A remote island… A shortage of whisky….A ship wreck with a cargo of Uisge Beatha, the water of life.
The inhabitants of a Scottish island try to plunder 50,000 cases of whisky from a nearby stranded ship. A remake of the beloved black and white original film directed by Alexander Mackendrick for Ealing Studios, which was based on the novel by Sir Compton Mackenzie, which itself was based on the real events of 1941 when the S.S. Politician was shipwrecked in the Outer Hebrides leading to a hilarious battle as the wily islanders on nearby Eriskay tried to salvage the huge cargo of whisky on board, enraging the British authorities. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
I remember the original. Didn't need remaking but nice to see Gregor fisher
I invite anyone reading these comments to visit the AM Politician pub on Eriskay - it's a small pub with very friendly staff who, I'm sure, will happily demonstrate one of the machetes they found washed up after the SS Politician crashed nearby. They may even let you sniff a bottle which they found washed up :)
The levity to this film is really charming : )
I want whiskey 🥃
An island full with alcoholics. What could possibly go wrong ?
EDDIE IZZARD REALLY WANTED TO PLAY THE PART OF MRS WAGGETT
It is a great movie. The trailer doesn't do it justice.
Love this film.
Anything with Rab C in it carnt be all bad!
Oh god are you joking me. They filmed it in the town real get next to me. If you want to know the town name the town it's based in is portgordon. Our school has mentioned stuff about it.

Here's as good a place to ask as any. I'm from New Zealand I'm trying to track down a Scottish sorta punky film. Late 90s I think. And there's a character in it, a scottish skinhead called Goebbels. But he's a bit short and at one point one of the pasty scottish lads says, "Ae you're a bit wee Goebbels." I need to find it it's fair doin ma swede in
Best movie about my ancestors. We are born alcoholics in the southern states of the USA.
So it's another movie about alcoholism in Scotland
The magnificent creep what are you talking about? Whisky is a Scottish drink.
The magnificent creep what a fucking spanner
The magnificent creep what the fuck does that have to do with my comment. You big flappy fuck stick
Great movie harmless fun
They should never have remade it... the original is 10,000 times better
It looks like it's Eddie Izzard determined to play it for laughs that will ruin this.
tòr shait
it's just not reaching the 1949 version. I admit music and visuals are brilliant but it lacks the utter charm of Alexander's interpretation
This looks terrible, yet another remake like Dads Army which didn't need making. Part of the charm of Whisky Galore was the real island way of life and accents, this has neither. The music score is really bad from this trailer. Not a film I'll be watching
They even quote Dad's Army in the trailer. Not a good sign!
I think they've actually stuck quite closely by the two minutes I've seen here to the original. I love the original film but lots of my friends don't appreciate the humour I feel this is a good way to keep the same feel of the island life and community but with more modern jokes. Personally I'm really looking forward to this remake.
I'v just been to see it last night and this trailer doesn't do it justice, the movie has a completely different tone, and the dads army quote as shown in the trailer is the most in your face part of the film, the rest of it feels much more natural, and the funniest parts of the film feel like natural parts of conversation, and don't interrupt the flow of the story.
the home-guard character (Eddie Izzard) is an englishman who refers to Britain as England, and its clear that he makes no attempt to integrate into the islands community. As such, he tries to prevent others from looting the whiskey.
it is worth noting that I haven't seen the original, but in my opinion its definitely the funniest film I'v seen this year.
edit: I'v just seen the original, and i was amazed that whiskey galore didn't actually quote dads army, dads army quoted whiskey galore!
Mark Bennett , what?!?!? It looks amazing!?!?!
