    Being a formwork carpenter working mainly on civil projects across Europe, getting to work around the massive crawlers and 1000ton mobile cranes is like my childhood Tonka toys just got supersized. The drivers on the modern crawlers have it to easy compared to the guys that operated the old school lever and foot pedal monsters.

    I like the yellow-painted transition pieces; a job well done by thoughtful tradespeople. I don't like the rusty monopiles, partially painted in white; a job done by atmospheric corrosion molecules of oxygen attacking raw steel destined for the salty ocean. How long will those parts resist corrosion?

    • @MarkFunderburk
      @MarkFunderburk Před 3 lety

      That steel is so thick it would take a few hundred years to rust through. The paint will hardly make a difference to the life span below the waterline.

      would you rather we stay dependent of fossil fuels which will run out in 100 years or so - all we need is more wind, solar, nuclear, hydro, and geothermal, and some good power storage systems, and we can go 100% green for power generation.

    I wonder if those wind turbines, large as they are, will ever produce net energy, just to pay for all the FF energy, that went into their construction, and transport.

    • @mephInc
      @mephInc Před 10 měsíci

      The blades are made of a material that cannot be recycled and will not break down....ever.
      Wind turbines have a max lifespan of around 25 years. Whenever you see one not spinning, there's a diesel generator running at the base.
      Wind turbines are a scam and nothing more than a money grab.

    Definitely “green” energy lol. These will NEVER be net zero!!! What a huge waist! Those cranes could be loading oil rigs to extract real energy from earth!

    • @kylej7593
      @kylej7593 Před 3 lety

      The amount of energy required to move all that stuff around and construct it is significantly less than the amount of energy it will produce when at sea. So you're complaining that making a wind turbine isn't net zero, but then advocating for the continued burring of oil and petroleum. And the idea that wind isn't "real" energy is kind of silly since all electricity is the same. Yes there are problems to work on when it comes to energy storage and capacity for renewables, but sticking to our old ways and sucking the earth dry of its oil is not a solution. Seas will rise, natural disasters will get worse, people will die of famine and wildfires. This is no time to complain about miniscule emissions from wind installation when we are burning megatons of fossil fuels daily.

    • @ryanburbridge
      @ryanburbridge Před 3 lety

      @@kylej7593 you must work for CNN... they are preparing the next big propaganda push of climate change. So yes all you say will creep into the minds of those without knowledge...
      You and i could argue all day long but honestly neither one of us has the real answer. No one can actually calculate the number we are arguing. The idea of “carbon footprint” that we are arguing is a subjective calculation designed to fool everyone anyway.
      You believe at you core in evolution and therefore believe the earth is some fragile system that we can damage. With that as your core belief you will continue to be fooled.
      Let’s make this simple. Green energy will never provide the amount of energy required to make more green energy without traditional chemical energy provided by earth supplementing it.

    See, they use two cranes but they make sure that each crane could bear the full load on its own if it has to. You see that mistake being made everywhere with dire outcome, the idea that the cranes only need to be able to carry half when two are used... Then it turns out the weight is not evenly distributed at a certain moment during the operation and for different reasons one of the cranes gets the brunt of it, and it breaks down - which causes the other one to fail too
