    Memorable scenes of The Sopranos TV Series. It was more than 2 years when James Gandolfini passed away. I miss The Sopranos, I miss Tony Soprano, and I miss James Gandolfini so much.
    Sometimes it's good to come back here, and watch his greatest scenes over and over again. He was a very talented and fascinating actor. I hope these videos help to keep his memory
    alive.

    The scene really shows how skilful a manipulator Tony is. He lets Junior feel the joy and relief of being boss before he tells him what the price is. Like how a sales guys would do it. In Junior's head he's already the boss, he's not going to say no and lose that feeling.

    EXPLANATION TO ALL NON SOPRANO FANS: Junior is so concentrated and centered on being boss that tony uses it to his advantage. Tony never wanted to give junior power. By appeasing junior with boss entitlement, tony asks for the rights to the paving union and the bloomfield deals and gets it. although junior gets the label of "boss". secretly tony has the power and is the one in control. Plus by not being the don, tony gets to work freely and receive less heat by the fbi. strategical masterpeice

      Problem I see with it is that the guys are having to kick up twice. Once to Junior and once to Tony. Eventually that became a moot point because Tony became street boss and Tony let him keep 5/7.5% tribute. But I would think the double kick up wouldve made everyone upset. Especially guys like Paulie. The only way around that is if Tony accepted less tribute than what Jackie received to keep up the facade of Junior being boss.

    • @souldreamer9056
      @souldreamer9056 Před 4 lety +45

      The original poster awakens. I wasn’t referring to this scene in particular, but to their personalities in general, and to how the sociopath won against the narcissist by using the narcissists weakness agains him. I call Junior a narcissist because his self esteem and sense of self worth is largely dependent on the reverence, deference and praise that other people supply. Without this supply he becomes a miserable black hole, as we see in later seasons. Tony knew how much Juniors ego craved the Boss title, and used this to his advantage by making Junior pay a high price for the “privilege”. I know you were not asking why I though Junior was a narcissist, but I throw that one in for free. So why is Tony a sociopath? I realize that the label Sociopath is a problematic one, as definitions change over time, etc, but going by the modern definition as “somebody with Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD)”, he does tick many, if not all, “boxes”. The diagnosis does not require “100% box-tick”. But most telling traits are, that even even if he does have a conscience, which Tony clearly does, he persistently causes others harm and disregards the rights of others for personal gain without feeling guilty about it.

      I agree. Chase said all the signs were there, whoever wants to figure it out. If you want Tony to die, you can find all the clues; if you don't want him to die, you can find ways to justify that option too. That's the brilliance of the ending. I wanted Melfi's rapist to die, I wanted to know if the Russian ever resurfaced, I wanted to know what ever became of the legal battle with Massive Genius, etc. So much in the series was left unresolved, and just because a man with a Members Only jacket looked over at the table before he went into the bathroom, doesn't mean closure. If you want it to, it can. But it's not irrefutable proof Tony was whacked. And certainly not if you examine the pattern of unresolved tendencies in the series.

Then tony comes into this scene and makes Junior boss and it feels as if it came out of nowhere (of course melfi gave Tony the idea). The tension, the strategy, even the way junior and tony hug it out at the end and crack a few jokes you could tell despite all the shit they went through they really did love each other. This was the scene that really won me over when I first started watching. A much simpler time in the show and a lot happier tony. Never gets old either

      "Apples and fuckin' bowling balls" to quote Phil. I don't see how it could work out, and if it does, I'm pretty sure it's going to be butchered and dumbed down, unless Chase is involved, which isn't likely. I don't think there will ever be another Sopranos project... as much as it bothers me to say it and people need to get over it.

    • @nitekilla
      @nitekilla Před 10 lety +1

      Obviously you're talking about other actors than the ones who played them in the flashbacks, cause they're older too plus I don't think they're good enough to hold starring roles. Unless they looked strikingly similar to the original characters (and the original actors) I don't think most hardcore Sopranos fans would take it seriously.
      Livia? I guess she could be the Carmela of the show, but I don't see it.. people would get tired of her shit, fast.
      The thing is though, most important events have already been told by Tony (flashbacks, Livia's miscarriage, etc) so there's not much to go after here. Not to mention it'd be probably set in the 1960-70s which would skyrocket the budget required to catch the atmosphere of the time. Bottom like, it's not the worst idea in theory but I just can't see it working... especially now that the show's trend has dropped (Plus most people equate the Sopranos with Gandolfini)... well, unless Chase wanted.

      @BuzzKirill3D Před 10 lety +7

      It’s originally an Asian concept that eventually travelled into English. It’s about how a person is perceived by others; somebody is much more likely to do something they’d prefer not to do if it won’t make them look weak in the eyes of others.
      The same basic concept can be found in lots of other contexts; Machiavelli counsels princes to take it into consideration in The Prince, and the ancient Romans practically made a religion out of cultivating positive public opinion.

    I remember channel 4 (UK) showing this in the early 00s. Once weekly, as was the norm. I kinda missed a few and lost track after the first couple of series but ended up binging on it 4 times over in its entirety on Blu ray since. Best show ever.

    Jackie was my favorite character in the show. I wish they would have done more with him even though he died.

    If Tony had just made junior boss for real, junior would've gotten alzheimers in a few years anyways, and Tony would've avoided a lot of shit in the family, including his attempted assassination.

    From 1:17 to the end of the clip - two brilliant actors. Look at their faces and body language - so much emotion, things unsaid, nuances and quirks. fucking brilliant.
