Welcome to I Dream in Soap. In this cold process soap making tutorial, I show you how to make a silicone soap mold liner. It's quite long as I do go into how to calculate the size of the 'box frame' and try to give as much information as I can so that you can make your own mold / mould.
I have produced an annotated version of how to calculate all the measurements you need if you would like a copy of it (no charge, just download it, it's just a pdf file). You can download it from my website here:

I try to give lots of hints and tips in all of my videos, so hopefully, you can use some of the techniques in this cold process soap making tutorial in your own soap making.

Cold process soap involves the necessary use of sodium Hydroxide (lye) which is a very dangerous substance. Before attempting and cold process soap making you should ensure you are fully aware of the lye safety procedures and always wear the correct safety equipment when making soap.

This is so helpful Lisa! You are such a fantastic, thorough teacher!!!
One thing I did with my 2 part silicone was added mica to 1 part before I mixed it together so then you could tell when it was evenly mixed
Hey Kassie, that's a great Idea, I do use a silicone colourant with all the moulds I make nowadays and as you say it's a great indicator.
What a brilliant tutorial! That’s another whole new world to explore. Like soap making, I thought silicone mold making was a secret science, until I learned how to make soap- and now everything is possible. Thankyou for sharing this.

Thank you so much for such a lovely comment. You are completely right. I love making things and will always at least to try to make something myself rather than buy if feasible. Good luck making your mold, the inside box is the trickiest (unless you have a handy box already that you like the size of. Make sure you seal up those edges really well, silicone is a master escape artist and will find any tiny gaps. Good luck :-)
I had heard rumor of you having made a video like this…and I finally found it! Thank you so much! Now I can make my custom box AND make a liner for it!

Thank you so much for this! Been trying to find a decent tutorial for making silicone moulds for ages, gonna go buy some foamboard and silicone and give this a go!
Ooh that's excellent news Michelle, I hope it goes well :-)
I love how you explain the steps in your videos. Truly appreciate the information you've been sharing. This is an awesome, well detailed, clear and concise tutorial video. I'm so going to try it but I think I'll make my mold models out of plexi glass. Thank you so much for sharing ❤ 💕 💗 😊 ☺ 💖
Excellent news, I hope they come out brilliantly. Ooh plexi glass sounds great (I presume you work with it a bit?) just make sure you have the seams joined well as silicone squeezes through the tiniest gaps.
Thank you so much for making this silicone mold tutorial. My friend made me several wooden soap molds, and I have been lamenting about how to make silicone mold liners. You are such a talented and generous person. I love your tutorials. Linda. In Millville, Utah.
Thanks Linda, you're welcome. 😍
Always wondered how I can make the mould to fit what I have without having to do liners all the time. Thank you sooooo much for this. You are the perfect teacher.
That's so kind of you to say Deslys thank you so much 😊
THANK YOU!!!! You made the process very detailed and most of all understandable. Off to the hardware store to get some silicone!!!!!!
So pleased you found it useful, hope yours turns out brilliantly
Thank You, I didn't even realize that we could make our own mold's. Totally Brilliant and cost effective ☺️
Thank you so much FoxysHotStuff, I'm so pleased you found the video helpful, it makes it worthwhile making videos when people benefit from them. Stay safe and well :-)
Thank you for giving a very detailed video.. It's really very helpful
I'm so pleased you found it useful :-)
I am as thrilled as others have commented that they are. I use to use a silicone with less tear strength. It was a green one. I have some cherub sculptures that have undercuts and I need a stretchable silicone rubber as the mold. I am so dumb. I never thought of making a wooden case to hold the mold in. Now, I can proceed with my molds. I have about 15 things to make molds of, so you have saved me considerable time!!!
Ooh excellent. I hope it goes well
Thank you for this! Very informative and helpful.
Thank you so much Jane Smith, that's very kind of you.

Hi from Cdmx, Mexico. Thanks for your clear and simple explanation.
Thank you so much. I'm so pleased you found it useful, Stay safe and well :-)
Thank you at first I thought it was going to go on for quit a while but then I saw the reason for all the information in the beginning thanks for sharing your knowledge with us I appreciate you and all the info you share with us 🙏
Thank you for your comment. Yes it's a tricky one trying to decide how much info to put in. I based it on the fact that I would be disappointed if I went to the effort to make a mould and then it produced soap that didn't have smooth sides, or I damaged the soap getting it out of the mould because the silicone was too stiff. But I do appreciate that some people may find it too detailed. Thank you for taking the time to comment and I'm pleased you found it useful
Awesome video! Thank you so much for your time!
Thank you so much Thomasean, that's very kind of you.

@@IDreamInSoap Thank you
Thank you for this video. I’ve been trying to buy one for myself. But seeing your video has inspired my terribly stressed teenager son to try to make one for me himself. As a sort of therapy. Thank you again.
I hope it goes really well :-)
Excellent thank you so much
You are very welcome
Wow, thank you for the video. Obvious now!!! Thanks ⚘
Glad it was helpful, thank you so much, hope you make some fab molds :-)
Thank you i ll try it and let yoy know!! Thank you so much
Excellent, I hope it works out well :-)
Thank you so very much for sharing this!!! I’ve had the idea for quite some time to make my own molds as they are so expensive and I always always think 🤔 I can make that! LOL your video has certainly motivated me to get on it!! You’re a wonderful teacher and so talented!! Thanks again for sharing!!!
That is excellent, once you have made one you will just whip out another one when you need it, it's a great skill to have
Me too, but because it's cheaper for me and the kind of designs I do no one makes silicone molds for embeds or for silicone for molds is something I would like to make for others as well. For my neck of the woods. I'd love to have a5 pound slab mold and a cutter, but i can't afford one yet until I sell some products 1st..
What kind of silicone is best for inside a soap mold and what kind is the best for just embeds?? I've used liquid nails and it was okay..Im confused on what type I need. There rubber silicone, acryllic silicone it can get really confusing..
Your the Best Lisa!! Such a great teacher!!❤❤
@@justaddlivingwater I am absolutely with you on that!! Also, if/when I make a mistake etc. I’d rather mess up a 2lb batch instead of a 5lb! lol 🙂
Thanks for a great tutorial. I can adapt it for another purpose - shallow trays for dehydrating liquidy things like smoothies or stock to make fruit leather and buillon powder etc. Will be even easier. With a shallow edge I don't have to make an inner box but just use a 5-10mm sheet of foam board.
This will work perfectly, it's always so handy to just make a liner just to fit what you need.
Nice tutorial
Hi barbie's craft thank you so much for your very kind comment 😊
