  • There's always a huge fuss when Honda announces a new Fireblade but often they don't quite live up to expectations. The year 2020 could be very different. Donovan is joined by Rob Portman to ride the new CBR1000RR-R Fireblade plus the SP model at Red Star Raceway.

      Except for lame Audio. In the words of Paul Bertorelli from the AvWeb aviation channel: Good Audio Makes Good Video. Three ways The Bike Show can obtain A's on their report card (instead of Needs Improvement):
      1) lower the volume or decrease the decibel (s) between the Intro/Exit theme and the spoken word portions of each segment (listen using earbuds and report back on your experience);
      2) eliminate the Repetitive, Intrusive, Pseudo-music track(s) laid down when Harry, for example, is narrating (music is information...just ask your favorite ENT or Audiologist or Neurologist);
      3) use Clip-On, battery-powered Microphones, just like those news professionals on TV do (Audio Fidelity is not the name of a the nextdoor neighbor's marriage encounter group).

    The SP is the track weapon. The base version is for the people who never track it, but rather want the fastest Honda/bike-on-their-block. The base model doesn’t need a quick shifter for that reason, but even more so because it hits 100 MPH in first gear. Quick shifters work best at certain RPM ranges(typically high in the rev range). See where this is going?
    I know this is all opinion, but I think it’s pretty clear that a bike that doesn’t even need to shift is being slammed for not having a quick shifter on the base model which is almost exclusively purchased by street riders.

      It's not a superior than other japanse superbikes by any means.
      It's completely gutless down low and the power up in the top end doesn't feel as peaky as zx10r or gsxr or r1.
      I truly believe the older model was better.
      it was smooth and easy to ride on the track and great street bike too. But this one feels like 600cc you must to go over 7k rpm to feel anyhing.
      Also i did faster lap times on the new r1m than the new cbr1000rr-r sp.
      Don't going to lie i kinda didn't like this bike.
      Shame i was very hyped for this bike.
      It seems like honda doesn't know how to balance HP with usability like other japanse brands and specially not as europeans.

      By your logic h2r is fastest bike on the track just because it can reach 400kph but it couldn't be farther from the truth.
      Bottom line i did test rode it on the nürburgring and it's not any faster.
      It got major issues specially exiting from the corner.

    Stop complaining, this is the best super bike available today.
    230kmh in second gear, long gearing is awesome, meaning top speed will be out of this world. 340 at least.

    • @dungeon5028
      @dungeon5028 Před 4 lety +1

      Top speed is not really what youre looking for on a bike but the longer gearing should give you some advantage on the track. And that is where it should be moved, on the Track, not on the road. I prefer a bike for the road, so I would go with the 2017 model but I cant complain because the older models are now way cheaper because of the mighty 2020 Fireblade....

Don't forget that the 2017-2019 CBR1000RR SP was running some of the fastest laps at different tracks vs. other superbikes in reviews. Simply because it is the fastest 600. It can carry so much more speed in corners. Now with it improved in every way and still has that 600 cornering ability it is going to be tough to beat. Lmao that's bs . You must have some head work done to it and some nitrous to get them numbers out of a 2017 cbr 1000 . They come stock with 189 to the crank . So about 165 maybe 170 hp at the wheel . And with a flash and them mods you got maybe 180 to the wheel . Just quit with the bs we all know that's a lie .

    Your reviews are eggsalent, usually...with the sole exception of the Intro/Exit "music" guaranteed to eventually damage my eardrums when listening via ear buds. Try it and let us know, please.

    I had the privilege to test ride this bike at Nürburgring track and i wasn't impressed by the bike at all.
    It feels very gutless compare to other peaky superbikes like zx10rr v4r and rsv4 and s1000rr but not as agile and easy to ride as these superbikes.
    I actually did faster lap times on the new r1m which is by far easier to ride around Nürburgring.
    It feels like you really need to push the new fireblade to it's limits inorder to get something going. Maybe it's my fault beause i'm not skilled enough for the bike.
    But even in higher rpm it doesn't feel as powerful as v4/r or rsv4 and s1000rr and zx10rr.
    I bet on the dyno it'll put 190-195whp.
    Maybe it's fixable with good ecu flash and tune.
    As for now i don't see how it will beat other class leading superbike it doesn't feel more power specially when you compare it to european superbikes nor it easier to ride.
    And it's not going to be a cheap too.
    This bike had me
    scratching my it's not a bad but it's no way near as good as it should be I expected more from honda.

      I test rode this bike on nürburgring.
      Honely i feel like 2017+ model is better all around.
      The weight gain doesn't worth the HP gain specially when there is absolutely no power up to 7k rpm.
      No other superbikes right now have such a noticable on off powerband and the peak HP doesn't feel any faster than zx10r or r1.

      @@paultanton4307 that's why I don't respect them as a motorcycle company how they don't bring down MotoGP, WSBK tech like Aprilia, Ducati and Yamaha, Kawasaki They just make a bike that can turn the most profit to it's customers.

      Theres surely a limit as to how much Trickle Down Tech the Market can support - the new Blade is pretty much regarded as being too expensive,the Superbike Class is a shrinking sector anyway sales wise,if there was a Middle option between the RC213VS and the Fireblade cost wise would it sell in the right numbers ? I doubt Honda think so.

    So, is calling the new Fireblade the “Dash R” now acceptable? As in, “What’ll you be riding today?” “I’m going to take my Dash R, you?” “Wow, you’ve got the Dash R sorted out already?” “Yep, let’s swing by the café, Bob wants to see the Dash R, then we’ll head for the canyons.” “Brilliant!
