      Great run Danny. I've followed the OoT speedrun scene since around 2018 with ZFG and heard about you a few years back. Despite the death, this is super impressive. I've never done a speedrun of this game, but this almost makes me wanna try and speedrun this category...

    You have to acknowledge the professionalism that Danny had during this run. Goes to show that something might happen as unintended during your run, but can still pull one hell of a run in 23 minutes. Hoping GDQ showcases more of his runs in the near future. Greetings from this first-time commenter, full-time lurker.

      How they found those glitches? I can't believe someone finding, they connect the game to a computer and find failures and bugs or how they get to that specific situations?

    • @unknownone5314
      @unknownone5314 Před 4 dny +1

      @chefcito0199 it's possible they use software to find glitches but another possibility is that there are communities of speedrunners for games that share glitches to help their speeding. It's also been a bit since the game has released, so more time to find more skips and share with community

      @@chefcito0199 The games age and the awesome dedication put into it from the community. People will eventually turn a game inside out, using different tools, looking at code, testing all kinds of different things just to see what works. It's a fun hobby.

    When I saw the 23:20 time on the video I knew something must have happened during the run and I was just praying Danny got Ganonfloor first try. Kind of amazing he pulled off one of the most difficult tricks ever found in the game, and then died to the boss, but no big deal. The tower escape was just a victory lap and gave them more time to explain stuff.

    At any point in this run, do they ever explain what "SRM" is? I know this is a No SRM run, but it still would have been nice to explain that to the viewers for context. As of what I've picked up from this, SRM allows you to warp to the credits, but nothing more. All I needed was someone to say "Stale Reference Manipulation", and talk about the differences in routes.

    • @Borodalf
      @Borodalf Před 4 dny +7

      SRM or Stale Reference manipulation is the most powerful glitch ever discovered for OoT. It allows pretty much anything included full arbitrary code execution where you can execute any code you want. The problem with explaining it is the glitch is extremely complicated as to how it and why it works and what it does is a whole video by itself.

    • @nallesounds5074
      @nallesounds5074 Před 4 dny +13

      Yo another OoT runner here and I can with utmost confidence say that trying to explain what SRM is in a fast and concise manner without creating even more questions is impossible, it's not gonna happen in under 3 minutes so it's very understandable that they opted to focus on what the run is actually going to do instead of going over what it wont do

    • @eveneveneveneven
      @eveneveneveneven Před 4 dny +6

      @@nallesounds5074I have never heard about it, but it sounds to me like it would be sufficient to say "SRM is Stale Reference Manipulation, which in short means you can manipulate the game data and do pretty much anything."

    • @joeschmoe5063
      @joeschmoe5063 Před 3 dny +4

      They did mention the most important part is that it is used to perform a credits warp which for the average viewers that's all they need to know.

    • @iankrasnow5383
      @iankrasnow5383 Před 3 dny

      It's a glitch discovered in 2019 that lets you manipulate memory and even do arbitrary code execution. It has some interesting uses in 100% runs like giving link anti-gravity boots, but no one really runs SRM categories anymore because the short categories are too short to be very interesting and the long categories are stuck in routing hell. And there's other old ways to do a credits warp, so that's not even really the most interesting use case.
      Look up the Ocarina of Time TAS from SGDQ 2022 for the most amazing thing you've ever seen at a Games Done Quick event. I'm not even exaggerating.
