  • The Chase Bliss Habit is DEEP and we are going ALL IN!
    ...well maybe not all in but we are definitely covering a lot.
    In this video, we will cover the basics and walk through the relationship between Habit's 3-minute memory and the echo algorithm so you can get the most out of this generative soundscape leviathan!
    We will also cover a functional explanation of the In/Out/Feed switch, who this pedal might be for, pros and cons, as well as hear some examples of what the Chase Bliss Habit can do.
    Let me know down in the comments what you thought of the video.

    Thank you so much for doing this - your break down of the spread and scan knobs is what I’ve been hoping someone might do, answering my question- whether it might be able to do something similar to the Soma Labs Cosmos - a drifting multiple loop. It certainly seems to be capable of something along those lines.
    Thanks again 🙏

      So happy you found it useful. It took me a while to understand how the Habit worked at first. It's good to know this is useful for others as well. A drifting multi-loop seems very possible. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Cheers!

    • @georgebaylis7161
      @georgebaylis7161 Před 2 lety +1

      @@sirjaunty1 it definitely wouldn’t be quite so straightforward - the Cosmos looks very user friendly. Although having been using a Blooper for a few months, once you’ve got your head round the various functions, it’s pretty straightforward to lock in to favourite themes and this seems similar in some ways. It definitely wouldn’t be able to everything the Cosmos can, but then it’s got other things the Cosmos hasn’t…….I’m definitely more tempted by the Habit now though

    Probably the best overview of the Habit. I would just love to play one some day to try it out, because I am definitely not sure if it would be worth 480€ when I already got the Blooper and the Mood lying around. However, it looks sooo good...

      Hey that’s for watching and the kind words.
      Yeah these things aren’t cheap lol. Its been on my shelf for a while no but when I do bust it out it’s definitely a lot of fun and it can really take you to some unexpected places. Inspiration for days. I haven’t played with mood or blooper yet but I have heard great things. Hoping to check them out someday.
      Maybe you could try one through a pedal rental service?
      Hope you can try one soon.

    I’m blown away by the Habit. Have been enjoying playing with it this past while. You don’t need a midi box at all. You can easily wire your own MIDI cable if you search around the net. Chase bliss wire their TRS midi differently so be aware…

    great vid mate. the only thing I'd change is somewhat uninteresting sounds you chose to use to demonstrate some of the capabilities of the pedal. I understand why you chose to do that, but I feel there's some cool common ground between illustrative yet pleasant sounds and simple, unattractive sounds. not sure if I explained my thoughts clearly enough. take care.

    • @SecondhandSynth
      @SecondhandSynth  Před 2 lety +1

      Lol yeah I’m hindsight I totally agree. Was trying to keep it clean and simple and it takes forever to record and edit so I guess I got lazy instead of just re-recording it. I’ll try to do better on the next go around.
      Feedback is much appreciated. Thank you so much. 🙏🙏🙏

    • @SecondhandSynth
      @SecondhandSynth  Před 2 lety +1

      I think you could achieve this in Ableton with two loopers and a delay fx chain no problem.
      Some modulation/filter in there or even add in other effects not in the Habit. I don’t actually think it would be that difficult.

  • @stolencoats63
    @stolencoats63 Před 2 lety

    Does it stay in time when it loops around at the 3 minute mark of buffer recording? I feel like it's gonna randomly shift off the initial grid even though the technical timing/tempo will be the same.

    • @SecondhandSynth
      @SecondhandSynth  Před 2 lety

      As far as I know, the tempo syncs the delay time which is sort of post "ping" 1&2 of the 3 min memory buffer. I believe it also syncs the built-in LFO. With that said, the memory buffer is 3 minutes and is not adjustable. So, I would think of the memory playback as almost its own sound source and doesn't really tempo sync... unless you are in easily divisible increments of 180 seconds. If that makes sense.

      @stolencoats63 Před 2 lety +1

      @@SecondhandSynth exactly, and it is the reason a lot of other vids failed a little for me, because the Habit inherently is composing so much, it takes a simple example to get to what it is doing… again thanks 🙏🏼 i am looking forward to seeing how you play, demo, and review other gear.

    • @SecondhandSynth
      @SecondhandSynth  Před rokem

      If the settings aren't too extreme then yeah that can be pretty interesting. It can get a bit cluttered and noisy just from all the new elements being introduced on top of old ones at no particular order. But its worth experimenting with for sure.

    No need to buy the Chase Bliss MIDI Box, you can just make the cables yourself by using a TRS connector to MIDI and wiring Ring and Sleeve only

    I know this is old but i tried your setup of flipping the scan and spread dipswitches, but when i set the scan knob to about the 3.5 second mark i dont hear anything at that point. It only comes in at the highest delay setting time? Do you have anything else set up like other dip switches in the back or anything?
