I love how they are able to capture me blend both the Beatles and Syd Era Floyd into this loving and silly video. The oil projections (Floyd) the creepy costumes (Beatles) the overall playfulness and art school vibe of the video (Beatles/Floyd). I am 35 but discovered the Beatles in elementary school and became obsessed (I cried watching a documentary when it got to their breakup). I remember being challenged at first by the psychedelic era of my favorite band, but then embracing it as my favorite era. I owned only two full Beatles albums apart from my anthologies (red and blue albums), Sgt. Peppers and Magical Mystery Tour. I still love those albums.
My type of musical knowledge and taste what a distinguished gentleman. I’m 25 and was bottle fed all of that and zeppelin, who, all the way to god damn weather report, and don’t get me started on funkadelic. Our generation of popular music is literally a flaming pile of three note garbage.
This is done with such love, respect and British silliness. I was entranced from the day it was released. There ain't half been some clever barstewards!
Andy, Colin, Dave and Peter, you are such magnificent Dukes! Kudos to producer John Leckie, who used nothing but vintage 60's recording gear to record and mix the Dukes to recapture their moments in time, in glorious mono!
Not really, the first were the Damned with their side band Naz Nomad and the Nightmare on '84, the (well, big) difference it's they only did 2 original song and the rest were just covers
@@Kiharu4Reinbou I had both at the time, and I was (AM) a big fan of the pair of them. I tried to trick my friend at the time that I had found old classic, lost albums lol but he didn't fall for it. Something about this reminds me of XTC he said. Bike Ride to The Moon gave it away. So Andy
I still consider Chips From The Chocolate Fireball to be one of the greatest collections of music from any genre. Really. I would kill to see any live footage from this period. I've read that they played at least one show from behind a curtain.
They even went a layer deeper, with 'lost' demos of this song and others from 25 O'Clock. As the story goes, the lost tapes were from a few years earlier (circa 1964), and were 'discovered' shortly after the 25 O'Clock songs came out. The lost demos sound very similar to 1964-era Beatles.
I had my stereo stolen with this LP on the turntable in 1986. Framed the cover after that in honor of the missing disk. I am so tickled to see the entire video after all these years. I have often said that the 80's were made more bearable by following XTC. Loved their look back to the 60's- absolute genius.Thank you for sharing this.
XTC - remember them? The 'smart' critics rubbished Sgt Rock (some even Senses working overtime); Andy and the boys were screwed over big time by Virgin (allegedly - I just can't quite remember where i read that reference Yer Honour, but read it i did, so it aint just me that's sayin it). But, soft! what sounds through yonder Mirsch speakers break? Ill tell you - its Andy and Dave two of the most mellifluous guitarists in any band. Andy Partridge's lyrics are sublime (but they were always a band and worked as a team). Born in 50s Ireland, I'm a child of the 60s and remember Psychedelia - DoS took it, satirised it (even better than the Small Faces) and lovingly pimped it for the end of the century and without plagiarizing or copyright infringement. Andy and the boys are profoundly underrated, immensely talented and they have always made me Stupidly Happy. Live Long and Prosper XTC/DoS
There are very few bands (songwriters) who have such a wholly unique catalogue and yet show their influences so obviously. Partridge is gifted in too many ways to count; Moulding's pop-craft remains remarkable in a landscape of throwaway radio hits. I will risk being a pop snob by saying (as some others on this thread might) that they were too clever by half.
XTC not screwed by Virgin but by their manager who failed to negotiate expected royalty increases with Virgin as their popularity increased. Basically, they were still getting newbie royalties still after 6 albums
Did Virgin screw them? Did their manager screw them? Both, really. Then Andy's health kept them from touring and Virgin never really promoted them after that. Andy has been quoted as saying "Most bands those days sold out for ten pounds and a can of beer. We're still waiting for our beer."
there is a great quote from paul mccartney, he was asked what it was like being in the greatest band of all time, and he replied i nust be losing me memory, i don't remember ever being in xtc.
I love trippy music and this is no exception. Very impressive stuff. The Beatles in their psychedelic heyday could not pull it off better than this. Wonder what the reaction that the remaining Beatles had to this.
They once asked McCartney, what's it like being in the greatest band of all time? He replied, I must be getting old cause I can't remember being in the band X.T.C
Thanks KPCMediaUK for posting this. The debut album by Dukes of the Stratosphere was brilliant, definitely one of the best and most convincing psychedelic albums of all time.
This was the perfect aglam of .uk new wave going back to its earliest floydian realm xtc many of them did it in the 80s first ep album is great Andy partridge was in an actual 60s freak beat group in 1967 like the police guy dandelions chariot
Just bloody brilliant all the way through! Nice resolution and sound too! It's nice Andy & Colin didn't get sued for plagiarism - it's a testament to the artfulness of their tributes to the 60s psych greats.
Thanks KPCMediaUK for posting this. Amazingly well done video. The debut album by Dukes of the Stratosphere was brilliant, definitely one of the best and most convincing psychedelic albums of all time.
The Dukes inspire the desire to fire up your creativity. What a band, what an album...I remember the first time I heard it as a young man! I hope one day to duplicate the effort! Wahi'
Thanks Nick Kennerley for posting this gem. Not only is this a brillant friendly parody of one of my favourite Beatles songs, "I am the Walrus" (visuals and music), it's a great and beautiful song in it's own right.
This is fantastic. I remember seeing this before although it was an incomplete clip and I think it stopped after the horse fell over. That was before I grew to appreciate XTC and their alter egos as well.

Grasshopper, you have become astute, having gathered much knowledge!
the greatest 60s band ever to emerge in the 1980s :D
There were some other good ones though: czcams.com/video/OT7BJQFtOZ0/video.html
80s? What do you mean? They only made two LPs and a couple of EPs in the late 1960s then vanished.
Don't you know this ain't no sixties band , actually are XTC
Wonderful LP
@@davidsanderson5918 This is XTC under a different name. It was made in the mid-80s.
This is done with such love, respect and British silliness. I was entranced from the day it was released. There ain't half been some clever barstewards!
"Rudely shattered by the strange psychedelic sounds of..."
I was already rolling on the floor. Brilliant.
The manor will never be the same again! Toss all that aristocracy stuff out the window!
Andy, Colin, Dave and Peter, you are such magnificent Dukes! Kudos to producer John Leckie, who used nothing but vintage 60's recording gear to record and mix the Dukes to recapture their moments in time, in glorious mono!
I bought the record in 1985 and it´s still one of the best psychedelic records I know at all! They were the first ones who did that then.
Not really, the first were the Damned with their side band Naz Nomad and the Nightmare on '84, the (well, big) difference it's they only did 2 original song and the rest were just covers

Now let me jump in here. There was already Nick Nicely with Hilly Fields in 1982.
The loss of XTC as a musical force cannot be underestimated.
this is one of the best music videos ever made, id kill to see it in hd.
You kids and your desperate need for HD.
if this came out back in late 60's, it would end up being an international hit......
I love that Magical Mystery XTC Tour!

Yesterday, a friend found me listening and singing this awesome song.
She ran away without saying a word.
Best Rutles influence ever
This is certain to last a lunchtime.
The Mole From The Magical Ministry Tour
Bless those Dukes. A truly fantastic song.
All the Duke’s records are great 25 O’clock, and Ps onic pSunSpot

Of all the 80s artists who tried to sound 60s, this has to be the most authentic, right down to the quality of the film.

As a Mole, my life is now complete.
Dukes of Stratospear songs were epic.....Chips from the Chocolate Fireball is one of my favorite albums.
love it. I'm here because of a dave grogory interview. This was one of his top 3 compositions. Glad i found this 😍
What a wonderful song a pastiche, tribute and classic all in one, clever and lovely. Hats off to Swindon’s finest
It's high art when a parody is better than the thing being lampooned. Love the Dukes!
Lovingly parodied.
This is parody, but tribute, too. And no, it is very good but NOT BETTER than Magical mistery tour and the syd barrett's singles of pink floyd.
This is definitely cousins with I am the Walrus
Love the Magic Mushroom COLOURS at 4.37.💜🎶🎸🍄🍄🎶🍄🍄❣🎵🍄🍭🎉🥁🎶🎤🎪🎭🎨🎹🎶🌈🎶🍁🍂💮🍄
i bought this in the 80s knowing it is a look back to the sixties beatles/pink floyd still love it

I had no idea there was a video for this song. this is pretty great.
Neither had I. It reminds me a bit of See Emily Play, Syd Barret, and Matching Mole too.
Cheers dogmeat - we drank lots of tea before we made this. Glad you enjoyed it.
I'm sixteen but I love this music. I find that the psychedelic music of the 60 is better than contemporary and commercial music.
XTC should have ruled the world. What went wrong?
Mr. Partridge had stage fright
not quite true he makes music for tv shows and runs a studio in swindon.
Didn't stop The Beatles... but then, they had great backing from EMI.
the public bought Janet Jacksons record :/
"the public bought Janet Jacksons record :/" are you sure it was the same public?
there is a great quote from paul mccartney, he was asked what it was like being in the greatest band of all time, and he replied i nust be losing me memory, i don't remember ever being in xtc.
I just sit here watching it over and over. I can't get enough! Thanks so much for posting!
This song resonates with my subconscious and wholeheartedly mirrors my own psychedelic experiences.
I remember people in the 1980s talking about the "Paisley Underground."
This song conjures intense memories of the 60s-via-the-80s for me.
this could be perfectly a song of the Beatles on their 1967 psychedelia era and it would be one of their best , Brilliant !!!
I hear and see "I Am The Walrus", "Strawberry Fields", "A Day In The Life" and "Arnold Layne".
maybe some Stackridge too, and even a visual shout out to The Peanut Butter Conspiracy
or The Moles "We Are The Moles" from 1968
They make me think of Scaffold if they decided to imitate the White Album era Beatles.
Stating the obvious: That's because Dukes of Stratosphear (actually XTC) is a '60s psychedelia tribute band
MMT
Great! The Mole from the Ministry (...is always in sercice...) - one of the best Dukes songs and one my favorite of the DUKES!
I love trippy music and this is no exception. Very impressive stuff. The Beatles in their psychedelic heyday could not pull it off better than this. Wonder what the reaction that the remaining Beatles had to this.
Probably something along the lines of "By jolly Governor! This is some trippy stoff"
The Beatles did it first, and this is an obvious homage to Syd-era Floyd and The Beatles. I'm sure the remaining members would like it.
They once asked McCartney, what's it like being in the greatest band of all time? He replied, I must be getting old cause I can't remember being in the band X.T.C
This is just brilliant. Some of the very best stuff by the boys from Swindon!
Thanks KPCMediaUK for posting this. The debut album by Dukes of the Stratosphere was brilliant, definitely one of the best and most convincing psychedelic albums of all time.
BY FAR, the BEST song from the 1980s.
the 60s were alive & well in the 80s
This is the by far the best album from the psychedelic 60's that wasn't!

always loved this, magnificent .....
Andy partridge is a genius. He left his mark .achieving cult status.what more would a musician want? Its great music!
I did quite a few trips to this album :)
One of the best videos ever.
I have always thought in the back of my mind cheese and onions
If one where to tell my Andy Partridge was an alien with musical superpowers, I would believe it.
this plays so well with what matt berry is doing in 2021...timeless yet more 60s than iron butterfly!
Blimey !
You don't see videos like this anymore !
The world was maybe bad... but for me, it has gone really bad now !!!

reminds me of Strawberry Fields video
And I Am the Walrus even more.
Good info to watch thanks
and that's why they're absolutely brilliant
One of the greatest videos ever.
The Arnold Layne in this video is quite evident, especially at the end. Taken right from Pink Floyds video. Nice job.
Jason Arnett It references the Strawberry Fields and Magical Mystery Tour videos mainly.
Also The Beatles of course! I Am The Walrus on Mag Myst Tour, and Strawberry Fields video.
At last the whole thing!!!! been searching for this for years! Thank you
... full of silly intellect .. a marvelous treasure, so glad to see

Magical Mystery Tour / I Am the Walrus / Strawberry Fields Forever. They're all over this track.
The Magic Psychedelic 1960s, recreated as it was..Mellotron and all...
Fantastic!
Ha-ha, they reminded me "The Ruttles", clips
Thxy,Nick!😘👍
With those mole masks they were clearly having a blast channeling Alex DeLarge and his droogies, most especially the "surprise visit" scene.
Stunning..........Cheers for this F.A.B. video.

Fabulous. Thanks!
What a great band!
Magical Mistery Tour
Magical Mystery realness!
Lucy in the sky with diamonds, I am the Walrus, and Strawberry fields forever.

I got 'Chips from the chocolate fireball' 17 years ago as a teenager and still play it all the time-brilliant,prefer it to much of XTC's stuff.
Thanks Trapper!
