I just wanna say thank you for this cause every stupid news site keeps saying you need those other quests or you need to clear the game once for the basic ending first which just isn't true. I think they just did everything and added it all together without checking the tapestry individually after each check. The armor and weapon collection isn't even needed for the Erlang fight so in theory you could finish this before chapter 6.

The animation is a reverse order of this journey which implicates Wukong will find his free will again. I guess there will be another true ending by different choice during the game after playing the 3rd round.

Erlang is the sincerest friend we always wished for, but hardly ever met. Wukong and Erlang used to be peers when Wukong served in the celestial palace, despite their huge difference in identity (Erlang is the military general while Wukong is merely a "horseman"). The horseman is the lowest rank "celestial official" in the celestial palace but the naive Wukong used to think it was a big deal, until he later found out when he was not invited to the fruit tasting ceremony (apparently due to his insignificant identity), and learned that his job assignment was barely an insult from the lord Yu Di, as the celestials thought Wukong was only a filthy lowlife creature and does not deserve a place in the majestic Celestial Palace. Wukong got provoked when he found out the truth, he then made a huge mess in the palace, fled away, and paid a visit to the East Sea Palace and took the [Sea stabilizing "pillar"] (or "needle" in its direct translation) from the sea palace which later became his weapon - the infamous monkey king bar. He then declared war to the Celestial Palace, Where Wukong also battled with Erlang (Er lang actually subdued Wukong in the end but it was with the help from other celestial Tai Shang lord). Er lang's third eye is actually called the [Heaven's eye] which Erlang can break through any delusion and see the truth (kind of like Wonder woman's Lasso of Truth), I guess that is where Erlang learned about Wukong's true nature - rebellious but with kind heart, dare to challenge and protect the average from the unfairness. If you pay close attention to Erlang's speech and facial expression in the beginning scene, the actions or trials he put on the protagonist and the final words he said to him before pushing him back in the shrine in the "good ending", you will know his brotherly love for Wukong and how he wished to spare Wukong from being controlled (the headband) by the corrupted bureau - Celestial Palace. Wukong is dead but what perished was only his body, his unfaded will and consciousness is retrieved and succeeded by the protagonists through his own journey and Erlang even said his (protegonist) journey has just began. Lastly, some may ask, if Erlang is all about to challenge the corruption in the Celestial Palace, why didn't he stand up against the Lord Yu Di himself. Well. He is Yu Di's nephew. The oriental mythology largely preserve the characters and virtue value of the east - Filial, unlike the greek mythology - incest and slaughtering within the family (just kidding). Good summary, and to other people who don't know how to properly correct info. Erlang Shen truly was like a brother to Wukong. Erlang Shen saw that Wukong had the same beliefs as him and did not want to obey the laws of heaven. However, Erlang Shen had respect for at least their power and his uncle (the Jade Emperor) while Wukong did not. While having drinks and a good time as brothers, heavenly captors went to subdue Wukong while he was unguarded. Erlang Shen was furious with them. Of which he simply said this was the wrong way of doing things, dishonorable and cowardly. Wukong was surprised by this and so said "Among all those in heaven, I consider you worthy to be called a real Man. If we are truly destined, one day we shall face each other again as equals in battle." So yes, Erlang Shen was likely the only being worthy to be called his brother at that time.

There are 81 endings to mimic the 81 tribulations Sun Wukong experienced during his grand journey. The first normal ending, then the remaining 80 are unlocked after.

Right before he fights the Four Heavenly Kings, the horn blares. It felt like a nod to the Dagger Society theme, that kind of become Wukongs theme after Stephen Chow used it.

Well complaining about it is valid because it highlights the issue, but no need to wail on it too hard because of the reasons you said. They've made such a good game such at a small prize. People just got used to the quality games like Baldur's Gate 3 or Elden Ring quality that they expect it to be almost flawless. I think they've done well above to what the "Quadruple A" quality that the AAA studios isn't coming close recently.
This is the ending where Wukong reclaim his memory. All those are flashbacks in his journey to the west. Where the final scene is where it is start, when he rose against heaven before thrown and imprisoned beneath "Five Finger" mountain.

Our player character IS Wukong but not at the same time. He's Wukong's mind given a new body, and in the end, he beats and joins with the husk of Wukong becomes Sun Wukong again.
One of the most epic boss fight I've ever seen, it's come close with Final Fantasy 16 and Asura Wrath as one of the best boss fights. The smooth transition between cutscenes during the fights is really amazing. It's so cool seeing characters, feats and places of JTTW finally be reimagined.
No, the animation quality is quite poor. Can't you notice the sword glitching through the main character? It's completely bugged and resembles an Asura fight scene - nothing remarkable, it's just that people are too mainstream and follow trends.

So what we know now is, the 1st normal ending is the destined one winning over the “stone monkey” aka sun wukong, had the golden band wore over his head AGAIN. He then “reincarnated” back into the stone on top of the huagou mountain. The above proves that the history is going to repeat again, however this time round, with the knowledge knowing that he will never get his head band remove, so instead of repeating the whole thing again, this time round, before the Buddha can confine him under the 5 finger mountain, he will will make sure he rack true havoc on the celestial court, perhaps killing everyone instead of showing mercy. Since we all know no one can beat him. All these, for freedom. The true ending or the 2nd ending shows the destined one not wearing the headband after defeating the “stone monkey” meaning to say he is ready to break free from the headband in his next cycle of reincarnation. And the lady in white dress shown in the last part of the animation is WuKong’s lover.. “BaiGuJing” aka white bone lady.. in the actual novel Wukong hit her 3 times, and the ending shows the old monkey said in the ending, “3 times he broke her into pieces, convincing himself his heart will ache no more” meaning, he hit his lover 3 times in order to obtain freedom aka buddhahood, as for wukong, freedom above love. However only to find out that they are never going to remove his head band even after Buddha hood. The result after completing the journey to the west, isn’t what wukong wants, what he wanted was freedom. And he didn’t get it.. so the only way for him to remove the head band that can control him, is to re-write history.. this time round on his own terms. After the defeat of Erlang, the guy with the 3rd eye, Erlang mentioned “my brother tested you on my behest, all for this day” meaning he and wukong are good “brothers” fighters respect fighters, and at the starting scene of the game, when Erlang’s dog went to intimidate Wukong, Erlang actually called his “dog”, “stupid dog”. All Chinese will know that the “dog” and Erlang were very close, this shows that a Erlang is closer to WuKong. And Erlang is a celestial god, so he has to follow orders, but he too knows what wukong truly desires, and before the 1st wukong with the headband was defeated by Erlang, he mentioned in the anime, “watch me remove the band” meaning Wukong being a Buddha already knows how to remove then band, hence before he fights the celestial court again after being granted 500 years to immunity, he was actually coming up with a solution to break free, once he knows how, he went to challenge the court again, knowing he will “lose” and the destined one will appear after, and the “fight is his to win”. What wukong did was to show erlang that if he were to fight him without the curse of the headband, he would had won, hands down 😂, Which he did as the destined one, without the headband. At the starting scene of the game, Wukong mentioned to Erlang “All these years, except for the pig (ZhuBaJie), you’re that one that talks the tallest tales. Good! I’m entertained” so meaning to say, Wukong and Erlang talked about WuKong’s desire to be free before, after Wukong obtained buddhahood. And Erlang being a good buddy doesn’t want the 1st Wukong to be gone, or die. Ok that’s my understanding.. 😂

So you can think of the stone wukong as a lingering spirit that doesn’t wants to be forgotten, and seeking a new path, hence staying in his stone, awaiting to be reincarnate/start all over again, so to break free from the headband curse. And let’s not forget WuKong was born from a stone, before he got his name as Sun WuKong, he was just a monkey born from the stone, hence the name Stone Moneky The “wukong” you play is also wukong, think of it as a reincarnation of the real wukong years after he was defeated by Erlang as shown in the start. This player “wukong” is set on the path to learn the truth, on the betrayal the heavens did to the original wukong. The old monkey said, something like, “many tales had been told about wukong, that he complete his journey to the west and obtain Buddhahood, or that he never existed, or that he is just a folklore, or that he die during the journey to the west.” Being a Buddhist, I would think of it as, WuKong had re-run his life many times, trying to do good, but the heavens had failed him so many times, and he finally decided to break free from the curse. Completed the journey - the tales we read when we are a kid, but still gets betray by god. Never existed - maybe he try not to stand out and wants a life of peace, but maybe the heaven still sees him as an eyesore and still kills him perhaps? Die during the journey - he try to do things differently, but somehow he still got killed. It’s actually quite a philosophy, no matter what you do, you cannot escape your death, and being the most powerful demon himself, he cannot escape the faith that “god” will always want to keep him as their “pet”. That’s why Erlang keeps trying to bring him back to the celestial court at the start of the game.

The novel goes like, after 500years of imprisonment under the 5 finger mountain, the monk, Tang SanZang free WuKong from his imprisonment, with the agreement from the GuanYin (Goddess of Mercy aka a bodhisattva) that WuKong will safe guard Tang SanZang’s journey to the west, in order to obtain “merits”. But in order to keep the monkey from going astray, or behaving badly, GuanYin puts a golden headband on WuKong’s head, and told Tang SanZang that if you think the monkey did a bad thing, recites a “chant” and the headband will gets tight around WuKong’s head, giving WuKong unbearable pain. The gods has to have a way to control the monkey right? 😂

The ending of this English version does not have the background music of the Chinese version, which is really a pity. Maybe foreign players don’t understand that we Chinese players also have to clear the level for that music.
Yeah. Each ending is a continuation to the previous ending. From what I heard the next ending is a continuation of this ending where after the new monkey king leaves the cave after drinking he goes to fight the celestial army by himself since all his old comrades are dead. That's the scene we saw a bit of in one of the old trailers where the main character is fighting heavens army above the clouds.

It is a reverse order of JTTW. You can tell from the timing when head band is on its head. The last scene where his fellow are gone, leaving the weapon is the moment before the intro fight.

Man I used to watch Journey to the west as a Kid, this game is truly the embodiment of Sun Wukong as he is known in tales. Even thoigh i cannot play it, one day i will.
I see many people who don't understand the meaning of Fa Tian Xiang Di, so I'll explain: Fa Tian Xiang Di is also the name of a magical power in "Journey to the West". Using this magical power will allow the caster to transform into heaven and earth, imitate the scale of heaven and earth, imitate the sky, imitate the earth, be as tall as the sky, as wide as the earth, and imitate the size of Pangu. I find it neat how most people find the fire wolf transformation and sticks with it throughout the game, and the bosses seem to know and react to this with special lines lol. It's like he's an optional companion.

Thats a rumor. Not fact. It's being spread by piss babys who haven't beaten the game yet to troll people into thinking they haven't beaten it yet. Similar to Elden Ring players saying players who used summons didn't beat the game. Which is stupid because most quest lines require you to summon someone. All games with multiple endings have multiple endings for a reason. They're choices. In wukongs case it's a chronicle of endings, going one by one. None of them are true, but all of them are possible. That's the whole point of Buddhism. Nothing is predestined, everything reflects from your choices.
This game is incredible, I found the first 6 hours or so meh, then it opens up and the moves open up, and it turns into an extremely difficult game to put down. This developer made a gem.

so basically 2 ending so far. destined one is wu kong’s mind go looking for his other 5 relics. after the destined one (wukong’s mind) defeated the stone monkey he collected all relics and reborn again. ending 1: Wukong accepted his fate and allow the old monkey to put that ring over his head and became a servant to the god. ending 2: Wukong didn’t accept it and plan to go to heaven to destroy the palace 2nd time.
i was expecting these level of fights in gow ragnarok but it disappointed me, even kratos vs thor fight is also not upto my expectations, elden ring had great boss fights but that game is too difficult for me ,black myth wukong is the perfect game which has met my expectations with less complex gameplay and difficulty,thanx game science for this awesome game
So, this ending is still not the final ending, cause this ending ( while he isn’t wearing that thing that the old monkey is about to put it on him) is all about retracing the story of the journey to the west.

i think what happened here were that. there are acctually 7 relics: Eyes, Ears, Nose, tonge, body, mind and memories. as a powerful immortal, the physical sense, relics, of Sun Wukong are ever lasted. the mind always seeking peace and be able to pass away. but the memories are differents. memories of a person can only lasting when they were kept in someone else. someone close. in the 1st ending, we have all 6 relics. we have every essence of Sun Wukong. but we didn't have the memories, didn't live his life. we are not him. that is why the old mind fate away and we got seal inside the stone egg, everything unique to us, erased, so we can be hatched again as the new Sun Wukong, fresh, pure like a blank slate. but in this ending. we gained his memories. the old mind accept us, let us live through Sun Wukong lifes. we and him merged together into one new being.

The new God of War series has switched to an over-the-shoulder camera perspective, which greatly limits the epic feel of the visuals. Meanwhile, Santa Monica Studio spent too much time on map design and guidance, leading to a shortage of boss battles. On the other hand, Black Myth: Wukong put a lot of effort into creating grand-scale scenes; as a result, there are many issues with map design and guidance.

Also the director being so hell bent on this one camera shot throughout the whole game thing. They wanted it to feel like a movie, and didnt have the time or resources to create those epic boss battles or varied enemy design. Meanwhile Wukongs developers main focus was combat gameplay.
It is not just like multiple endings. The player has to go through proper boss fights alongside with storyline. He has to fight with four heavenly gods and erlang shen first. And then, the stone monkey who is more powerful than former plot enermies - four ones and erlang shen. Only then, the fight between the destined one and the shell of the Great Sage continues and eventually the destined one collects all of wukong's relics and wins the battle fair and square
The animation, the lore, the boss designs, the MUSIC ( my favorite part ), the combat, everything is a 10 for me, except the map design and lack of direction, but I play on PC and we will get a mod for that probably, this is game of the year for me, it's nor just a game, it's an piece of ART.

The timeline you are depicting would be right. In the source tale, Erlang Shen really first shows up or matters when Wukong was rampaging in the heavens, that is the first encounter with him. The next time he appears is much later, where he's by coincidence an ally to Wukong against a dragon king and the nine-headed bird demon.
Erlang turned back and attacked player because he sensed Four Heavenly King is near, in this story, Erlang is a good friend or even brother of Wukong, and Four Heavenly Kings are like lapdogs of celestial court, they sent Four Heavenly Kings to watch over Erlang Shen, not to assist him, he had to play the part and attack the player, to convince the court that he's loyal.

I just wanna say thank you for this cause every stupid news site keeps saying you need those other quests or you need to clear the game once for the basic ending first which just isn't true. I think they just did everything and added it all together without checking the tapestry individually after each check. The armor and weapon collection isn't even needed for the Erlang fight so in theory you could finish this before chapter 6.
I'm assuming the gold guy is the needed boss for area 1? Or is there another secret boss?

The animation is a reverse order of this journey which implicates Wukong will find his free will again. I guess there will be another true ending by different choice during the game after playing the 3rd round.

Erlang is the sincerest friend we always wished for, but hardly ever met.
Wukong and Erlang used to be peers when Wukong served in the celestial palace, despite their huge difference in identity (Erlang is the military general while Wukong is merely a "horseman"). The horseman is the lowest rank "celestial official" in the celestial palace but the naive Wukong used to think it was a big deal, until he later found out when he was not invited to the fruit tasting ceremony (apparently due to his insignificant identity), and learned that his job assignment was barely an insult from the lord Yu Di, as the celestials thought Wukong was only a filthy lowlife creature and does not deserve a place in the majestic Celestial Palace.
Wukong got provoked when he found out the truth, he then made a huge mess in the palace, fled away, and paid a visit to the East Sea Palace and took the [Sea stabilizing "pillar"] (or "needle" in its direct translation) from the sea palace which later became his weapon - the infamous monkey king bar. He then declared war to the Celestial Palace, Where Wukong also battled with Erlang (Er lang actually subdued Wukong in the end but it was with the help from other celestial Tai Shang lord).
Er lang's third eye is actually called the [Heaven's eye] which Erlang can break through any delusion and see the truth (kind of like Wonder woman's Lasso of Truth), I guess that is where Erlang learned about Wukong's true nature - rebellious but with kind heart, dare to challenge and protect the average from the unfairness.
If you pay close attention to Erlang's speech and facial expression in the beginning scene, the actions or trials he put on the protagonist and the final words he said to him before pushing him back in the shrine in the "good ending", you will know his brotherly love for Wukong and how he wished to spare Wukong from being controlled (the headband) by the corrupted bureau - Celestial Palace. Wukong is dead but what perished was only his body, his unfaded will and consciousness is retrieved and succeeded by the protagonists through his own journey and Erlang even said his (protegonist) journey has just began.
Lastly, some may ask, if Erlang is all about to challenge the corruption in the Celestial Palace, why didn't he stand up against the Lord Yu Di himself. Well. He is Yu Di's nephew. The oriental mythology largely preserve the characters and virtue value of the east - Filial, unlike the greek mythology - incest and slaughtering within the family (just kidding).

Good summary, and to other people who don't know how to properly correct info. Erlang Shen truly was like a brother to Wukong. Erlang Shen saw that Wukong had the same beliefs as him and did not want to obey the laws of heaven. However, Erlang Shen had respect for at least their power and his uncle (the Jade Emperor) while Wukong did not. While having drinks and a good time as brothers, heavenly captors went to subdue Wukong while he was unguarded. Erlang Shen was furious with them. Of which he simply said this was the wrong way of doing things, dishonorable and cowardly. Wukong was surprised by this and so said "Among all those in heaven, I consider you worthy to be called a real Man. If we are truly destined, one day we shall face each other again as equals in battle."
So yes, Erlang Shen was likely the only being worthy to be called his brother at that time.

Well complaining about it is valid because it highlights the issue, but no need to wail on it too hard because of the reasons you said. They've made such a good game such at a small prize. People just got used to the quality games like Baldur's Gate 3 or Elden Ring quality that they expect it to be almost flawless. Our player character IS Wukong but not at the same time. He's Wukong's mind given a new body, and in the end, he beats and joins with the husk of Wukong becomes Sun Wukong again.
One of the most epic boss fight I've ever seen, it's come close with Final Fantasy 16 and Asura Wrath as one of the best boss fights. The smooth transition between cutscenes during the fights is really amazing. It's so cool seeing characters, feats and places of JTTW finally be reimagined.

So what we know now is, the 1st normal ending is the destined one winning over the “stone monkey” aka sun wukong, had the golden band wore over his head AGAIN. He then “reincarnated” back into the stone on top of the huagou mountain.
The above proves that the history is going to repeat again, however this time round, with the knowledge knowing that he will never get his head band remove, so instead of repeating the whole thing again, this time round, before the Buddha can confine him under the 5 finger mountain, he will will make sure he rack true havoc on the celestial court, perhaps killing everyone instead of showing mercy. And the lady in white dress shown in the last part of the animation is WuKong’s lover.. “BaiGuJing” aka white bone lady.. in the actual novel Wukong hit her 3 times, and the ending shows the old monkey said in the ending, “3 times he broke her into pieces, convincing himself his heart will ache no more” meaning, he hit his lover 3 times in order to obtain freedom aka buddhahood, as for wukong, freedom above love. However only to find out that they are never going to remove his head band even after Buddha hood.
The result after completing the journey to the west, isn’t what wukong wants, what he wanted was freedom. And he didn’t get it.. so the only way for him to remove the head band that can control him, is to re-write history.. this time round on his own terms.
After the defeat of Erlang, the guy with the 3rd eye, Erlang mentioned “my brother tested you on my behest, all for this day” meaning he and wukong are good “brothers” fighters respect fighters, and at the starting scene of the game, when Erlang’s dog went to intimidate Wukong, Erlang actually called his “dog”, “stupid dog”. All Chinese will know that the “dog” and Erlang were very close, this shows that a Erlang is closer to WuKong. And Erlang is a celestial god, so he has to follow orders, but he too knows what wukong truly desires, and before the 1st wukong with the headband was defeated by Erlang, he mentioned in the anime, “watch me remove the band” meaning Wukong being a Buddha already knows how to remove then band, hence before he fights the celestial court again after being granted 500 years to immunity, he was actually coming up with a solution to break free, once he knows how, he went to challenge the court again, knowing he will “lose” and the destined one will appear after, and the “fight is his to win”.
What wukong did was to show erlang that if he were to fight him without the curse of the headband, he would had won, hands down 😂, Which he did as the destined one, without the headband.
At the starting scene of the game, Wukong mentioned to Erlang “All these years, except for the pig (ZhuBaJie), you’re that one that talks the tallest tales. Good! I’m entertained” so meaning to say, Wukong and Erlang talked about WuKong’s desire to be free before, after Wukong obtained buddhahood. And Erlang being a good buddy doesn’t want the 1st Wukong to be gone, or die.

So you can think of the stone wukong as a lingering spirit that doesn’t wants to be forgotten, and seeking a new path, hence staying in his stone, awaiting to be reincarnate/start all over again, so to break free from the headband curse. And let’s not forget WuKong was born from a stone, before he got his name as Sun WuKong, he was just a monkey born from the stone, hence the name Stone Moneky
The “wukong” you play is also wukong, think of it as a reincarnation of the real wukong years after he was defeated by Erlang as shown in the start. This player “wukong” is set on the path to learn the truth, on the betrayal the heavens did to the original wukong.
The old monkey said, something like, “many tales had been told about wukong, that he complete his journey to the west and obtain Buddhahood, or that he never existed, or that he is just a folklore, or that he die during the journey to the west.” Being a Buddhist, I would think of it as, WuKong had re-run his life many times, trying to do good, but the heavens had failed him so many times, and he finally decided to break free from the curse.
Completed the journey - the tales we read when we are a kid, but still gets betray by god.
Never existed - maybe he try not to stand out and wants a life of peace, but maybe the heaven still sees him as an eyesore and still kills him perhaps?
Die during the journey - he try to do things differently, but somehow he still got killed.
It’s actually quite a philosophy, no matter what you do, you cannot escape your death, and being the most powerful demon himself, he cannot escape the faith that “god” will always want to keep him as their “pet”. That’s why Erlang keeps trying to bring him back to the celestial court at the start of the game.

The novel goes like, after 500years of imprisonment under the 5 finger mountain, the monk, Tang SanZang free WuKong from his imprisonment, with the agreement from the GuanYin (Goddess of Mercy aka a bodhisattva) that WuKong will safe guard Tang SanZang’s journey to the west, in order to obtain “merits”.
But in order to keep the monkey from going astray, or behaving badly, GuanYin puts a golden headband on WuKong’s head, and told Tang SanZang that if you think the monkey did a bad thing, recites a “chant” and the headband will gets tight around WuKong’s head, giving WuKong unbearable pain.
The gods has to have a way to control the monkey right? 😂

From what I heard the next ending is a continuation of this ending where after the new monkey king leaves the cave after drinking he goes to fight the celestial army by himself since all his old comrades are dead. That's the scene we saw a bit of in one of the old trailers where the main character is fighting heavens army above the clouds.

I see many people who don't understand the meaning of Fa Tian Xiang Di, so I'll explain:
Fa Tian Xiang Di is also the name of a magical power in "Journey to the West". All games with multiple endings have multiple endings for a reason. They're choices. In wukongs case it's a chronicle of endings, going one by one. None of them are true, but all of them are possible. That's the whole point of Buddhism. Nothing is predestined, everything reflects from your choices.
This game is incredible, I found the first 6 hours or so meh, then it opens up and the moves open up, and it turns into an extremely difficult game to put down. This developer made a gem.
The finishers for each of the heavenly gods were so badass.

so basically 2 ending so far. destined one is wu kong’s mind go looking for his other 5 relics. after the destined one (wukong’s mind) defeated the stone monkey he collected all relics and reborn again.
ending 1: Wukong accepted his fate and allow the old monkey to put that ring over his head and became a servant to the god.
ending 2: Wukong didn’t accept it and plan to go to heaven to destroy the palace 2nd time.
there are at least 4 endings. this one is actually the 3rd.

i was expecting these level of fights in gow ragnarok but it disappointed me, even kratos vs thor fight is also not upto my expectations, elden ring had great boss fights but that game is too difficult for me ,black myth wukong is the perfect game which has met my expectations with less complex gameplay and difficulty,thanx game science for this awesome game

i think what happened here were that.
there are acctually 7 relics: Eyes, Ears, Nose, tonge, body, mind and memories.
as a powerful immortal, the physical sense, relics, of Sun Wukong are ever lasted. the mind always seeking peace and be able to pass away.
but the memories are differents. memories of a person can only lasting when they were kept in someone else. someone close.
in the 1st ending, we have all 6 relics. we have every essence of Sun Wukong. but we didn't have the memories, didn't live his life. we are not him. that is why the old mind fate away and we got seal inside the stone egg, everything unique to us, erased, so we can be hatched again as the new Sun Wukong, fresh, pure like a blank slate.
but in this ending. we gained his memories. the old mind accept us, let us live through Sun Wukong lifes. we and him merged together into one new being.
Erlang keeped his mind and memories, give it to the destined one

He didn't beat Wukong, though. They were pretty evenly matched and it ended with Wukong being caught by someone else while distracted by Erlang. If you are going to describe the story, at least know the story first.

I really miss the boss fights from the old "God of War" series. The final boss fight in "God of War: Ragnarok" feels like two old men brawling at the village entrance.

@@Gwyyndolinn I think its more so that Santa Monica wanted to focus so much on the story line and trying to be the Last of us 1.5. Also the director being so hell bent on this one camera shot throughout the whole game thing. They wanted it to feel like a movie, and didnt have the time or resources to create those epic boss battles or varied enemy design. Meanwhile Wukongs developers main focus was combat gameplay.

The player has to go through proper boss fights alongside with storyline.
He has to fight with four heavenly gods and erlang shen first.
And then, the stone monkey who is more powerful than former plot enermies - four ones and erlang shen.
Only then, the fight between the destined one and the shell of the Great Sage continues and eventually the destined one collects all of wukong's relics and wins the battle fair and square

The animation, the lore, the boss designs, the MUSIC ( my favorite part ), the combat, everything is a 10 for me, except the map design and lack of direction, but I play on PC and we will get a mod for that probably, this is game of the year for me, it's nor just a game, it's an piece of ART.
It's a 7/10 at best. The game is plagued with problems.
Man, that Heavenly Kings fight really just went full Attack on Titan and I love that.

Didn't know Wukong fought Erlang twice. Read the novel like more than 15 years ago. Don't remember much.
The timeline you are depicting would be right. In the source tale, Erlang Shen really first shows up or matters when Wukong was rampaging in the heavens, that is the first encounter with him. The next time he appears is much later, where he's by coincidence an ally to Wukong against a dragon king and the nine-headed bird demon.
Erlang turned back and attacked player because he sensed Four Heavenly King is near, in this story, Erlang is a good friend or even brother of Wukong, and Four Heavenly Kings are like lapdogs of celestial court, they sent Four Heavenly Kings to watch over Erlang Shen, not to assist him, he had to play the part and attack the player, to convince the court that he's loyal.
