  • Just a quick update, that I am posting in March 2024. The DecodeME study that I mention in the video has ben postponed by up to one year. This is due to resource issues at the laboratory doing the initial DNA analysis. This is a shame, but still great work going on. Scroll to the bottom of this description and I will link the video of the March Webinar from the DecodeME team - it is quite 'scientific', but I think that the team members are pretty good at putting stuff in terms that people like me can understand.
This is my annual update on my plans for the 12 months ahead. I am very optimistic that there will be some good health news later in the year. All based on solid science and a major bit of DNA research.
Plus, not too many boat projects before Serenity is ready to go back in the water. I'm not going to rush and try and get her back in at the end of Summer this year - Spring 2025 would be more realistic.
The original Health video was back in May 2019 - I accidently said 2018 in the video. Anyway, here is the link if you want to see my original thoughts on what was going on.

Can't wait for the tank building videos. Those should be fun. I hope your health issues get sorted soon and you can enjoy cruising Serenity out there.

There is no guarantee that the holding tank will 'work' - but I really want to give it a try. I am hoping that my new found focus on accuracy is the key. I also intend to pressure test it before it gets used in 'anger'.
      Cheers, Paul

Really glad the health issues are more under control and you sound optimistic which is probably a big percentage of the battle. I hope 2024 is good for you and the final bits on Serenity come good. I once re-made all my standing rigging with Stay-lock in Gibraltar and it was very easy and successful - I had to have the top ends swaged by the yard and it was the swages that failed eventually!.... Found the DNA bits of your 'talk' very interesting - Thank you - Fair winds Michael

Michael, I hope you are doing well. The stay-lock system makes a lot of sense to me. I always feel happier if I've done something myself.
Optimism, plus a plan, always seems to win out in the end.... He said optimistically :)
Ironically, the first computer programme I ever wrote for 'commercial' use was for the University of Edinburgh to help them save expensive computing power to do statistical analysis back in 1978. The University of Edinburgh is doing the number crunching for this research. I'm quite happy for them to throw as much power as they need at this one.

Well done old chap. Looking forward to seeing progress this year. I have bought a boat currently in Lymington and will take her down to Plymouth in a month or so. Just doing the inevitable jobs but intend doing a lot more sailing in 2024. All the best. James

Very long time since I've sailed around Lymington - interesting place. Plymouth is also a very nice place to sail. I worked in Plymouth for a while, and have always had a big soft spot for the town/city.
All the best with the new boat.
