  • This video explores African women's connection to tattooing and scarification, looking at how that connection was lost as a result of colonization. We follow Jessica Horn and Laurence Sessou on their mission to reverse centuries of colonialism, the erasure of traditional tattoo practices and the impact this has had on women's relationship with their bodies. This story is part of As Equals, CNN's ongoing series on gender inequality. For information about how the series is funded and more, check out our FAQs. #CNN #News

      Simple : After BLM your skin color better be dark enough to ask questions like that. They find power in victim mentality because woke culture facilitates that power, and there is a whole lot of influence to be had in that.
      So if a Black person makes reference to colonialism in regards to something , that means that as white person you are not allowed to question that something , kind of how you are not allowed to question Islam or the Quran. So your critique is not only unwelcomed , you can be sure that it would be matched with you getting ousted, so you better know your place as they say.

      @c7dd2rl5d Africa is decolonized. FYI before colonization most of the continent of Africa were still living in the stone age. Fast forward to today and slavery still exists in Africa. 2000 years ago Rome and most Roman cities had better sewers, better sanitation, and more clean drinking water than most African cities today. Read up on what's happening to Albinos in Tanzania. Seems like decolonizing is working out wonderfully. 😂😂👌👌

      The original Leviticus text reads : וּכְתֹ֣בֶת קַֽעֲקַ֔ע לֹ֥א תִתְּנ֖וּ בָּכֶ֑ם where כְתֹ֣בֶת means "writing" so maybe as a Jew I choose to interpret it that only cheesy tattoo writings are forbidden and Tattoo images are fine for me to wear.

    what nonsense. I was in Africa - the tattoo culture has not gone away, traditional African culture is still there.
    From tattoos and costumes to fairy tales and folk songs.
    They have their own culture, they don’t need Amazon and Netflix to film black people in film adaptations of European fairy tales.
    They are still normal people.

      Um bro , You are way out of line , If we don't get black Geralt in The Witcher 5 ,there would be riots. Need more opportunities for African-American actors, just cause we can't popularize our own fantasy genre doesn't mean we don't get to take over other's.

    • @phantomapprentice6749
      @phantomapprentice6749 Před 6 měsíci

      And more seriously , there seems to be an ongoing African-American identity crisis where they are part of western culture but their roots are not in western culture so they look to change the roots of western culture. In that respect maybe adapting things from African culture where they do have roots is a good idea and maybe Black artists can get inspired by African folklore rather than try to reinvent European folklore. I know that for me if something is good I'll watch it , I don't give a shit if the protagonist looks like me or childish nonsense like that.

    Leviticus 19:28, "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord." Tatooing was something that our people adopted while in captivity in Egypt... that's why the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob commanded them coming out of Egypt to not print marks upon them; basically to not do as the heathen had done.

      She was talking about certain people who were not apart of the culture who would record information and would leave out certain things about the culture that they didn't like. That doesn't mean that the information is lost forever. There were other people inside the culture still passing it down and keeping the traditions alive.

    This has nothing to do with Africa's history with tattoos but everything to do with what's trending, what's the in thing and of course making money. Of course different African cultures have their own history with tattoos but non is what this video talks about, this is all about what's trending and "let's" hitch our wagon on it. It's dreadlocks all over again!
