful. Their grave is beautiful as well. R.I.P Mother and Daughter.💐🌹💐🌹
Hi, Scott!
I love the way you present these videos. They're informative, yet done with respect to the person you're paying tribute to.
I grew up with that show
Gilligan’s Island was one of the dumbest shows ever BUT it’s also one of the greatest comfort shows ever. If I’m feeling really down and depressed, Gilligan and his goofy friends are guaranteed to make me feel better and remember what it was like to be a kid. So many happy memories.
My grandmother's couch and cambells chicken soup with crackers on sick days from school, watching Gilligan and the gang!! Some of the best memories of childhood!!
It is geniusly dumb!
I love Gilligan's Island. The dumbest show ever made was Seinfeld. Now that show was dumb
@@annmariemcleod6670right
I loved the show. It wasn’t dumb. It was comedy, entertainment.
Great Tribute to miss wells RIP Mary Ann 😢❤. She was always a hott looking woman. I had the Hotts for her, loved Gilligan's Island.
'I'll call you when I get there'. The phone near the stone is for that call, or signifying that call. So sad. So much loss in the last few years.
RIP Dawn Wells as Mary Ann
The professor could build a radio out of coconuts but he couldn't patch a few holes in a boat? How come their clothes never fell apart or got dirty? LoL. Yes Maryann was my favorite, that's when I knew I was straight when I was 7 or 8. LoL She was so beautiful, Tan, and so sweet, Great Video Scott!!!
LOL! I was too little and never thought of all that! That’s hilarious! 😂
Hahaha funny 🤣
She still looks good
Dawn was a sweetheart. I got to know her and Dreama Denver at an event that became an annual event. Each year we couldn't wait to not only see other, but other Stars. We became family! It broke our hearts when we got the word she had passed away. Such a beautiful friend. Thank you for sharing where she was laid to rest.
I watched any day I was home sick as a kid! Maryann was my favorite on the show! Thank you Scott once again for the quality work you do! ❤
I remember I first watched it in1972, when I was 6.Sad she passed away May Dawn Wells,RIP💐
We were lucky enough to see her in a traveling musical here in Sacramento California. She was great.
What people liked about her was her natural beauty, and her olive colored skin, that marks a real beauty I have watched quite a few channels that have covered her graveside, but as usual you have hit the mark, and have presented a very well researched video and the usual flair for truth, this is why I like your channel the best. Be safe on your travels God bless you
Thank you so much 😊

Good Evening Scott 🙋🏽. I truly hope you had a awesome day ‼️ Thank You for inviting me to watch your video ❤🙋🏽
Rest in Heavenly Paradise to Dawn Wells. Rest Well Mary Ann.
Hi, Scott! The phone is for her to "call her mother when she gets there"
OX
Maybe the phone is there because the tombstone said "I'll call you when I get there"
Yup, I watched Gilligan’s Island too as a kid, plus adulthood as well . That was the era of good comedy . We also had I Dream of Jeannie, Brady Bunch, Bewitched and the Partridge Family ( I had such a crush on David Cassidy ). 😂😂😂😂 Wish I could go back to those times, sitting around the TV and watching these shows with my folks .
I always thought Dawn Wells was a down to earth beautiful lady .
I watched reruns of Gilligan’s Island as a child ! It was the best ! Rest in Peace Mary Ann! 🙏🏽
Those were some wonderful after school times, watching Gilligans Island and The Brady Bunch. Mary Ann and the Skipper was my favorites. Ty, for this video. I did not know she had passed. 😢
I think the phone is there because of the inscription on the gravestone "I'll call you when I get there." Just a thought, may be wrong. Thank you for visiting these actors from my past. Always done with so much info and respect.
Yes lol
She was so beautiful
I was a little, little kid when I watched that show. I didn’t appreciate how pretty she was. Thank you for the video!
She was a true Beauty! RIP
Met her in T.O. at the Intl. Boat Show. VERY lovely lady. Took pictures fot free when most charge. Happy Hanukkah Scott!
You are so generous thank you Amanda! And so glad to hear Dawn was sweet!

Watch it it’s on all the time
That is my mother’s name, I just lost her a year ago. It made me smile to see the name Vickie. Thank you for that.
Gilligan's Island was one of my most enjoyable shows as a child of the 60s. I laughed a lot and My most favorite of the cast was Dawn Wells...❤
Another beautiful woman...Gone 😍
Thank You Scott for doing this video. Very Nice & Respectful. She looked so good up until her death & I feel she was taken away so soon. She was a beautiful, lovely & amazing lady. RIP Dawn Wells💜🙏
"I'll call you when I get there". That's the reason for the phone.
When my youngest son was 3,4,5 up to 6 i had to lay down EVERY NIGHT an watch Gilligan’s Island with him hes 15 now i have a video of him at 4 singing the hole song an i love it
It says on the stone "I'll call you when I get there." hence the phone. That's the only reason I can think of anyway. Thanks for looking for her grave site. She was a wonderful person!
LOVED Gilligan's Island. So cheesy now when rewatching it, but as a kid it was so funny and goofy.
Mary Ann was one of my favorite characters. The Skipper is the other.
Very beautiful.
Totally unrelated to Gilligan's Island.
But anyone remember the show "Flipper".
Used to like that series as well.
Hi Scott ❤I absolutely love Gilligan's Land it break my heart when I hear about her may she rest in peace 🙏

👉Grew up with the Show! 😊👊✊ - one of my favorite TV shows! 👍👌 - My Childhood! 😆
RIP Dawn Wells 😔 MaryAnne. 🍁
I watched Gilligan's Island everyday after elementary school from 1974-1979
It's so unreal to see this video. I met Dawn at Hollywood Show Chicago. She was so kind and a very sweet lady. I was so saddened when she passed away. I'm an 80's/ 90's kid and we had lots of reruns on tv. Gilligan's Island was always a good watch. I never thought I'd be lucky enough to ever meet anybody from the show. I'm glad I was able to meet her and a list of others from TV and Movies. RIP Dawn and thanks for the video Scott!
Thanks!Scott, your knocking the episodes out of the park .i can tell this will be a great one ❤
You are so sweet thank you so much Ms. Zahn ❤️❤️
@@SCOTTONTAPEyour welcome Scott
So she COULD CALL HER MOMMA WHEN SHE GOT THERE - Ya silly goose ! ❤ Ya Scott ! ✌️ Out !
Hey Thanks Big Brother...I liked seeing that.
Loved Gilligan's Island
Idk if anyone else wrote it. But Scott just said or read that she said "God Bless you Mom, I will call you when I get there". Seems legit why the phone would be there . Awesome video, Scott.
I'M A GAL FROM THE VERY EARLY 70'S & I WATCHED FAITHFULLY ALONG W/ THE REST HOGANS HEROS, GUN SMOKE ETC..... SHE SEEMED TO HAVE AGED NATURALLY & GRACEFULLY. I REMEMBER HER COMMERCIALS DIDN'T KNOW ABT HER DIFFERENT LINES. SHE LED A VERY FRUITFUL LIFE.WE SHARE THE SAME BIRTHDAY. R.I.E.P MOTHER & DAUGHTER
I guessed 7 yrs seemed like it was on a long long time. Can't believe it was only 3 wow !!
The re-runs that I watched while growing up were the original Star Trek series and Gilligan's Island. Both 3 season series, but we've still got a treasure trove of episodes with networks then producing 20+ episodes a season. I still would catch Gilligan's Island on TNT in-between classes in college. After this remembrance, I now want to gather the series. I was team Mary Ann: she was the girl next door and beautiful inside and out.
I had a crush on her for decades and till this day still watch the reruns on TV. Icon she was and remembered forever as Maryanne❤
I met her at a convention many years ago and she was bright and kind. May she R.I.P.
Used to watch Gilligan's Island, good show. Beautiful gravestone, with her mother - not often I've seen parent and child sharing the same birth date, that I am aware of at least. May Dawn rest in peace.
@12:00 "Somebody brought a phone" YESSSSSS SCOTT!!!!! She was stuck on a Island man! She finally got the phone to call somebody and get off the Island lol
Growing up as a young man in the 60’s, I had a huge crush on Dawn. I actually had the pleasure of meeting her in the early 1970’s. What a down to earth, empathetic woman she was.
I watched it so long ago. that I was anxiously waiting to see if they would get rescued.
Very sweet and interesting. May she Rest in Peace 🙏
Natalie Schaefer (Lovey Howell) was 65 years old when she was in GI, she was actually 13 years older than Jim Backus.
Mrs. Howell was a cougar.
