- As far as eighties comedies go, very few are as beloved as Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. It helped make Keanu Reeves a star, and his chemistry with Alex Winter remains a delight to watch thirty-five years later. But the sequel, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, is probably even better, even if it wasn't as big of a hit. In this compilation, we take a look at Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, and try to determine which of the two stands the test of time the best.

My mom suggested I go see this when I was 15 with a group of friends I had a sleepover weekend with...I groaned at the suggestion and ended up falling in love and fangirling it all these years later and witnessing the development, filming and watching the third installment which debuted on my birthday. Felt like such a meta gift from Bill and Ted themselves. ❤
Alex and Keanu were perfect casting for Bill and Ted, despite being in their twenties when they first portrayed the dim witted, but lovable teens. George Carlin was perfect for Rufus as well.

These movies are a vital part of my childhood, and definitely one of my favourite time travel series. Forget the TARDIS, I always wanted to use the telephone box from this franchise.
The night after I saw this movie I saw that phone booth at the Circle K at the end of my street. Haven’t seen it recently, though.

Growing up with these movies was the shit! All our friends would talk and act like Bill and Ted. Those were some great times to be alive. Party on dudes!!!

I love both films equally ❤️ They are both brilliant classics!! I was lucky enough to be working at a movie theater when Bogus Journey came out in high school! I saw that movie so many times! Cleaning the theater was a blast to that soundtrack!

Bogus Journey had the best ending. The outro music with the newspaper and magazine clips of the immediate and near future showing how they became the figures that Rufus was talking about in the first movie. It showed the birth of a future worth living in and worth possibly causing a paradox to make sure happened.

I still remember seeing Bill&Ted with The Burbs double feature at the Drive-in as a kid...Been a Keanu fan since Dude! Bogus I still have on my free DVD from Pizza Hut... Station!

I was 15 and 17 when these two EXCELLENT movies came out and OF COURSE I fell INSTANTLY IN LOVE with Bill and Ted … I was already a big Keanu fan and also loved Alex as well so these movies were a big part of my teenage years ❤

Just wanted to let you know it’s MAY-sa. And metro center was awesome but was a shell by the pandemic. It was like two shops and indoor playground when COVID rolled through. I grew up in that area, and loved going to hang out there. Over the years there were many attempts to breathe life into the place, but it slowly feel apart. Major bummer, I think they are converting into some sort of office space

My brother and i had Excellent Adventure recorded on VHS from the television. As the years went by, the adverts became just as entertaining as the movie haha
Devil's Advocate was by far my favorite 90s Keanu Reeves movie besides The Matrix.....
The best part is definitely the ending a lot of twists and turns Al Pacino is great has extremely memorable lines it's one of my favorite movies of the 90s
The soundtrack is surprisingly flat out fantastic!
As a GunTuber enthusiast, I can tell you that Keanu went through all of the training and gun courses to master his John Wick form of Gun-Fu. Keanu is legit. He's the real deal now. If you F around with Keanu, you'll find out. And if you do decide to invade his home, whatever you do, do NOT kill his puppy. I can't stress this enough. 😂
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure is my favorite movie. I was 14 when it came out, so I had no adulting to worry about in life. 😁 And as other's have mentioned- BE EXCELLENT TO EACH OTHER should be a world renown philosophy. Party on, dudes!
A great story involved the writers at a fast food joint right before shooting started. They were concerned because they had no part in casting and actually played Bill and Ted themselves in sketch comedy shows before it turned into a film.
They saw two dudes laughing and joking in that fast food restaurant and said 'See? Those guys would have been perfect'.
Unknown to either, it was Alex and Keanu, the leads they hadn't met yet. Once they were introduced days later, they knew the casting was perfect.

The Third one.... Brought it all together and I got the Closure I truly needed.
I know it sounds like a joke or that I'm a lunatic... Though I just may be a lunatic at times, it's no joke.
It's a long long story.... I'm not gonna tell. But even a silly slacker movie can become a Life Altering influence.

I agree about the 90 minute runtime but do you think Oppenheimer would've been any good as a condensed version? or even been feasible as a trilogy?
They're two very fun movies to watch, especially this day and age when every movie has to have 'meaning' and 'thought-provocation'.
I’d say Bogus Journey actually does have a lot of meaning though.
This was the closest Keanu came to playing himself 😂 (other than actually playing himself)
I agree, Bogus Journey was definitely better than Excellent Adventure. The first movie was great, but the second took Bill and Ted to the full extreme of their absurdity and I absolutely love it.
The movie that nobody talks about that they were both also in is the underrated Freaked with Keanu as Ortiz The Dog Boy.
I have all those movies on DVD.

Ppl don't talk about Face The Music all that much. Or the recent comics which are really good.
Excellent Adventure is a classic. Bogus Journey is a divisive classic that I think was hurt by some cuts/changes. Face The Music is hurt badly by cramming the plots for two full movies into a 92 minute run time. One "movie" is the daughters' remake/homage of Excellent Adventure, while the other is the fathers' searching for the song along with the mothers' subplot. Either plot would have worked as a singular movie. Combined as co-main plot lines they needed at least 2 hours run time to live and breath; having only 90 minutes together meant both felt chopped to bits to fit.
There is 2 hours and 25 minutes of film? I want to see this version. I want to see a 2 hour and 25 minute movie of Bill and Ted.
I remember watching "Excellent Adventure" on mushrooms once and losing my mind at how chill everyone was with time travel.
bogus journey is the superior movie i just love it.

Unpopular take, but I've always preferred bogus journey. I like the darkness of it, death is hilarious and jim martin and primus are in it.

Charlie Sheen not a comedian? Major League came out the same year and Hot Shots was a couple years later. Sheen would probably have been the better choice from that list. But Carlin is king. He was the best. There's an alternate reality out there where Sheen did Bill and Ted instead of Major League. lol

The stuff with the step mom is too messed up imo. Very uncomfortable. That might be the point, but it seems to have no purpose existing within the narrative other than to fuel a weird fetish these writers have. Pretty freaking weird, and makes it hard for me to recommend this series to anyone lol
