You could get lucky and get a clean title Toyota, or wait 6 months for a rebuilt title Honda or get a junk certificate Kia ! It’s confusing !

That was a very clear description imo. I guess it all depends on the value of the car.

Here in Minnesota if you got a vehicle with Salvage title you can get a clean title just need show a receipts that shows all the work you done then have it inspected by the Minnesota State Patrol office or State Trooper then they will sign off on it and some other paperwork then you can get a clean title .
So if Auto Parts City wants to sell a vehicle/s have a purchase agreement that shows that you sold it to a person in Minnesota . Have them come out inspect the vehicle
Me I don't a SUV, car or pickup . I just like to one of Auto Parts City's tow trucks since I own a Repossession & Recovery company .

I have heard though of some title scams. I'm not sure if it is about the entire type of title, eg salvage junk etc. But some titles have a flood warning on them, from insurance company totalling the car, and scammers change the car to a new state where they can shed the flood title by updating the title for the state.

    • @zzoinks

Are there services that can tell me if a vehicle is flood damaged?
Yes. There are three FREE services for consumers to check whether a used vehicle they are considering buying has been reported to have been damaged.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) - allows consumers to check vehicle identification numbers (VINs) to see if vehicles were affected by hurricanes Katrina, Rita or Wilma. NCIP is a non-profit organization that works with insurers, law enforcement and the public to fight insurance fraud and vehicle theft. The list is compiled from information supplied by insurance companies, state and local governments, and salvage yards. Over 165,000 vehicles have already been registered.

Places like NYC, NJ, Cali, Ore no longer stop for fake temp tags, stolen tags no tags, or no insurance. So most of those could be on the road .

    • @cdos9186

I assume a lot of them needed repairs, and since repairs can get incredibly expensive, they just found it more reasonable in their mind to junk the vehicle rather than fix anything since it was "already a few years old". So rather than the vehicle going to someone that is willing to put the money into it, they end up getting junked. Kind of unfortunate how much end up getting crushed when there is someone that would've been willing to get them back on the road. As you can see, it leads to an incredible amount of waste of both parts and vehicles that could've been back on the road for a few more years. That's the cost of wanting the latest and greatest, sadly.

If a private person drops off a car with a clean signed title then what is the disposition at the yard? Can you sell it by getting the title transferred? Or under Illinois law are you required to Junk the title or salvage it?

Many states (like oregon, my place) make it a death sentance for all reported inventory, so the ones worth selling need to go to their sale section, if they have one.

So, if I showed up with an out of state automotive dealers license then I could buy a salvage title vehicle from you? It's also strange to me that a vehicle that can be confirmed with that state as having a clean title would receive a salvage title just because it was abandoned and then sold without a title.
