You want them to give him anything he wants? And then you say he needs more support around him 🤔🤔 I'm a Knicks fan. I love the way JB is playing and I understand that for his performances, he's underpayed and undervalued around the NBA. But we have so many more needs at the moment. Mitch is injured, we need a replacement for him, we need another scorer, which it might be more plausible to get in the off-season. We don't know what the contract situation is gonna be with IQ. I think we need to get most of those things in order before thinking of giving JB "anything he wants". This is only his second year of a 104M contract, 26M per year ain't exactly cheap. And I don't think he's worth 40M like the upper echelon super stars are getting, unless he wins a chip or at least gets us to the finals

I never thought I'd say it, but go off Perk! I'm so tired of watching people acting like they don't see what Jalen Brunson has done in the big moments. 50 against the Suns. Went for 30 or more four times in six games against the Miami Heat. He shows up when he NEEDS to show up. He has not once been the problem with any team he's been on. The problem last season was Randle had a weak playoff showing, but that was with him injured, and I never hated on him like a lot of people did. If he has a healthy playoff run next to JB he'll show up, and I think that will make any question about Brunson's height irrelevant. I think JB is the best player on the Knicks, but Randle is very close behind, and their combined presence is an issue for teams that don't know who to prioritize defense on. I don't think they're winning chips without another big scoring threat, but I don't think that means it has to be a player that is better than Brunson, there were so many close games in the playoffs last season despite Grimes putting up single digit scoring. They are much closer to contention than most people think.

Kendrick Perkins and Zach Lowe are the only two analysts on ESPN that knows what they're talking about when it comes to the Knicks and doesn't go to a default narrative about "they need another star", "where they do they rank in the East". Jalen Brunson is the best thing to happen to the Knicks since Patrick Ewing. Full stop. He may not be the quintessential superstar, but he has the potential to be. His stats are very impressive, he's definitely an all-star level player. The Knicks need 1 more big time player, that's what takes them to the conference finals and potentially the finals. They're playing good team ball this year but on those off nights where they;re not shooting well, you need that player who can create for himself and make stuff happen. Brunson by himself isn't enough when Randle and Barrett aren't productive.
Like a Donovan Mitchell for example, since he's being mentioned here and I know the rumors of Donovan wanting to be a Knick have been swirling for multiple seasons now. Jalen Brunson and Donovan Mitchell backcourt tandem? It'd be a small lineup in the backcourt with both being like 6'1 but still...that's scary man. The Knicks need an explosive scoring 2 guard or SF, a shot creator who can reliably average 25ppg or better. Jalen is just fine at being a more traditional PG that looks to pass first, but he's always a serious scoring threat every time he's on the floor. That's how I see it. They need one more big piece and for the rest of the roster to continue developing then they become a serious contender in my book.

i was wrong about brunson when he went to the knicks. i thought he'd be an okay starting guard, but overpaid. he's been a star for them. that said, the current roster construction in the NBA just doesn't allow for him to lead an okay team to be a NBA champion. He's their best 3pt scorer by volume, but they need an off-ball guy who's better than Barrett as the third scoring option and who can defend at a high level. adding OG Anunoby to this team would be interesting. i think becky is right, if your best player is small your climb is going to be rough to the top. not impossible, but it's not common.
