- Greetings everyone!
This is tour vlog Day 7 from our 3rd show in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. I had some downtime before soundcheck started and I go through Craig's fantastic drum kit in a little more detail. Showing what all drums, cymbals, heads, mics, electronics, and even my cheat sheets are. Then I put in a little snippet of video from soundcheck and some video from the show that was shot from my wife Tiffany's Iphone. The video quality from the gig is what it is. Shot from the audience and all of that. But what is cool is that the Oakville Center for the Performing Arts is a nice intimate venue. The lighting designer Chris Curran is fantastic. He made that stage look amazing! In the video are little bits of a couple of songs and most of my drum solo. I don't get the chance to do drum solos very often so it a big challenge for me. It is also a big challenge because the drum solo comes towards the very end of the gig! It's crazy but I am loving it. Also, this band is really awesome! If you've seen Steve and the boys play before then you already know that. In the video is a little section from Cinema Show ( sorry, I only had what me lovey wife gave me to work with ) and check out Jonas on the bass. The man kicks some serious ass! Everyone in the band does and I've said it before and I'll say it again, I am blessed to have this opportunity.
Going through the drums goes from the beginning of the video until 5:14 and the music parts from 5:15 to the end.
This evening (Dec 4, 2022) is our final show in Canada. Playing at the Grand Theater Du Quebec then it is down to the states for the rest of the run.
Cheers!

Congratulations 🎊 Nick you make it swing! Steve is the best your are blessed to be in their team of professionals
Ripping it up Nick D'Virgilio! Great stuff...
Hey Nick, just saw you in Montreal recently. Thanks for helping Steve tour this music. It means the world to so many of us!
I was at the Friday show in Oakville. The band was incredible.
Nick behind the kit singing away to the opening lyrics to Supper's Ready .. you could tell he was a Genesis fan..
Fantastic show.
Craig and Nick. Two of my truly inspirations.
I restart drumming with 52 years after a 20 year lasting break. But the old Spocks Beard songs, still works.
Craig is fantastic espacially on the Lonley Robot Albums. But also with Steven Wilson.
A fantastic sound, and a dynamic blast.
Thank you
First time i saw you playing was in 2000 with spock´s beard opening for Dream theater in Portugal. i was blown away with your drum sound ( mapex i believe..) and the way you played. So inspiring! And now killer as always! the engagement with the audience. that´s a true performance! Thank you Mr D´Virgilio!
Great counting idea for the 9/8 part in supper's ready 💯🥁🎶
Way cool 😎 Nick you & Chester Thompson are my favorites
Killer drum sound!!! Keep sharing Nick! 👏👏👏
Nick I love how your personality comes across in your playing and stage presence. What a great gig this is playing for Steve Hackett. I grew playing drums and listening to old Genesis and Hackett. The drums parts are masterpieces and you kill it brother. ✌️✌️
Thanks so much Eddie!!!
Outstanding...love behind the scenes stuff
Was at the last Oakville show. KILLER solo and super tight show!🤘🏼 Very enjoyable! From Niagara Falls, NY.
I'm sitting in Keswick Theater right now and you just finished the first set. My mind is blown! You are awesome! Thank you!
I've seen Hackett twice and loved it, but is Nick were there, that would clinch it. Hackett should hire Nick as his full time drummer!
Those are some big cymbals!!!!!! Thanks for the tour Nick!!!
Loved the kit breakdown. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks a lot for the video. I love to watch you play, you allways smile, and look as playing is easy. Keep them coming! 👏🏻
Excellent video! Loved the BTS of the drum set and really enjoyed the clips of the performance!
Fantastic drummer/teacher! Sounds amazing! Peace from Detroit MI.
The drum solo!!! Yes, Nick D at his finest.Im truly enjoining these videos.
Very cool to see you in the Drum intro to "Los Endos", with your particularly drum solo part!! And the write in the snare of Apocalypse hahha very awesome, specially the 1, 1 2, 1 2 3 (really understand your point 🤘) greetings and have an awesome time with the band....(pass come to Chile with the band please, would be awesome to see you live)
My wife and I were at that very show, Nick. The first thing my wife said to me following the show - who was that drummer? He was spectacular! (and she's married to a drummer - so she knows her stuff). Great job! Great show!
Hey Nick! Thanks for the tour! You sounded great at GTQ. Hope to see you in '24 on CTTE!!
I was at the Wednesday and Friday shows in Oakville. My first time seeing you perform live. Both shows were the best concerts I have been to this year. You looked like you were having the time of your life
Awesome! Love these videos.
Inspiring as always thanks Nick
Thanks for the videos
and the detailed writeups, Nick!
Very cool Nick 🤘🏻😉
Nice job Nick saw you in New Jersey you guys were awesome 👏
Amazing video, amazing drummer
Brilliant !
AMAZING SOLO !!!!!
Everybody loves Nick!
I attended 2 shows there! Just the very best! Nick is Dope! At the time I did not know he was a fill-in.
I need you in Italy Nick!
Thanks for this awesome vlog, sometimes it's like travelling with you and be lucky enough to take a quick yet satisfying peek of your stunning job. Lovely kit and setup btw, I was wondering if those cymbal set could be useful for my actual purposes (punk & 90s rock projects)
Thanks for these Vlogs Nick - making me feel even more envious that I’m missing out on seeing this show. Hope you’re having fun!
Nick...cant' think of a better drummer, can't think of a better human....
i think the rack toms are audix d2's, not d4's just fyi. no biggie, i'm just nitpicking :) thanks for the tour vlogs! it's great to see how the real pros do it. keep up the great work!!!
Awesome performance!! One man doing what Phil and Chester did together, haha. BTW, I noticed the cymbals on this kit all have the CRS (cymbal Resonance System) on them. Completely changed (improved) the sound of my cymbals, too. They're not cheap, but they definitely work! I have a Gretsch, and the tom mount has an extra slot for a mini boom arm on which I have mounted a splash cymbal. The cymbal would resonate everytime I hit the bassdrum. This took care of that annoyance, it's completely isolated now. Higly recommended for everyone that may have the same "problem" :)
R&R on the Paiste Big Beats! I have a set and love them. Especially the BB hi hats. Could you go over your iPad apps that help you on your tours and practice? Btw. Love your playing and all your helpful hints on this channel and the SW channel. Great content!
For a split second I thought u were about to get into Adam and t Ants. Grt vlog...cheers 🍻
I'm not a drummer so you lost me on most of the list of cymbals and drums but I was at the show on Thursday night and everything was friggin' AWESOME!
Hi Nick, just wondering what is the device that all your cymbals are mounted to? Are those new versions of Aquarian's Cymbal Springs? Thanks!
Onya Nick! Longtime Genesis fan of more than 30 years. Would be great to see you and Nic Collins doing this together. Shows there's plenty of room for a Genesis alumni show. Most are still performing or capable of doing so. Spoilt for choice really.
Saw the show in Montreal on Nov 29 2022, it was awesome. Unfortunately the mix wasn't that great, I had center seats but I couldn't hear the drum during "The Shadow of the Hierophant" the guitar and moog taurus pedal were way too loud. Keep up the good work!
Six six six!
Congrats Nick on this great gig. Some of the most fun that can be had on drums! I had a question about those cymbal isolators, do they work well? And does Sweetwater carry them? I have a splash that's giving me trouble. Thanks, I enjoy these videos, keep them coming 🙂
What’s that thing hanging out the bottom of the hi hat
I love Nad Sylvan as the front man but I also know how well you sing Genesis material and it would be great to hear you singing a song or two or a duet with Nad and the band.
Maybe someone can answer this question for me in the comments section. Why is Craig not playing with them on this leg of the tour? I saw a video on YT where he's playing drums with another band. Also, why would Nick be playing Craig's kit when surely he has his own? If someone could enlighten me on this, I'd be most appreciative.
Hay, aren’t you usually the one singing Squonk? What gives?
I'm curious to know what your thoughts are on playing with the big cymbals, inspiring? Too bleed-y/washy? Etc!
for him i like you more than craig...., the kit needs more toms..., at list one 13..., specially with big cymbals....., reminds me palmer in the 70s big this 22 and 24 crashes..., or paice....., they sound really good!, craig is not for steve...., best choice was doane perry which isnt with tool anymore, or mover or simon or fudge smith...., otoole was fantastic for hackett..., he gives a lot to the music of steve...., the solo is really good nick, really feets the music, is lyric and with soul with a small tribute to collins and chester in composition with your dinamics...., the solos of craig are without xtructure, cresendo and lyricism...., he is an amazing drummer, really technical but not for steve..., he will feet good crinsom or porcupine...., for hackett not.... really good made nick!
