France, Germany and Poland: A New Alliance Against Russia

  • Macron, Scholtz and Tusk have announced a new alliance designed to prevent Russian victory. Behind the facade of unity, there are long historical animocities, past misdeeds, deportations, massacres, and distrust. Here I discuss official policy against the background of popular attitudes, views of Germany in France and in Poland, the ways the Germans perceive their neigbors and the way the Russians see the French, the Germans and the Poles, as well as animocities between the Poles and Ukrainians.

    Hello Vladimirr.
I am an australian citizen but born in Europe of Dutch, german and maybe a bit of Hungarian background, I have visted Europe on and off and found exactly of what you described in your Realpolitik video.
My daughter lives in France and on a visit we interacted with her French friends, I have a broad Australian accent so all was very friendly until one of my young grandsons called me Opa, this happened on a number of different occasions, I asked a Dutch friend about this antagonism between europeans, she replied it is a fact of life and it will never disappear, I made the mistake twice, of mistaking the polish accent for being Russian (you would think I would learn after the first time) the hostility directed against me was palpable.
The good thing is Russia is standing up for herself and by extension for the global South who sees Putin and Russia as their champion and a chance for sovereignty.
    best wishes.

Most of Poles DO NOT hate Russians. They’re our brothers. We share the same DNA, we are Slavic.
Today’s Russophobia was created by media, it’s been progressing since 1989 to manufacture consent for future war Anglo Saxons have been planning against Russia. 30% of the nation fell for it. You can’t even imagine the level of propaganda and historical revisionism taking place in Eastern Europe. Do not put the rest, normal Poles, so 70% in the same bag with those easily manipulated and poorly informed minority. Loud minority but it’s still a minority. I’m a Polish Russian and I grew up in Poland, so I can assure you that I never experienced anything like hatred while speaking Russian being out and about and I lived in Warsaw and spent every weekend at my grandma’s place in a masovian village quite far from the big city.
Polish government ≠ Polish people and that’s not even me saying that, that’s what president Łukaszenka says all the time.
I’ve noticed now The dehumanization of Poles, so when the government pushes people into this war, nobody will feel bad for them. Stop spreading this made up madness; it really doesn’t help, Poles living in the west (like me now) now experience a lot of bs, because of alleged Russophobia. I was called out on it and that person was really sure of himself, not knowing one bit about Slavic brotherhood, shared culture and customs. I responded that actually I AM RUSSIAN as well. They didn’t know what to say and finally apologized.
      Stop generalizing PLEASE.
Surprisingly, the most russophobes indeed live in the west, but they hate Germany, Ukraine, Lithuania and themselves, because they have always been marginalized and used as cheap labor. They’re also not that big in numbers. It’s also caused by huge competition in finding a well paid job. This issue is not as easy as it seems and I’m really saddened when people try to pour more gasoline on this already huge media and c*i*a* created drama.

German economy going down means a recession in France just as well. Another curious thing is after Brexit, plenty of financial houses moved their headquarters from the City to the EU. Paris was one of the potential favourite destinations, but the French couldn't pull it off. Paris taking over London City would have been a coup in finance! It would be interesting to see the exact numbers how the financial emigres dispersed into Europe, but from what I know, some went to Frankfurt, others to Brussels and Amsterdam.

All the EU countries (and the UK too) are rapidly declining in geopolitical influence and economic power. Europe is increasingly just a colonial outpost of the US. Basically, the colonisers of the recent past are rapidly becoming the colonised themselves. This has affected the entire European outlook on the world. They harbour bitter resentment against rapidly rising countries like China and India who they had dominated within the last 100 years. They resent their current status, and resent even more there is little they can do about it. Europeans look down on the rest of the world and also look down on each other. It is a complex situation brought on by its own decline, and the complete lack of any foresight by their elite to reverse the tide. To stem the decline would actually require Europe to drag itself by its own feet, quit being slavish colonies of the US, and start rebuilding economically and start asserting its independent geopolitical interests (which are very different from those of the US). But they are unwilling to do any of these things.

@@panxd26 Because geography (and a measure of geopolitical superiority) protects the US from military invasions. No part of the regular US homeland (the 48 states at the time) was invaded, or even risked invasion, during WW1 or WW2 - Hawaii was still a colony of sorts in 1941, not a full part of the US, and tere were no Japanese landings, just a wave of bombings. Not a single US city or factory district was bombed, occupied or exposed to artillery fire. The US hasn't been exposed to a regular war within its borders since the Civil War 160 years ago. When the US joined WW2 in 1941, they had the option to wait with launching any offensives across the Atlantic until they felt they were ready and had built up enough armament, ships and supplies.

I was in Berlin in Dec89 when the Wall was coming down. What an exciting time! We met kids from all over Eastern Europe and we drank and smoked in cafes and talked about art and the future. We had decided that the only people worried were the Joint Chiefs at the Pentagon and that Thatcher woman... that aside,
During this thaw, there was a move for Germany to reunify. Helmet Kohl took the Initiative. It all seemed to happen over night. The 4 power pact that presided over Germany at the end of WW2 was still in effect. Russia still had veto power and could have stopped the reunification of Germany, It didn't use its veto. In 2923, I thought about this when Germany was sending tanks and arms to Ukraine.... What must the Russians think?
Poland is a different story. Poland would have considerable bitterness towards both Germany and Russia. It was if the entire Polish nation had been moved 200 miles to the West in an accumulations of German territories. German citizens had been expelled. . .The status of the lands had to be legitimized by treaty before the reunification could take place. As for the Eastern parts of Poland taken by Russia, they were attached to Ukraine. Poland still has a valid claim to these territories.

Very interesting video, but I have an alternate theory about one point you mentioned. You suggest that the bourgeoisie in Germany want cheap energy, but in any bourgeois democracy like Germany or the US, the national policy tends to already represent the will of the bourgeoisie. Why is it then that German policy favors US interests in Ukraine? Is the German ruling class spiting their bourgeoisie? No: the German bourgeoisie are part of an international capitalist class and they are already moving their factories to other countries. Why, then, did German leaders originally work so hard to create a German dependence on cheap energy from Russia at the risk of German national interest? Because this is how they appeased their bourgeoisie in the short term, but now that the gig is up capital is fleeing Germany and the average German citizen is left holding the bag after the rich profited for years.

Neither NATO nor the EU are capable of diminishing either of these geopolitical and military facts. Apart from the two viable opposition parties ie; the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and 'A Just Party - For Truth'; there is a minuscule number of street protester types (less that 2% of the population) who are either pro Western pro Navalny liberal activists, or they are the relatively extreme Russian nationalist types who actually think Putin is too soft on the West.

@@vladimirbrovkin4052 And I think you do very well. I don't know how you measure up to your own aspirations but from here you do wonderfully well. And because, as I said, you speak of People.
      No one else does, sadly.
In all the earnest, profound and scholarly discussions nation names: Russia, France, England, Germany, etc. all turn out to mean when you look at what they're talking about, who did what they say the did or will, govts, or claques. Not the people.
They carry this nonsense so far that they make scholarly predictions of what these nations MUST do because of their history and their 'essence' etc,, etc..
All of which the populace are largely unconscious of.
Or when they are conscious of it they certainly don't mean it to go as far as for instance what is happening now in Ukraine or Israel. Do Kiev Ukrainian people want half a million of them to die for the sake of ethnic cleansing of Donbas in order to build a brave new Ukraine? I think not. Do ordinary working Israelis want babies and children etc. crushed to death, blown to pieces in order that they might 'teach the Palestinians a lesson' ? I think not.
To me the missing thing is the voice of the people.
The machinery is in place: democracy. Imperfect as that machine is still it can be used to good purpose.
But the people never could. Too difficult, in truth, and insufficient interest and honestly not enough information.
Now is 2024. All those constraints are gone. Or on the very edge of being gone.
Let 'digital democracy' or 'popular democracy' or 'online democracy' appear and suddenly we're up and running.

that has been the playbook of the British from the start, I do not understand that so many Experts do not see beyond their nose...BREXIT is the elephant in the room that nobody is seeing.......how Johnson stopped the Peace talks and are the drivers of more and more war, which is breaking the economies and social harmony among EU states...this has been their plan......they are suffering Brexit, they cannot go back to the EU as their people have demanded to leave...so they need the union to collapse and create a new union where they can be the top dog.

No, it will take a lot more than disastrous political mismanagement by the Germans to totally destroy the European Union. You write like an English Brexiteer who predicted the collapse of the EU donkey's years ago when it was the European Coal and Steel Treaty. ha! ha! Glad to see the back of the malcontents.

@@cameliaburdusel5766 Do you think the German farmers would allow their government to do a deal with Australia like the English did since Brexit? Welsh sheep farmers are livid. ha! ha!
