    ICED TEA TIPS
    DON’T use crappy tea
    DON’T oversteep your tea
DON’T add sugar to cold tea
DON’T put tea into the refrigerator until it’s cool - it will result in
    cloudy tea
DON’T make too much in advance. Iced tea is best when it’s fresh.
    Classic Iced Tea
    6 black tea bags
    8 cups hot water
    1 lemon, zested and sliced
    ¼ honey (optional)
    1 cup hot water (optional)
    ice
Using a vegetable peeler, peel the zest of one lemon being careful not to get the white rind which is quite bitter.
Add the lemon zest and tea bags to hot water and stir.
Allow the tea to steep for 5 minutes.
Remove the tea bags and the zest and allow the tea to cool
    completely.
For sweetened iced tea, add hot water to honey and stir until the honey is completely dissolved. Allow the mixture to cool completely.
In a pitcher combine ice and lemon slices.
Add tea and honey mixture and stir thoroughly.
    Enjoy!
    Raspberry Peach Iced Tea
6 tea bags (I used rooibos)
    8 cups hot water
    ¼ honey (optional)
    1 cup hot water (optional)
    4 ripe peaches, sliced
    1 cup fresh raspberries
    ice
Add tea bags to hot water and stir.
Allow the tea to steep for 5 minutes.
Remove the tea bags and allow the tea to cool completely.
For sweetened iced tea, add hot water to honey and stir until the honey is completely dissolved. Allow the mixture to cool completely.
In a pitcher combine ice, peach slices and raspberries.
Add tea and honey mixture and stir thoroughly.
For best results, allow tea to infuse with flavor for 1-2 hours before
    serving.
    Enjoy!
    Mojito-Inspired Iced Tea
    6 green tea bags
    8 cups hot water
    ¼ cup superfine sugar (optional)
    1 cup hot water (optional)
    3 limes
    10-12 mint leaves
    ice
Using a vegetable peeler, peel the zest of one lime being careful not to get the white rind which is quite bitter.
Add the lime zest and tea bags to hot water and stir.
Allow the tea to steep for 5 minutes.
Remove the tea bags and the zest and allow the tea to cool completely.
For sweetened iced tea, add hot water to sugar and stir until the honey is completely dissolved. Allow the mixture to cool completely.
In a pitcher combine ice and lime slices and mint.
Add tea and sugar mixture and stir thoroughly.
For best results, allow tea to infuse with flavor for 1-2 hours before serving.
    Enjoy!

Melanie A. Hicks to me unsweetened tea is like water but better. Its highly addictive. I'll also take tea sweetened with honey because honey has a floral taste.

    • @jonathandpg6115
      @jonathandpg6115 Před 7 lety +18

you might have tried black tea which is a bit more bitter. I suggest you try a white tea. Those are my favorite to suggest to new tea drinkers. You can add even cold steep it and add fruits it's delicious. Although I like southern tea it contains a LOT of sugar so you can't drink much of it. While tea (without sweetner) can totally replace water as it is flavored water with no additives.

I remember I made this classic ice tea once when I was little and when I got to the step of taking the teabags and zest out, I thought it would be a good idea to do it with a sieve, so I got a bowl to catch the tea when it went through the sieve. I started to pour the jug of tea through the sieve.
I got half way until I realised
I forgot to put the bowl under the sieve.

I would use the white sugar sweetener in the black tea recipes and the honey sweetener in the green tea recipes because green tea is extremely healthy and natural so adding the honey will compliment it more compared to the processed white sugar, which in my opinion compliments black/English tea better.

Using loose tea leaves instead of teabags isn't more expensive and often give better results. =) And there's another way to make homemade iced tea: leaving the tea leaves/teabags infusing in cold water for at least an hour, then taking off the teabags/tea leaves and add sweeteners. This method works also for infusions (mint, chamomile, rose, hibiscus,...). However, thanks for the recipes! I'll try the peach-rasberry one, maybe with white tea instead of rooibos, it looks delicious!

Bottles of Ice tea from retail is nothing more than high concentrated sugar drink. If you do it at home you can either leave out the sugar or add just a little.

Try a shorter boiling time for the tea. As a personal rule, I never leave black tea longer than 30s in the water. After that the bitterness will get more pronounced. I usually dip a tea bag into the water until it is soaked and then pull it out and let the water rinse back in the cup/bowl and repeat that a few times. You'll see, 20..30s with that method is plenty to make a dark colored aromatic tea which is not bitter. With this style of round tea bags as shown in this video, just use a skimmer to pull out multiple bags of the bowl. Try until color is like amber for a not to strong flavor and experiment from there.

you have to not over steap your tea. If it says 4 minutes you have to have the bags removed by 4 minutes. Don't forget flavors get dull when cold
