Lol im in
I was given these tips some 36 years ago from a gentlemen by the name of Kenny Shae. I had arrived in Halifax Nova Scotia, and joined one of the city pool leagues. Kenny (our team captain) had coached me into using these techniques shown in this video, but on the pool tables. It is nice to see how Stephen took it a step farther and applied them to snooker, where the difficulty level was much greater.
Much like Stephen's approach, Kenny had instilled upon me the philosophy of "If your opponent can't touch the cue ball, they can't beat you". Thus I began to break open tough ball locations, creating my own second break if my opponent failed to break properly, etc. Kenny even had me practice on snooker tables prior to my pool tournaments and league play. [Fun fact] when you practice on pockets that barely allow ping pong balls, pool table "sloppy" pockets provide endless opportunities to juice your cue ball and play better cue ball tactics.
This was a well put together video, and whether snooker or billiards or pool is your jam, i highly recommend you subscribe.
Thanks to BFL for this great reminder of days gone by. Keep up the great work. !
I remember watching him as a kid. Never really played snooker but the little I know I've learned from him. Even if you knew nothing about the game you could still see what a master he was.
He played to win that for sure. "Only way to control the game is being at the table". Yep. That was him.
Great video. People forget how good Hendry was. He's the greatest of all time.
Well said. Real snooker fans know this.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. The majority say Ronnie is. Even Stephen hendry says Ronnie is.
@@christiano8088 and Ronnie says stephen is the best, so…
@@ellenmaes2480 well they just had a conversation online and Henry said ‘as long as I’m in the conversation, that’s all that matters’, going on the say that Jack Nicklaus said that when asked about Tigers Woods and himself in golf.
@@christiano8088 Hendry was the most dominant force in Snooker. 5 WC’s in a row, 5 masters in a row. Triple crown in 2 different years, 8 years at no.1 never out of the top 16. Ronnie can’t touch those stats dominance wise.
"That's why he's the greatest.Just when you think you've seen all he produces another magical moment here at he crucible" -2012 world championship 147 break by stephen hendry
I played him as a kid in Spencer’s club in Stirling.. I managed to pot 1 red and missed the blue.. never got another shot 😂... I did manage to get a foto with Stephen and the world trophy on my head 👍🏻.. great videos mate 👍🏻
I Used to play up at Broxburn. Nice comment to read :)
Hendry is REAL GENIUS!!!
Truer words were never spoken
Hendry the GOAT....he changed the game and ensured all professionals play same forever
Sir, these practise routines are helping my game.
Love watching Hendry, love watching your videos. Emulating your shots is a little tough on my 100+ year old table with poor cushions and cloth that someone put on knap backwards. Still we try. Cheers from Pincher Creek in Southern Alberta, Canada.
It's all about percentage play at the end of the day although there are always a lot of factors to consider and it mostly comes down to intuition from being in similar spots hundreds of times. eg. you have to think about how likely you'll win the frame by playing a shot vs the likelyhood of losing and then compare it with your chances of winning by playing a safety shot.
In some cases it's correct to go for the shot that has LESS chance of winning you the frame too. This is all because of variance. In the example you gave about Hendry - it was arguably a shot that would have been the wrong choice to play if the scores were level because you'd expect to miss it more than 50% of the time and gift the game to your opponent. However, when you are 14-9 down to 18 your chance of winning the match is already low. If you play % and low variance snooker, you are less likely to come back and win. You need to play high variance - take risks on some shots. This will give you the most chance of coming back to try and win the match - and is ultimately what he ended up doing.
What a magnificent head-on video. I am deeply impressed.
That is an excellent video mate! Thank you for your insightful help!
I hope you do well in Vancouver this year!

Not a Snooker player myself but stumblet upon to your vid, I think I have to give this sport a shot! Good job!
Wow, I can't believe how truly useful and informative this video is. Great job!
I don’t even play Snooker, but love these videos.
👍🏼
Excellent video! A concise analysis of Hendry’s game. He definitely paved the way for modern snooker that we all know and love today.
Greetings from Cebu City, Philippines. Cheers!

I started watching snooker long after Stephen's best years ended, so this insightful video helps me understand what exactly was so special about his game. Thanks a lot for your work!
Thanks for this video loving the new uploads
I am from peshawar paksitan. I loved your way of teaching ❤️
I'm only 28 but I remember him back in the 90s. He was so good.
Great video and thank you ! I will definitely try these next time !
Thoroughly enjoyed.... from an ole` bugga who used to make an earn as a kid around the rooms.
OMG this is one of the best snooker videos i have ever seen in my life. Subscribed -- from Brazil, São Paulo.
Yes, in his prime, Snookers ultimate winning machine, he made close to 500 centuries only in the 90's, in an era with much less tournaments than today...His decline was not because of the yips like he sometimes claims but because he had achieved everything he wanted, started to pursue other interest and brought down his daily training regime.
Pleasure watching you play, analyse , talk and give tips!!! I top out at about 50-60 so if you want a real challenge... don’t call me!!!
Wow. I think I learned more about how to practice from this video than any other video I have ever watched. Thanks.
Only guy to score 147 vs Ronnie.... tht match was like clash of titans and hendry pulled it out with a max break. In his prime he was a lethal weapon
Hendry was quite brilliant, for me still the best ever, but I don't think getting a 147 in a match that happened to be against Ronnie has any bearing on anything.
In the deciding frame in the final when he had just lost 6 frames on the bounce.
@Craig Yates I stand corrected.
@@tonyb9735 the 1997 Victoria Challenge Charity Trophy. Deciding frame, indeed after losing 6 on the trot, Ronnie breaks off, tight against the cushion, Hendry being frozen out over 6 frames takes on an extremely ridiculous tough and dangerous red, certainly against a player like O' Sullivan and plays it without any safety in mind, attempting to hold for the black. He gets the pot, holds for the black and the rest is 147 history :P
@@woudwilder8324 Not sure that has any bearing on my comment, I acknowledged him as the best ever. What more do you want? Should I bend over in front of him and wiggle seductively?
Wonderful video, Thank you.
What an informative video , thanks mate.
Greetings from Ripon Yorkshire Really interesting video, your videos are helping me to dominate the game. Subscribed with notifications on.
haven't played snooker in years!! but after stumbling on this that might change!
love your humility
Absolutely fascinating!!! Thanks.
Snooker is such a fantastic game. So many characters with talent and determination.
Stephen Hendry is one of the all time greats. Obviously I wanted Jimmy to win, he was the coolest player ever but Hendry was just phenomenonal.
Jimmy should have won in 92 and 94. He bottled it.
I think that was the problem though he new if he made a mistake he would loose the frame
Nice video! Very helpful as always
I'm loving your videos! Greetings from Leskovac, Serbia!
Hi, David from Lawrence, NSW Australia here.
I quite enjoy your videos, and as an established top A grade player I think you are explaining the basics very well, very well thought out videos.
If I was learning I would come to this channel for the best advice on how to improve I've yet seen.
As a fellow long time player, I agree with a great deal of your lessons, and many of the practice routines you show are ones I do myself very often. Mr Hendry is who I modelled myself on personally, and it served me very well. Ronnie took it to another level, but I am 6 years older than Ronnie and it was Stephen's approach that I copied as best I could.
I concentrated on being very good at awkward shots, such as long pots of all types, cuing from on the cushion, over balls and using all of the equipment. As I was playing defensive players I often found myself in these positions, and being able to pot your way out or play a strong safety from these positions gave me an edge.
That, and Stephens mental approach are what I took from him, and it made me very difficult to beat, I was never out of a game until the last ball went in.
Kudo's, and keep making this great content. Cheers.
awesome vid! best ive seen..thankyou 👍👍
Great videos, made me wanted to practice again because you give very interresting routines. You can add Belgium on your map if it's not done yet ! :)
Stephen hendry's is the greatest player off all time, his break building is fantastic 🙂
Ronnie O’Sullivan killed off Hendry and took the game on.
You are the only in the world who choose him over Ronnie.
5555555555/55555
I remember Ronnie saying he was going to send Hendry back to his sad little life in Scotland. Hendry then beat him 17-13 in the world semi final 😂
Hendry won 7 world titles before 30, Ronnie is now 44 and he’s just reached 6.
Hendry was by far the best
MANUTD4LIFE171 he won them before 30 because the standard was far poorer.
what a great channel you got here. great job bro. thumbs up
Great video as always.

Excellent video on Hendry - but great ideas for practice too - so often I get bogged down with line-up after line-up. I'll defo try some of the long pot routines including the dreaded bulk cushion long pot. - Thanks !!!!!
Yeah that’s never the easiest thing to practice
Good stuff!

I haven't played snooker for yrs. I used to play at a local club called the Pyramid which still exists. I still have my Barracuda cue which is a beauty and a perfect weight. I was always good at long pots but very bad at side pockets often clipping the corners haha. I think I will go back and enjoy a game when it's possible. Loved these videos btw.

Great video
Great video. Would be lovely to see you do similar videos on other players, past and present, on their unique contributions to the game and how they changed snooker. Also maybe some vids on individual playing styles, showing us what the average bear i.e. me, might not "see".
Going to do at least 5 of these
He was my hero! Got my photo with him at butlins Ayrshire aged 8 in 1993.

Can you do a tutorial on how to hit the cue ball with the stick every time? Still working on that :P
You should stick to dominoes.
Really got into snooker over the last few months , total newb but I’m watching all your tutorials, barry starks , and Barton snooker . I just want a snooker table now lol ! ( p.s from the Isle of Wight ;) )
I've watched a few of your videos and I thought they were OK --------> but this ones is brilliant!
4:22 As Steve Davis said, 'Only this guy would pot the 2nd last red in the green pocket, take the last red off the cushion and get position back on the black' 😂
first time seeing your channel, really interstingly explained. But what is it with the pins on the map?
