  • Materialism is a widely world view, but are we missing something? Is there something that we cannot get with materialism? This video digs into the possibility of an alternative view on the world based on spiritual science. A view that brings meaning and an answer to the big question about life - why? The challenge with materialism is that it primarily answers the question "how?" that doesn't provides us with a fundamental meaning of life.
The videos goes over the development in our view of the world starting from primitive stages and ending up with materialism and spiritual science. I also reflect on the whole thing towards the end of the video, so take stick around to the end of the video.

I had fun making this video. Hope you get something out of it. I am reflecting about my approach to spiritual science at the end of the video (from 17:51)

Good on you for making these videos. Interesting stuff. I like that you dont have music. Very calming voice too.
    Where are you from?

The term "materialism" caught my eye, since a long time ago I was a materialist myself, growing up very interested in science. I absorbed the wide-spread idea that the world is basically the result of random processes, random collisions, random conglomerations of material that led from goo to Sue, and from muck to Chuck. But as you say, there is suffering in this world, and I would say there is obvious "unjust" suffering and even death of the meek by selfish, narcissistic people who care about themselves at the expense of others. But if everyone dies and is permanently extinguished as reductionist materialism leads you to believe, then there is absolutely no point to the world. Instead, if this lack of purpose is true, then the world is absolutely absurd. We come into the world meek and helpless, guarded and nourished by our parents, we grow into adulthood, live for whatever the alloted time is, and then are permanently annihiliated. That is what I grew up with, in any case. By age 20 (way back in the 1970's) I feel into hopeless depression, and I flunked out of university for electrical engineering. What is the point? We are all going to be dead forever.
Skipping over a lot, I eventually started contemplating the possibility of an Almighty Creator and ultimate Judge of humanity. Please understand, I was not looking for "religion" but for an actual living relationship with the Almighty Creator, if such a being existed. In short, I humbly sought the Almighty Creator -- if he existed -- to communicate with me in a way that I could clearly understand that he was actually in communication with me. This involved a long, subtle course of life experiences, with some direct and instantaneous answers to "prayers" to the Almighty. In one of the earliest experiences of communication, the Almighty told me in articulate words, "Go, buy a Bible, and read it." The point was that I was told to study the Bible. I was not told to join a particular Church, or to seek out a particular religious authority. So, I began studying the Bible, learning about the original message in the original context in which all the books of the Bible were written. So, in short, I've become a convinced disciple of the Almighty Creator, dependent on the great redemption provided by the Lamb of God -- Messiah Jesus the Son of God incarnate in flesh about 2,000 years ago -- and always trying to be led by the promised living Holy Spirit.
I have looked at the major worldviews (there are about seven major worldviews) and the major religions of the world. Everyone is called to stop for a time and honestly look and seek the truth of reality. That is how I will end this post -- that you can find the Almighty, if you humbly and earnestly seek to know him. God bless.
