  • Next week marks 80 years since the D-Day landings, which are seen as a crucial turning point in World War Two.
But it could have ended in disaster were it not for a weather report from Ireland.
The forecast, from a 21-year-old postmistress Maureen Sweeney, postponed the offensive by two days, saving thousands of allied lives.
Sky's Senior Ireland Correspondent, David Blevins, reports from County Mayo.

Rip to all the heros, thanks to all the soldiers, both of my great grandfather's were sergeant majors and one was a prisoner in the war. What they would want is all foreigners to leave the country they fought and died for, they'd want all politicians in prison, they'd want university's completely changed, and England to go back to being tough, right wing and great again

Never fails to amaze me, the amount of little stories thst played a part in the allies eventually winning the war. Winning is a terrible word. Nobody won anything.

Weather often sabotages history. We got lucky on D-Day. Sometimes though others don't. History is full of incredible events, like this.

Size of the army the Anglo's faced on the western front in 1944 compared to the size of the army the Russian's defeated on the eastern fronts, not in the same ball park.

Most of the Luftwaffe and all of the Kriegsmarine were faced by the western allies, as well as 1/3 of the panzers.
Most German Army divisions in the East were second rate poorly equipped non mechanised horse drawn rabble.
5 of the 7 Waffen SS Panzer divisions were in Normandy. Normandy saw the densest concentration of German armour ever deployed in WW2. More German tanks, assault guns and tank destroyers per mile than anywhere else, particularly around Caen.

Whenever u hear anyone talk about the queen ,
Every one’s mind automatically pictures Elizabeth
    Who just passed away
The gravitas of the name queen definitely does not fit Camilla in the least
    Sorry
But I feel the whole country and world feels this way
    The queen has gone
    So
    Wind royal family down now
