Motorhoming Northern Spain - Cares Gorge Hike

- At 1km deep this hike through the spectacular Cares Gorge will amaze you. This was the first of 17 days Motorhoming Northern Spain We combine our hike with an off road 4x4 nature tour to create a spectaular circular day trip. Part 3 with the 4x4 tour is coming soon.
The hike is about 8 miles and apart from the first section is flat so easy going, there are many vertical drops of many hundreds of feet so you need to stay away from the edge, the path is a least 8ft wide all the way so no need to be worried.
If you want to walk the gorge just one way then combining it with a tour is an excellent and cost effective way to do this, at €30 each (2019) it was cheaper than a taxi

Looks like a fabulous walk... not for the faint of heart. Amused that there is a fence to protect you from falling in the water but not from falling over the cliff! LOL.
Jeff Thiessen 🤣🤣 I know.. how crazy is that!! In parts of the walk, the gorge is a kilometre deep 😆

Amazing hike! I can recall perfectly the first time I did it nearly 35 years back. The road from Cain To LE-2703 road was wide enough to allow only one vehicle at a time except for some widenings at some points. Now 2 vehicles can pass at same time nearly at any point. Some interesting data: the Cares route is done by around 200k people every year. Even though is a dangerous route, less than a person a year died on it, mainly by falling down the abyss. At 6:18 you can see a section of the path that collapsed some years ago, and fell down the river. Now made on wood and metal.
Interesting information there 👍 It had been on our radar to do when we saw it in a book many years ago. I think you'd need to be acting recklessly to fall ( my filming was done with a long selfie stick, I wasn't walking on the edge😀) I think I see the path that collapsed at 6:18, just a thin slither of something dark. I just wanted to say thank you for this series of videos on Northern Spain. We're taking our motorhome over there later this year for a three week tour and your videos have given us lots of ideas of places to camp, bike rides and walks to do and places to eat. Thanks, this hike was the reason we chose to holiday in Northern Spain. It had been on the todo list for a number of years. We've found a few more gems to visit while we are here too :)
