Wes Anderson successfully counters the tragedy of life, and Captain Ahab finds his peace in The Life Aquatic.

Let's just say I humitiated myself.
why?
How?
It’s an exmaple
what?
in the best way possible tho
Life Aquatic for some reason is my favorite of Wes Anderson’s films and one of my go-to comfort rewatches. There’s just enough of the colorful artificial fun of his later movies mixed with the emphasis on great characters in his earlier films like Rushmore. I think Darjeeling Limited benefits from this as well, although that’s much more somber and meditative than Life Aquatic.
Also, Bill Murray in this era KILLED it with 3 of his best performances: this, Lost in Translation, and Broken Flowers.
Exactly, it's a great comfort movie. This is on my list with Jackie brown, the thing, event horizon and lord of the rings for favorite comfort movies I can watch at anytime.
To give an example Life in the Water is finished, it's been 20 years and it's the best movie in my mind, but I taste sorry for the way people don't understand and misunderstand the movie. It's not rated very high, and from what I've read of the reviews at imdb, the stupid and self-righteous movie critics have also pressed on with this detailed and honest work. People don't care about the truth, which is the biggest slight against STEVE. wes the director himself was not willing to come down and explain. After 20 years, the artistry of the work coupled with the drama of wes directing reality, I expect someone to find and have the ability to bring the truth to light. Do justice to this underrated masterpiece.
I've been wanting to see this film for ages as I love wes Anderson's films and have just this minute finished watching it. I wasn't disappointed, loved it, especially the artistic way the sealife is portrayed
i also really wanted to SEA this
No movie has ever needed one person passionately defending it more than this one. I'm astounded it doesn't have more recognition in Wes's filmography compared to his other films.
Steve breaking down a little when meeting the Jaguar Shark again is a similar beautiful ending like Fantastic Mr Fox when Mr Fox salutes the wolf. Both protagonists are able to interact with something they once feared/detested. In a deeper way they both face/acknowledge/accept more chaotic parts of this life. Ones animal nature and the unexpected challenges of life. Thank you for this video, the Life Aquatic is a masterpiece to me it’s my fave Wes Anderson film!
Life Aquatic is minimalist yet mysteriously complex.
oh my god you find the truth?!
At this point you just don't ask what goes on in willem or Jeff's minds and I love them for it
The ending with the shark is the only film to make me cry
Anderson is my favorite director and Life Aquatic is my favorite movie of his. I love his meticulous eye for detail, while allowing for imperfections in his movie. The way he tells stories just really resonates with me. I love his movies
i always overlooked this movie, but it quickly became one of my favorites
I was riveted from beginning to end with this movie. Same for Moonrise Kingdom. I watch both over and over and over.
Brilliant. Profound. And in a good way. Not self-indulgent, or overly internalized, or too personal to give us a window into our own thoughts, and feelings. I learned about myself, and life.
Beautifully paced, like a piece of meat cut into just the right size chunks by mom. You have a gift.
"Segway" is a two-wheeled, self-balancing personal transporter. "Segue" is an uninterrupted transition from one piece of music or film scene to another.
Making a movie that seems sorta bad on purpose is an art - wes nails it every time
I think that's what made this movie so good.
This is one of, if not the best wes anderson video-essay ive seen. It is perfectly captures all that i love about andersons films
My wife and I just watched this film and came to this conclusion - on the surface, it appears to hold nothing, but in fact it's holds everything. Not entirely unlike the ocean itself in that respect.
This film is one of my all time favorites. It strikes something in me every time I watch it.
The Pretentious Meter showed 11/10!
Pusher Trillogy! Ginger Snaps! And Deathrace 2000 with David Carradine! #teamzissou
was humility spelled humity on purpose
This was incredible.
Thanks! That means a lot!
This is beautiful, thank you very much!
My fav all time movie 🍿
Whatever it means to anyone else, it means the world to me. It's my treasure.
Thanks for this analysis! Just had my first viewing of this one last night after falling in love with Grand Budapest and French Dispatch this past year, while I was definitely expecting to enjoy it I had no expectations of it standing up to those! I can't wait to watch this one again
Never saw a mango quote coming in one of these youtube movie videos
I've watched it thousands of times. This movie is my all time fàv it comforts me ❤❤❤
This was super enjoyable to listen to and think over, thank you!
I saw this movie twice on opening day. It was on Christmas too. Shocked to hear people dont like this movie
It's like exquisite food, you need to reinvent the process of tasting again and then focus on the real things that make something very tasteful.
If you understand one of the Wes Andersons films, you will soon being sucked into this new way of film appreciation.
This is Art on its highest level for the people who can open their eyes and free their minds to absorb this in all its beauty.
Solid stuff, keep em coming
Thank you for the Video, Its one of the best movies i‘ve ever seen!
i still think one of the funniest scenes in this movie is Jeff Goldblum slapping three legged dog with a newspaper like its not a totally evil thing to be doing.
No. That was not funny. Hitting an animal is not funny. Why would you find it funny?
@@gmar7836 it's funny because it didn't actually happen and was totally unexpected.
@@gmar7836 Be still, Cody.
@@gmar7836 Hitting the dog is not funny, the concept of Goldblum doing that as if it's not a bad thing is.
This was really good
Amazing video. Stumbled upon this and I’m so happy I did. I needed to see and hear what you had to say I guess. Please make more
I had a prophetic dream I watched this review, it was so amazing and well-edited, it thought it was just a dream being strange. That’s when I researched the movie, watched it then looked at reviews. Then it came full circle

Amazing channel- I’ve been very lucky in finding great, and surprisingly small channels recently. Keep it up!! Your work is both self aware and very thorough.
I built a new keyboard with life aquatic themed colorways. This made me want to just watch clips for the day.
My fav movie ever

"This is an adventure" ...

wes and bill are both great artists that found each other.
great video, love this movie
I love this video... and I love this movie...
Wtf whys this video got so low views, this is such a quality video.
Thought provoking analysis/re-review. TFS. 👍👍The first time I saw this movie, I'm sure I missed a lot of metaphors and references and still do (at least one of which you pointed out in the video - 'the ocean'). But on an more basic aesthetic and human level, this movie grabbed me hard the first time I saw it. I've re-watched it a few times since - and plan to do so again now, soon - something I rarely do with movies. It's one of my favorite films.
Great Vid my man ... subscribed !
I hope you get more views :) this is a wonderful video
Good job bEATTY
Funny how this only came out 5 months ago. I just saw this film last night and it unexpectedly got to me emotionally.
This Is RARE movie, its not a masterpeace 'cuzz its on another Level!!!!
I think I identify or sympathize possibly with Klaus. Willem played this character like no one else could. He’s arrogant, confident and loyal. Also, somehow doesn’t think Steve appreciates his contribution to the team and seeks his love\attention\approval. That quick pep talk about the “B” team was all Klaus needed to snap back into lightning strike mode. Steve showed excellent leadership skills…even all through the movie. Great movie
Even with a bad accent, and only a few lines, he is still a fantastic character.
He dosen't make movie for the masses his films are something you either love love or hate
This is such a well-made video. The editing is great, the script is good and this makes for a really entertaining video.
@bEATTY no idea such why such amazing content has so few subscribers but know that you just got a subscriber in me and more importantly that this helped me in ways I never would have believed a friggin CZcams movie essay could. Thank you.
Often I say out loud, get him out of the f`n water in my best German acescent.
i liked this
Anderson will be more and more highly regarded as time goes on because he makes good films in a self contained world different than the norm.
Films viewed individually as they are released don't get the benefit of the full weight but f Anderson's world.
Love the way of exposing the themes. Great videos and voice! Subscribed
This is a nice thing to say.
Mark my words, if you keep up with this quality of video, you will eventually thrive here. I know it's a lot of work and may not be possible, I'm just saying you're good, real good. Eventually the algorithm would pick up for you. Good luck m8 and thank you for making this video, I love this movie and this video is art
Wow I’m 3 years late; totally in love with your video and desperately in need for the name of the soundtrack at 4:21
humity?
Well done despite the superficial typos.
His mentor was Lord Mandrake.
It's an adventure...
Saw this movie recently and tbh it was beautiful. Btw this is some great content. 😌
Thanks buddy! I'll keep workin
Music for scene preview: Nobody Loves You When You're Down and Out, John Lennon.
"Zissou shoots blanks" Ned wasn't Really his biological son
Love the Life Aquatic. Good stuff dude. Keep it up!
Wow, that was great. The Life Aquatic is one of my favorite movies and you summarized it perfectly. Great work.
Very well done. This video has a vibe that matches perfectly with the Life Aquatic style.
This movie has always had a strong metaphor feel to me. The one underlying theme I took away from it was: staging the fake to appear real. That may sound a bit obvious, but it helps me explain the theory that Ned didn't die. It's probably more of a want to believe thing, but I think that everything sandwiched between the beginning and end theater scenes was scripted to be scripted. Steve's previous film had a major character die + a new, mysteries species. It flopped. He had to bring out the big guns. Major family drama, pregnant reporter, pirate shootout, and this time the "death" was followed by some serious emotional closure. Ned's "death" symbolized his transition from pilot to sailor. From the sky to the water via whirlybird, Ned became Kingsley.
Jane found her confident independence, Hennessey found friendship, the crew gets to keep working, Steve gets his fame. All orchestrated by the mastermind moneymaker, Oseary.
Thank you- I love this analysis
Nice mang0 quote
I forgot that part about bill Murray. But I love watching him in movies. By the way I like your speaking voice bEATTY
❤
Did you just… quote mang0!?
Greate. Towards the end you wrote humity instead of humility
What was the name of that folk song at 3:48?
Esteban was not his mentor but his best friend and colleague. Steve's mentir was Lord Mandrake.
Very niicely done (revop) review opinion piece. I felt like this is the lost film footage ending to Life Aquatic with Steve zissou
This is the best break down of a movie I've ever seen. Thank you for this.
please please please tell me the name of the song in the background at 4:30, thank you so much I need this specific version
The song that starts at ~ 4:20 is Cooper Ave - The Westerlies.
@@bEATTYonFilm THANK YOU SO MUCH
What’s the music at 4:20?
*I hate that I'm using this quote*
As Kylo Ren said, "Let the past die, kill it if you have to".
Was "humity" a typo?
Lightning STRIKE Rescue Op! Lol
I HATED Life Aquatic the first time I watched it.
I've watched it multiple times a year since.
I like your choice of words and I guess I have a better understanding now of the movie.
By the way your editing at 10:18 following, it's just beautiful to watch how it fits the rhythm of the piano.
Thank you for this video
Regarding your "replace with a song you find more appropriate" question; Crazy by Patsy Cline
That definitely works well!
Huh?? How did you do this analysis without mentioning Jacques Cousteau????
humity
Esteban was eaten!
