It's "Psimitar", rather scimitar. It a crystile spear used to focus psychic energy, the weapon of Askani order that raised adn trained Cable.
Of which Cable's sister (sort of) was telepathically teleported to be their leader before hopping back to the present, in between stints of being the Phoenix. Everything regarding the Summers family tree is messed up.

I think It'd be cool if this was a series.. honestly your ideas are so appreciated and highly valued by so many people because your'e genuine, passionate, and you're so appreciative of all games, if you made an "Appreciation/Breakdown" series with all your favorite characters from a variety of games, or even some characters you think are under appreciated, I think it would be awesome. :)
Side note: I used to be a strict Melee fan, but now thanks to you I've become a fan of all fighting games, I even bought a Dreamcast and got Garou and 3rd Strike, I also got CvS2, EVERY MvC, SvC Chaos, Guilty Gear, and KOF for other systems, and 3rd Strike and Garou are my 2 favorite 2d fighters ever now, so thank you!!

It's surprising how few people know that SonSon wasn't a character original to MvC2 (Being a super old Capcom arcade game character), the only two original MvC2 characters were Ruby Heart and Amingo (And even then I believe he was originally a scrapped Darkstalkers character or something).
Viva Reverie SonSon isn't the same character as the arcade one, she's supposed to be a descendant
Really? Huh, that's interesting. Still, I'd personally argue SonSon shouldn't be grouped in with the other two characters as she technically still has a bit of a "legacy", unlike Ruby Heart+Amingo.
MvC2 was legendary. The roster, the presentation, everything. I played this daily at my local arcade and bought it the first day it came out on Dreamcast. It was an amazing time back then.
Cable was also super badass in X-Men Legends. He had a lot of psi attacks that could stun lock enemies and his gun attacks were stupid powerful.

You know capcom put a lot of love and effort into marvel 2 and ultimate marvel 3. What happened?
Midknight Huargo Infinite went into preplanning 3 weeks after vanilla Marvel 3 launched. If you're gonna blame an entirely different game it would be Street Fighter 5 since Infinite got half as big a budget as SF5's *DLC* .
That’s easy, around 2008 Capcom got infatuated with the HD remaster, causing a very nasty trend that continues to this day.
Marvel 2 was from a different era. It was pre-CGI everything, pre-cultural degradation, pre-animation decline, etc. We see the same thing in anime quality as well. Compare 90's anime to 2020 anime, the art style.

One of the best arcade games of all time. There was months when this game came out where certain teams were dominant. Then new teams took over, and so on. Some many different phases of this game in the couple years when it was the top game in every arcade.
Teenagers and adults on Friday and Saturday would line up to play, I saw a 15 year old kid get 54 wins vs 30 something different players....... huge crowds , cheering , lots of ohs and ahhss. Never seen anything like it in 20 years of going to arcades.
this was my introduction into the deeper level of fighting games. I played mvc2 for a while before I encountered a cable/storm/sentinel lock-down team. On a casual level it sucks to play someone who chucks grenades and calls in sentinel swarm all day.
It was also exciting to see what new character was unlocked or news of another arcade having another character available.
My best friend Alex uses the command grab as a finisher.
Absolutely love Cable! Great memories with this character on MVC2. Probably my favorite character on the game.
Cable, Ruby Heart, and Son Son always looked the best to me, at least in terms of new spritework for MvC2.

I learned that there's a Marvel 2 arcade at a mall near me. also this game needed Deadpool.
Deadpool wasnt that big of a deal back then, only supergeeks knew about him.

God damn, I remember trying that air hop HVB combo loop when I ran a team with Cable for a bit. That was sorta ridiculous in how easy it was to do with a full meter. Especially when you get a Happy Birthday.

Hey Max fun note, his command throw has one good thing about it. You can use it after you land his other useless move timeflip and if done right you'll throw them on a bullet and you can follow up with ahvb. There is one way cable can connect timeflip by himself and that's with standing fp as the bullet hits him.

3:22 Sweet Zarq! He DOES have Psi-mitar Warspear! He used to be all guns, then some blessed genius gave him the spear in the mid-to-late '90s. Got plenty of the those comics. He can channel psychic energy into it making an ultra-effective weapon.

It's funny that the first time I saw Cable, was in this game. I knew almost nothing from X-men, but I always called Cable an "alternative version of Cyclops with rays in his gun instead of his eyes" or mostly "Cyclops father".
Years later I found out that I wasn't so far from the true. LOL
We need more of these in the lead up to the fighting collection. Get everyone even more hyped with Cyclops. Ruby, Amingo et Al. breakdowns
One of the best things about cable: his psimitar can be set as his alpha counter, which can then be cancelled into his AHVB. And since you can cancel blockstun into an alpha counter, that means there’s a lot of safe moves that on block, become unsafe moves that you can punish if cable’s on your team. IE, playing against a magneto that decided to cancel into magnetic shockwave to be safe? Block, then counter in cable and AHVB him to death.
I miss this game so much. It wasn't just a sick fighting game, it was an era of my life with great friends, fun hangouts, and deep learning. This community lasted years even without any patches.
One of the best arcade games that came out when I was a kid
The command grab had one great thing about it, that made it really useful in dire times. I've heard tales of players giving quarters to players who managed to land a command grab with Cable on them.

I specifically remember that the one thing I heard about the balance in MVC2 back in the day was that Cable was apparently super broken. I forget where, almost definitely some magazine or whatever. This was long before I started caring about the meta of fighting games, this was around the time the PS2 version came along, so I was like 16 at the oldest.
DavCube You're not wrong. Cable along with Sentinel, Magneto and Storm are easily the best characters in that game
It's those three, Doom, and a couple others that I saw in tournament play years after the fact with the advent of youtube and the like. Hardly ever any Cables though. At least not that I can remember. I dunno, i was just rambling.
Doom's okay, but I wouldn't put him in the same breath as those three. But yeah, those early CZcams days were something else with 240p and all that jazz
You hardly see Cables because he had this stigma of being easy mode. Like, you need to search for all the broken stuff the other 3 do, but Cable was obviously strong since day 1. Other characters like Doom are better as assists than Cable is, so I guess people just picked Storm/Sentinel/Magneto and a good assist.

cable's command grab can be used as an empty cancel from fierce gunshots iirc
You forgot the grenades and you can hold them down to travel further. You can do dash Short short fierce assist captain commando anti air then super jump cancel super for the most damage off an opener like that.
