Where di the name PAKU-PAKU come from? I remember doing this in public school (mid 60's to early 70's) All that it was called was Fortune teller.
It seems that is an onomatopoeia from Japanese that means: munch / devour / snap at , as in these examples:
Someone munched on an apple.
A dog munched at its food.

Onomatopoeia is a "word that includes sounds that are similar to the noises the words refer to" (Cambridge Dictionary).
Probably this origami model got his name from the fact that it looks like a mouth that opens and shuts, exactly like a munching mouth.

You're supposed to cut slits between each Fortune so when you open one you're not opening both as shown in your video. Then you had to cover it up with your hand.
I have no experience on making a fortune teller or even playing one but are you sure the fortune teller won't fall apart? I'm planning on making one.
@@4nico_ just watch any other video on how to make one. You're just cutting a one inch slit on the corner. It's hard to describe but if you watch another video you'll see what I mean
@@4nico_ hmm... This is strange. I watched other CZcams videos to make sure I was giving you correct directions but all the other videos show the same method as above (no cutting). I thought maybe I remembered it wrong so I just now made one to test it out. I cut the slits and it worked fine and didn't fall apart. It actually works better with the cuts because you don't have to lay the paper down flat to open the triangle flap the person chooses. You can keep it folded and pointy (not sure how else to describe it lol). You keep two fingers in the fortune teller and with the other hand you lift the triangle flap and since it's been cut it easily shows the fortune with no unfolding which looks way cooler. It's so hard to describe what I mean. Just use a scrap piece of paper and try the folding so you can see what I'm talking about. With this cutting method you can also allow the chooser to open the flap themselves while you keep all your fingers in the fortune teller so it's more interactive that way. That's how I remember it from the 80s.
