    Hi Tony, you could not have picked a finer pub to scratch build, when I worked in Bath for a number of years the Saracens Head was less than 100 yards from my workplace. So many a pleasant visit was made this pub..:-)

    Excellent work and a great inspiration. You were right about some older pub doors being smaller. I was born in a house next door to a pub and as I grew up I noticed how customers had to duck when they went in through the front door. It wasn't until much later when someone fitted a 'mind your head' sign. (Memories eh? Thanks Tony.

    Good evening Tony, liking the opening shots of the smoke belching from a locomotive underneath that marvellous roof. So here we go again this time a very interesting and character pub.it never fails to amaze me how much time and effort you put into drawing the stones and I'm sure when the time comes the roof slates, but the texture is what you're after and that's what makes your building stand out. I think patience is one of your outstanding qualities and its reflected in the finish you achieve. I'm looking forward to following your adventures again this year. I'm in Surrey now seeing the Grandkids there so not got a huge amount of time. You and Mrs T continue to look after yourselfs stay safe my friend, Eddy xx

    Hi Tony, always interesting to see the process other modellers employ with scratch building. I agree with your comments re chimneys, I don’t see how they could be chimneys on the front elevation gables, whee would the stacks be? Right through a window, most likely just decorative mouldings I would think

    • @TONYNORTHEASTERN
      @TONYNORTHEASTERN  Před 2 lety

      Hi Andy thank you for commenting. I agree they are decorative mouldings. the very old painting suggests that they could be mouldings. they are few modellers that scratch build. but slowly they are appering on you tube which is great for the hobby. until next time...stay safe Tony

    I just love seeing the smoke under the station roof. This looks like an interesting build, Tony.
    Those roof features may not be real chimneys because they are directly above a window. Where would the fireplace be? They seem to have been made to look like chimneys as they definitely have chimney pots with slotted chimney cowls, as you can clearly see the sky through them. Maybe they are chimneys and have a modern flexible 6 inch flue liner going through the loft and then down to a gas fire in each room. Academic to the build, however.
    If you’re looking for ideas. When you have some spare time, you could start slotting your track for the ‘clickity click’ sound. Just stop when you get bored. It’s like eating an elephant; you do it a bit at a time. The difficult part is deciding on the scale lengths. Scale 30 ft lengths (NER), 45 ft lengths (LNER) or 60ft lengths (BR) or a mixture. Shorter tracks are usually found in stations and sidings.
    How about a cameo at St Hilda Colliery of a Westoe electric loco pulling Harton coal hoppers? Could be fully functional or just a static display. Kits are available but the loco could easily be scratch built. Suitable pantographs are available to purchase. Just ideas, Tony, just ideas. Have a good weekend. Best, Jason.

    • @TONYNORTHEASTERN
      @TONYNORTHEASTERN  Před 2 lety

      Interesting thought Jason, a cameo around the pit.
      I also like the idea of slotting the track. the cuts will have to be so fine and it would make a great sound. something for me to think about thats for sure. its a shame they ripped up the track from westoe to mill dam. that would have been a great tourist attraction for shields. image a train running from mill dam and then onto marsden and the grotto pub....wow
      More heritage lost....I like your ideas....all the best my friend. Tony

    • @Rock_God
      @Rock_God Před 2 lety +1

      @@TONYNORTHEASTERN It is a shame that it’s all gone. It is called progress, apparently. 🙄
      If you decide to slot the track, I would recommend that the main lines be slotted a scale 60 ft (240mm). Less used areas and St. Hilda could be slotted at 30ft or 45ft but that’s your call. If you should decide on a Westoe Electric cameo, I can provide links to good photos, loco kits, etc., if that would help. Best, Jason.

    I am sure Mrs Simms can come to your aid if you are a bit lost Tony, and perhaps take you for a fish supper and few Newcastle Brownies. Could you help her get rehoused, so she is able to hand her washing out on the line in the garden, rather than across the street? Then there is the problem with her onions, still loitering lonely somewhere near the field by the branch line. You never know what undesirable types lurk in such places, probably the Green Menace, or perhaps Smokey Joe, with his old tireless push bike, peddling with gusto near the railway at South Shields. I a m sure you must t worry about Mrs Simms onions, and what will become of them. Will they ever make their way to be cooked with beef, and mixed veg, and served up for the Station Master at South Shields?
