  • In this video, I review the Ricoh R1s 35mm point and shoot. I go over the specifics of the camera and how the R1s forced me to shoot from a different perspective.

    Hi there. I'm Chris. Film is more fun is a place where I share about whatever busted up old camera I'm currently shooting and tinkering with, or my meanderings in film photography. It would be pretty rad if you said what's up. I'm 99% friendly. Definitely do that. Disclaimer: If you want technical proficiency this might not be the best place. These videos are more like an elderly person navigating a tv remote control. Pretty random and confused.

    Really dig that wide angle panorama and the form factor is awesome. Documentary style is working for you.

      Thanks, Dave! I've definitely enjoyed carrying it around.

    I really like my R1s. I, too, am mostly at 50mm guy, so it took work to learn to shoot the Ricoh's wider formats. Now I really like it. And mine has the light leak around the film window 'feature', too.

    I really like wider angle pictures myself. I was really considering one of these R1s but ended up getting a Fuji Naturia S instead because it’s got an 24mm F1.9 lens and I wanted it mostly for evening and night pictures when I’m on vacation.

    • @filmismorefun

      I've never shot a Natura, but have always been tempted to get one when I see them on eBay. They look pretty small.

    My favorite camera right now is the Ricoh grd1 from 2006. It’s the first digital one they made and dear gawd it’s still nearly perfect to me

    • @filmismorefun
      @filmismorefun  Před 2 lety +1

      Those older GRD's can be picked up for a bargain. Speaking of the Ricoh digitals, after shooting with this R1s I've had my eye on a GRiiiX. It looks like a perfect pocket carry with the narrower focal length, especially if I want more versatility than shooting film.

      @@filmismorefun you will love it I’m sure. Too much money for me but I’ll love my GRD1 until it dies lol

    Nice job here. I’ve had an eye on the R1 for a few years. I did find one at an estate sale two years ago, but it turned out to be DOA.

    • @filmismorefun
      @filmismorefun  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks. That's a shame about yours ending up DOA. R1's aren't know to be the most durable cameras.
      Just this morning I was walking around with it in my pocket, and when I reached in for my phone the R1 slid out dropping about 3 feet hitting the concrete. I think I audibly gasped lol. Aside from the battery popping out, everything was good to go. I got lucky this time I guess haha.

    Thanks to you I found your video. I have my Ricoh R1 and its just shutdown the camera when everytime I click the shutter. I try your technique flicking the lens, and now its works now. But hopefully its work very well for a long time😅

      I'm glad it was helpful! I've only needed to flick the lens one time and it's held up for me with no problems since. I hope you have the same luck 🙂

    I own this camera but I do not really like it. The viewfinder ist awfully small and there ist a lot of vignetting. Its also very unreliable und it feels kind of cheap. I like the size tho. You should try other cameras as well before you buy one of these but in the end its all personal matter. Great Video :) and greetings from Germany

    • @filmismorefun
      @filmismorefun  Před 2 lety

      Hi there. I agree there is heavy vignetting, but in my opinion it adds to the images. It's all personal taste though. I'm glad that you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching. 🙂
