The original german song is about a man being driven from his love by economic misery. Elvis sings this song with heartfelt compassion.
It's like Czech polka song "Škoda lásky" (Pity of love), which is by lyrics sad, melancholic, but so... happy by music, so Germans made it's own version "Rosamunde", which is heartwarming by being fallen in love with girl. Americans also made it's own version "Beer barrel polka", which is more celebrating.
My mother was German, my father was an American Soldier for over 22 years!! I so remember my mother loved this song and Elvis!!

This song has a very special place on my fathers side of the family. My family comes from a very long German line, and when my grandpa was younger. His dad would always sing this song, and fast forward to current day. If you’re ever in his pickup truck with him, and you listen closely. You can hear my grandma softly sing this song to himself, among a fe either Elvis songs. But wooden heart is the more common one!💖
