- I wanted to get some proper sound clips of the SuperSpring exhaust on my 1998 4 cylinder 1.9L BMW Z3. The guys at AutoCouture in Fairlawn NJ installed the exhaust back in the summer months. I rigged up some cameras and microphones and went for a Sunday morning drive through NYC.
If you're impatient - there's a pull to redline on a highway ramp at 4:55 :)
I didn't add any audio clips so it's just raw driving sounds. For the setup we have a Go Pro hero11 with the media mod, the rode wireless go II microphones with cavalier mics (I'm wearing one, and one is taped to the bumper by the license plate), then two additional go pro angles as well as the Insta360 x3 - the real star of the show.
Next time I will use a different microphone as this gets pretty close to blown out, but this was a great proof of concept. Thanks for watching! Happy beamin'
Dude thanks for taking time out of your day to record this. Looking into buying a z3. And I never been to New York. This video is amazing. 🙏🏼
Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoy the Z like I did 🫡
Guess crime in NYC has cooled off a bit...here in Atlanta I'd be worried someone would just rip that cam gear right off of the car. It's actually quite depressing how bad it's gotten over the last couple of years. Anyway, back to happier topics. The first couple generations of modern BMW roadsters, whatever the motor, are just so much damn fun. Throwback raw driving experience that you can just fling around and put exactly where you want it to go. Had an '03 Z4 w the M54 3.0 (few tweaks, BC coilovers, DIY welded straight-pipe) and even when just running to the market it always brought a smile to my face. Also loved taking early Sunday AM pre-traffic drives. Cheers.
A couple days ago I bought a 1997 Z3 eith 86k for $5,300. It was always properly maintained by BMW and garaged by a retired airline pilot. I live in The Columbia Gorge National Scenic area in the beautiful Pacific North West and am very much looking forward to experiencing it with the top down this spring
If it's a 1.9 16V that's a pretty good price
Such a cool video! Great content!
Love this video, how chill it is. When my own Z3 is in the shop I play this, cheers from Spain mate. Lovely car, and love how you are using it when it's cold too! Everyone tells me "dude convertibles suck you can only use them in summer" and I'm like lmao try one.
Wow- so much fun!!
Lol I’m laughing because I know exactly where you were driving but I’m shocked about the lack of traffic that allowed you to drive 80! Amazing! Looks like so much fun!
WOW Wes, I’m so happy right now…👻
As a fan and owner of a Z3 to and visiting New York City on my bucket list I think you’ve made this vid for me…🤡
I’ve had the same smile on my face watching like you had in te tunnel…😁
I couldn’t understand the back 360 camera witch I’ve never seen before.
I’m glad you explained it to.
But can you move that while driving or was that the go pro what was filming up and turning?
Thanks very much and I wish you all the best, keep up making this unique content, I subscribed.
Greetings from Landgraaf - Netherlands…🤟✌️
ah man thank you for the kind words!
The back 360 camera doesn't move while driving, but it records in all directions at one time. In the editing program you pick what is shown on screen. So after the drive, I can turn the footage around and see forward backward left or right, all back in the edit bay. Its pretty impressive tech for a 500 dollar camera.
Thanks for subscribing! I am going to do a similar raw run with my E34 540i in NYC this spring :)
Cheers from NYC!
Now it is your time to buy a Z3 Coupe..
Ugh that first redline smooch..
What kind of cameras and set up are you using on the trunk? Awesome vid!
Thanks! That's an insta 360 x3 camera. czcams.com/video/WyZVEncMI0E/video.html here's the part of the video where I describe it and you can see how it's mounted.
Supa Swint!!!
Id like to s÷ the 360 cam mounted on the Hood
Was the mic on the bumper? Need the sock thing to block off the wind noise a bit
Yeah, I figured it was out of the way of wind but I can definitely get it to sound better. This does a decent job at representing the actual driving experience, but I’ll get it even better 💪
hey what is the exhaust system you have on, im obsessed with the sound would love to put a nice exhaust on mine, the one you got sounds incredible, let me know. Did you do cat delete?
Hey mate, it’s the super sprint race cat back system. Stock cats still in place.
@@vanheestvisual sounds so good!
I just picked up a little project z3 that's gonna need love
@@streetreadyright on! Such fun cars. I just sold this one but I really really enjoyed the two years I had with it
@@vanheestvisual I couldn't do it!! 😅 at least yet
I live in Brooklyn and I’m strongly considering buying one; what are your suggestions for a new driver with this car in the city? I’ll be commuting only few times during the week within the Borough.
Having such a small car is great for parking, but can feel kind of crazy driving next to bigger trucks. Especially as a new driver I'd say something a little higher up off the ground is probably better. But if that doesn't bother you and BMW maintenance doesn't either - it sure is a ton of fun driving this around NYC
3rd person looks like a videogame like GTA or something Lol
That looks a nice car what’s the fast you been in this ?
Thanks! It’s not a very fast car lol. I’ve probably done 100 or so in it. It only has 144 hp 🤣
@@vanheestvisual yeah I just bought one it needs a slave cylinder so I am going to see what I can do when I get it running.
And careful with the cams...36mph you're getting the ticket hehe
Lol you’re right, gotta know the neighborhood 😉
