It is strange to see dislikes in your videos. Even if I only care about iconography, your qualities as a universal painter are at a level that few can accomplish. Thank you for your good will to share your thoughts and work.

I am a painter. I"m new to your youtube channel. I have to say I find your videos informative, and so inspiring. And I very much appreciate listening to your musings about painting in general. I would never mute the sound on them. You describe your procedure and your thoughts and opinions in a way that is very clear to understand. You have a very personable and calming way of encouraging your viewers to keep painting. I am grateful I found your channel.

I have watched this tutorial and I thank you so much for all the explanation and demonstration. Your process is an eye opening and I like it very much. I am learning to paint portraits, alla prima and the classical style. I find the classical style better. The layers give better results. It takes a longer time but I’m pleased with the results. I will for sure try your approach. I congratulate you for the time and determination in teaching, sharing and guide us to a different level. I wish you the best and I’m sure your channel as well as your Patreon account will grow in no time. Your approach is amazing and watching you makes it look easier. Blessings, take care and be safe. Greetings from Champaign, Illinois, US. I subscribed to your channel!

Greate work. Da Vinci in oil and Mamling in egg tempera in layers. Just a little sugestion: My impression would be completed if it would be presented your palette work, prior applying the colors on the painting if possible.

I love this! It's really cool how you used tiny brush strokes to do so many layers!
Out of curiosity, do you find gouache and tempera to be similar to work with? It looks like it has a similar color shift to gouache, where the color gets lighter or darker depending on how it sinks into the substrate.

I have a question: is there any rule about it - what color of paint is put on the bottom, under the paint to be on top? Rather darker paint goes to the bottom, but does it have to be somehow defined by its tone in relation to the paint placed on top?

  • @bodeaalex1142

Great tutorial! Yes, there might be some freshness lost in (any) painting process. But you manage to save it when adding the last highlits and the last darks. They pop up on the more blended mass because you apply them quick and in the right spot and more like in a drawing manner (graphical) with not so much blending as before. I think this comes from your icon painting experience. Great you have your dog, take care of him, a dog is a best friend, always!
