Here’s another secret: for years Halton cops have directed their homeless population to neighbouring Hamilton explaining that they’ll receive more generous social services if they get out of town.
Unfortunately not a well Kept secret - Burlington has amazing Women’s shelters & help for people who are displaced from housing temporarily but no systems in place to truly help homeless get back on their feet. 😕
@@glewlew absolutely not ideal but unfortunately I’m not running for any position of authority to make a change 🥺 I do however donate my time & money to help out, which I think more people should do. Or even, just take the time to talk to people on the street vs always walking by & ignoring - some of them have quite the life of stories behind them! If I ever fall on hard times I hope I’m not just shuttled along to be someone else’s “problem”

My point is that Hamilton has the highest residential tax rate in the province, higher than Ottawa, Toronto, London, and yes - Burlington. It would be nice if the city you speak so highly of would pay its fair share of the freight when it comes to this serious social issue. Those nice manicured lawns in Burlington come in part to somebody else’s cost.
