    ABOUT THIS FILM
    ____________________
    Barn owls protected
Barn owls are a protected species and so at first I had to step back and let nature take its course. Late broods can be successful, but are vulnerable to bad weather.
    Time to intervene
But when after days of rain, the youngest barn owlet perished, I attempted to rescue the surviving two.
    Clean up
I cut short a filming trip to bring the owlets indoors and immediately set about cleaning the birds. Their legs and feathers were clogged with dried droppings and prey remains. Although I didn't want to add to their stress, I also didn't want infection to set in - already one chick's feet were swollen. Once they were clean, I wrapped them in a towel and placed them in a box in my boiler room to dry off.
    Hungry
By morning they had begun hissing for food. They were clearly very thin, their breastbones poking through like blades, and needed nourishment fast.
    Tragic end
But despite seeming to react well to my care, within a few days the youngest barn owlet died and the older one began to look unwell. I took her to the vet but sadly she also died, of gastroenteritis and pneumonia.
We did all we could for the owlets, but nature can be cruel at times. Let's hope for a better season for barn owls Finn and Gylfie next year.
    Gylfie & Finn
I don't know why Gylfie gave up on her chicks, but I suspect she was tired after having already raised one clutch earlier this summer.

The description says that he suspects that Gylfie was already tired from raising her first clutch of chick earlier this summer. I also believe that she was super stressed out, in her other nest she could occasionally walk around & stretch her legs, in this one it was impossible. Finn is also a very affectionate Owl who loves being next to Gylfie & the chicks, you can tell that Gylfie enjoys having Finn by her side. But that little nest was far too small for all of them to be there so I guess the moment she saw they were getting even bigger, she said " I need to get out of here"

This video led me to wake up calling how appreciating the life we have is a necessity, has given us is a great choice, and finding a way out of all life's difficulties is the path to light. So sorry to see this happen after such determination on your and your teams behalf. Hard as this is to watch it is nature and sadly things like this happen, we really do not always get a chance to expereince things such as this and it is because of your channel we can all get to see not everything turns out as we had all hoped. Take care.

nature can be cruel for these young little chicks. But such is life. Finn and Glyfie tried for their 2nd brood but the weather did not cooperate. It's really sad to lose all the chicks, it is indeed survival of the fittest. Thank you for your hardwork and dedication to save these chicks' lives. Finn once again proved that he is a capable and loving mate. I hope they would finally thrive for their next brood

I always save animals when i can, no Matter how small they are. I once took a little insect out of a puddle, fighting for its life and a friend Said i should leave it its nature. I replied, it is also nature that me as a concscious being with two Hands Sees an animal in distress and can save its life.

So sad 😞 you did everything you could to save them, nature had other plans unfortunately. Robert, you always go above and beyond for all the animals, the barn owl numbers in the area would not be where they are without your conservation efforts! These little ones fly with Barney now 😔
