Why would ANYONE bat an eye over a 9-year-old playing at that level.? Obviously, they don't know chess history. Paul Morphy, Sammy Reshevsky, Bobby Fischer, The Polgar Sisters, Magnus Carlsen, etc. All very young when they started out.
A preteen at a chess tournament is almost a banality!
