Mayfair Bakery Port Adelaide

Short documentary about much-cherished Port Adelaide Baker Barry Schultz retiring after more than 50 years running Mayfair bakery. But its also the story of Phil Donnelly, the young French-inspired baker who has taken over the business and injected it with his own personality. Barry Schultz gives an insightful interview about his time in the port and its future. A bit of a trip through history, with archival footage, photos and behind the scenes footage of the Donnelly family racing to get the shop ready, days before opening.

I was born in 1961 and lived down the road a bit over the Birkenhead Bridge. I have fond memories of the Port growing up, it was a fascinating place for an adventurous young boy. Unfortunately, nowadays the Port is sad, nothing like it once was glorious loud and busy. I hope that one day the Port will be reborn, reinstate Port Dock Train station replace the torn up tram line, open a new Cinema complex, highlight the Port's history as an attraction. The possibilities are endless what can be done to bring the good times back to the Port of Adelaide

Good to see this. I agree with Mr Schultz, we need to bring the Port BACK to her former glory and then some, and I truly believe that this can be done alongside the larger shops such as Coles and Romeos

Yes! Keep visiting them and drink local coffee in them. Go and get a great pie at Mayfair (or custard tart). Phil is a serious baker. Support young-blood like Phil!

I GREW UP AROUND PORT ADELAIDE AND WHEN YOU GOT A COUPLE OF BUCKS YOU WOULD GO AND GET A PIE OR PASTY FROM MAYFAIR.
THEIR FINGER BUNS WHERE THE BEST
